We know they love it! Playing inside Mom and Dad's bedroom. What a wonder that place usually is for them, right? From Dad's big shoes, to his stylish clothes and belts, to his infamous "too big for their wrist" watches. And let's not forget Mom's things either. They are usually soft, girlie, and sometimes tell a story. From her elegant perfume bottle's, to her beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and sometimes diamonds (if she's lucky!) as well as those big , Sunday church hat's. You gotta love mom and dad's room. And hey, let's face it, it's no secret that this room is fun, cool, exciting and a safe place for everyone, all at the same time (Or at least it should be). So how do we teach our children about privacy, rules, and respect, and boundaries without totally ostracizing them all together? After all, this is the place where everyone
frequently piles up in the bed on a Friday night, or early Saturday morning and sleeps in, watches TV, a movie, or just chills out talking about life. However, as parents, we do sometimes have to set some parameters and/ or rules that are designed simply to protect our personal space, and yes our privacy and sometimes our sanity too. We love our kid's, but you deserve to be able to go to a place that is clean, calm, and peaceful, just for a few moments a day. If the continuous organization and up-to-the -moment cleanliness is a high bar to reach, especially having smaller children, and more than one, believe me, we understand. However, there are some surefire methods that you can implement to keep your sanctuary, and the safe, cuddle and sometimes fun, family zone it can be, still enjoyable for your children and yourselves also.

Teach your children to respect mom and dad while they are resting (obviously not at he same time), or when they ask for privacy in their room or bathroom. 6. Teach your children to knock (especially if they are appropriate age and knowledge wise) before entering a room/door. 7. Teach your children to respect everyone's personal items, their personal space, and or their individual bedroom.

What's Your Name? Teach your child the art of starting a conversation. By S.L. M axw ell-Robles Starting a new job, starting a new to a school, we've all been there, right? And yet, depending on how well your parents or family acclimated you within those type of situations, your overall success could be greatly tied to how you learned to "acquiesce" within those new environments. Continuing with last month's theme of "developing manners" , parents, you hold the vital keys which can ultimately
decided if your child is successful in similar scenarios. Along with knowledge of self, knowledge of history and culture, great self-esteem, and without shame, knowledge of God, Jesus Christ , and the Holy Spirit, if you instill some simple "basics" within your children early on, you are in fact planting the seed for their future success! In addition to "please", "thank you", "excuse me", "how
are you doing", and"your welcome", one of the greatest tools or set of "manners" you can give your child is the art of starting a conversation. Being comfortable with ones self and in your own skin is an asset, period. Having the ability to be the first to break the ice in a new situation, as well as make others feel comfortable or welcome is a gift and priceless. I was told as a child that one of my grandmother 's favorite sayings was "it didn't cost anything to speak to someone". A statement cant get any truer that that. Good communication skills are important, and the first teachings of this actually start at home. Teaching your children basic conversation starters such as "Hi, my name is Jasmine, what's your name?", can potentially set them miles ahead not only in school, but also in life, career, educational and business pursuits, and absolutely in the world!
