01 3034 Grand Ave COCONUT GROVE, MIAMI 25,000 SF ORIGINAL BUILDING: 1925 $5M ESTIMATED RENOVATION COST Working within the limitations of the existing construction and structure, the renovation design intent was an attempt harmonize the fragmented façade (initially a confluence of various styles over time). The proposed parti displays varying control materials, distributed by specific zones but woven together by clear, simple architectural features. The final design will serve as the home for 9 new retail and restaurant tenants in the heart of Coconut Grove’s commercial downtown.

02 3946 N Miami Ave DESIGN DISTRICT, MIAMI 9,765 SF $200K ESTIMATED RENOVATION COST In order to serve as the street presence for two distinct retailers, the facade renovation design incorporates contracting materials. A rich, dark wood plank serves to absorb light and introduce a natural variation, while emphasizing the horizontal nature of the one-story building. The metal frame with wood piers reect the light along the corner tenant while creating a rhythm or merchandise display windows along the busy NW 40th Street.

03 1504 N Fremont Street LINCOLN PARK, CHICAGO 13,520 SF $1.2M ESTIMATED RENOVATION COST This existing one-story bowstring truss building provided an expansive and voluminous interior tenant space. After clearing the complex web of interior demising walls, the building was space planned for 3-4 tenant opportunities. The street facade maintains the “Old Chicago brickwork, but now features projecting canopy above generous new storefront glazing.

04 3351 N Lincoln Avenue LAKEVIEW, CHICAGO 4,873 SF $1.9M NEW CONSTRUCTION COST With the goal of doubling their tenant work space, Reverb, a popular music marketplace for musicians, would connect to a new neighboring building. Ensuring future viability for the developer, the new structure was designed to be a standalone building with its own individual street presence, while matching the floor-to-floor heights of the existing Reverb space. The expansive curtainwall glazing lends well to merchandise windows while also effectively communicating Reverb’s business and goals from the streetscape.

At the core of the COS aesthetic, there are four intrinsic principals: timeless, modern, functional and tactile. Sheerness of local Mies design, the sleek usage of steel proďŹ les, paired with an enormous glass surface were at the core of the design for this new 4-story building on Chicago’s prestigious Oak Street. The clear glass paneling oers visibility to the customers either inside or outside the store, while the frosted glass gives privacy in areas where needed.

07 Early Learning Center MOUNT PROSPECT, ILLINOIS 85,600 SF $18.6M NEW CONSTRUCTION COST As the Early Learning Center caters to children three to five years in age, security is of the utmost importance; however, an inviting, child-friendly space is as well. The entry experience is catered to parents, as well as children, via a kid-height door and colorful accents. At every point along the main corridor, views into each Sensory and Outdoor play space can be viewed. Visitors and students alike can observe the nature-inspired play structures, kid-powered water pumps, harmony circles and seasonal planting beds. Each classroom features the exposed sloped structure, allowing for high clerestory windows along the north facade and warm, inviting natural wood elements, creating a “Nordic” inspired space. The floor space is subdivided for specific learning areas, complete with varying-height sensory materials and color surfaces atop the walls.

08 Hamilton Elementary School MOLINE, ILLINOIS 85,600 SF $17.3M NEW CONSTRUCTION COST Community planning sessions inspired the design of the 600-student school with the pinwheel-like classroom wing, surrounding a technology-rich “Imaginarium” filled with learning activities. The school’s curving forms favor student interaction and versatility. A “Discovery Lab” enables project-based and inquirybased learning, and allows partnerships with nearby organizations. Clear “garage doors” between classrooms will inspire interaction among students and support co-curricular projects by opening to collaborative learning spaces between classrooms as well as into the Imaginarium.

ABOUT ME

Project Manager & Associate

At the College of DuPage, Stephanie’s most significant achievement was the master plan of more than 1-million square feet of department relocations throughout the entire campus, to accommodate construction and renovation projects. Combining her love of obsessive organization, post-it notes and various highlighter colors, the moves spanned 3 years, 20 academic departments, hundreds of faculty and staff and thousands of furniture and equipment pieces. After taking a particular interest in the Schematic Design process, Stephanie collaborated on the addition and renovation of Moline School District 4’s Hamilton Elementary School Addition and Renovation. The workshop process gave Stephanie a chance to talk with her hands while inspiring and encouraging neighbors and community members to voice their opinions to impact and shape the design of the new school. Workshops led to design conversations that challenged convention, creating a whimsical and state-of-the-art facility. With her interest in the way young people learn and experience space, Stephanie jumped at the chance to collaborate with teachers and community members to design the ideal early learning center for 3- to 5-year-olds. The design encompasses all things fun and inviting, while creating opportunities for learning around every corner. As project manager, Stephanie took great pride in balancing design intent and integrity with cost-saving initiatives to preserve learning and experience spaces for kids.
