" Good St ew ar d" STEWARD By St eph an ie M axw ell-Robles What does it mean to be a Good Steward? Do you know that God expects that of each of us? A good steward is someone that manages their money, time, resources, and life, as well as their skills, giftings, talents, and abilities well.
They are also caretakers, neighbors, and friends who treat their fellow man, as Christians have been commanded, with love. I like to call it, being a Good Steward, the "ultimate" balance checker of life". They are always stepping in and breaking up the "status quo". They stand
out because they render help and, no matter what the world is doing or what the world is going through, they show the love of Christ. Throughout the Bible, there are several instances and specific references made by God and Jesus Christ to ensure that their is balance and order in our lives.
In fact, our Bible tells us that we serve a God of "Decency and order " Corinthians 14:40 (KJV), and that "God is not the author of confusion", 1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV). That last statement alone
is a pure indication of a life full of balance and order. Again, there are several stories, parables, and scripture references that support or cooborate the phrase, expectation, or idea of a "Good Steward". The book of Proverbs, the book Psalms , in fact the entire Bible is the quintessential guide, or "epitome" of, as it relates to the subject matter, of being a Good Steward.
Being a Good Steward is a life long calling for Christians. It is a place and a capacity where we strive to be and live within daily.
And if you are filled with the love of Christ and the Holy Spirit, it makes the journey all the more fulfilling! Following are some Scripture references you can read in regards to Good Stewardship: Tit u s 1:7-9 (KJV) 1 Cor in t h ian s 4:2 Colossian s 3:23 Hebr ew s 13:5 I Tim ot h y 5:8
Happy reading, and God bless you.

COURTESY OF BLACK FAM ILY M AGAZINE
By St eph an ie M axw ell-Robles Father's matter! Black Fat hers matter!! In fact, the entire Family matters...and they always have!!! What I love about God is that he is a God of #1: "Decency and order" (1 Corinthians 14:40 KJV) and #2: He is a provider of implicit, clear and specific instructions! No single person, place or entity can provide as concise, and painstakingly, right down to the most minute drop directions quite like the Lord! With that said, lets discuss a bit of human, as well as Biblical history. The very first institution established by God was Marriage, hence Adam and Eve. The very second was the Family. If you read and study your Bible, there are many examples all throughout the text that clearly express the importance of family, as well as the expectation and role each member will play. FACT: It is imperative that you have an established relationship with both God, your Creator, and Jesus Christ, your Savior. Nevertheless, it is equally important that you know not only who you are, but again, whose you are. Having a relationship, as well as knowledge of God, Jesus Christ and his Biblical instruction, knowledge and direction for your life is paramount! The Bible describes you, your human existence, and the very essence of your life, being, and soul. And ultimately, it provides for you information on how to fulfill God's purpose for your life and your destiny, as well as that of your family. "My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge" Hosea 4:6 (KJV) For the record, I'd be kidding myself, as well as you the reader, if I wrote to you in any manner
less than befitting of not only what my and your heavenly Father would expect me to do, but also in a manner that waters down and negates from the real world's truth's, facts, and issues as we know it. God created you, the father/husband, to be the head of your household and family. "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Savior of the body" Ephesians 5:23 (KJV). Fathers/husbands, you have been given a great responsibility! A great charge! A great leadership role, one comparable to Christ's appointment over the church! You have been given the task to do tremendous, dynamic, awesome and amazing things not only in life, but also through and with, your wife and family! Despite all of life's ups and downs, challenges, trials and tribulations, it is you, the father, who protects, provides, loves, and nurtures. It is you, the father, who possess the long, strong arms to wrap around and keep his family structured, safe, warm, and away from hurt, danger or harm. As the head of your family, you will set the prime example for what is a good father, and good husband and a good leader. And remember, a role that is equatable to Christ's governing over the church means that you conduct yourself in a manner that also reflects that fact! Meaning, Christ would not abuse, leave, hurt, harm , overpower, misrepresent or destroy his church or family. Now, I must also take this opportunity to get to the real root of the matter. According to
scripture, if you are a father, you should also be a Husband, and be that husband first! Yes, that's right, God designed the family in a way for a father to be a husband, first! Here are a few scripture references that cooborate this Godly expectation and commandment: 1. "Flee fornication" 1 Corinthians 6:18 (KJV) 2. "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints" Ephesians 5:3 (KJV) 3. "Marriage ishonorable in all, and the bed undefiled. Hebrews 13:4 (KJV) 4. "Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto hiswife and they shall be one flesh" Genesis 2:24 5. "Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder" Matthew 19: 16 (KJV) 6. "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb ishisreward" Psalms 127:3 (KJV) The first step towards becoming a good father is getting married! Marriage is a holy union and ordained by God and was set forth first, before the children and family came. We will continue this discussion in the next issue.
Tak e Ti m e To Recogn i ze by Stephanie M axw ell-Robles You know, life's to short to be worried and stressed out. Not to mention it's not even Biblical. As a Christian, the word of God, or the Bible gives us a plethora a daily sayings, words of wisdom, and encouragement to live by. When you study and follow the Bible, you don't have to look for sustenance in a world who holds a different value, moral and ethics system all together. When we lean on God, his word, his precepts, his decrees and his promises not only to guide and protect us, but also, at some point, this very same scripture begin to make ridiculously clever sense. Then, when applied to living in a fallen world, as they truly are
instructions on how to survive here from your creator, that's when things start to make sense. Here are some tips and adjoining Scripture verses, on how to live a more enjoyable, relaxing, rewarding, and fulfilling life altogether: 1. Don't Stress Out Or Worry.
"Heavinessin the heart of man maketh it stoop; but a good word maketh it glad" Proverbs 12:25 (KJV "Humble yourselvestherefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for for you" 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV) "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requestsbe made known unto God" Philippians 4:6 (KJV). 2. Know Who Your Source and Provider is. "But my God shall supply all your need according to his richesin glory by Christ Jesus" Philippians" Philippians 4:19 (KJV). 3.
Laughter is the Best Medicine!
"A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of thy heart the spirit is broken" Proverbs 15:3 (KJV). "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones" Proverbs 17:22(KJV)

B er n ar d " Ben n i Hol i da M an n i n g Jr . By St eph an ie M axw ell-Robles I w as fir st intr oduced to "Benni" a few year s ago via social m edia as the husband of a long-tim e, high school fr iend w hom I had r ecently r e-connected w ith. I noticed that they w er e living in Atlanta, Geor gia and appear ed to be doing ver y w ell business w ise, in addition to r aising/m anaging a fam ily together. As tim e w ent by, I w as intr igued by w hat w as his and my old high school fr iend's stor y. They w er e adver tising their tax business, M anning Tax Solutions, and it's four locations! As a budding entr epr eneur and m agazine publisher myself, I thought "Wow ", I don't know m uch about M r. M anning, but Tr anea (my old high school fr iend and also now his w ife) alm ost seem ed to have like a "Rags to Riches" and/or Cinder ella m eets her Pr ince

I w as also inspir ed and led to ask her for an inter view , as I saw the had of God w or king w ith them both. Needless to say again, how ever , as the publisher of both Black Gir l M agazine, and M ecca Black M en's M agazine, after asking Tr anea if I could inter view her and br ing her stor y to life, the next step w as obviously a "no br ainer ". It w as only natur al and appr opr iate that I w ould also r equest an inter view fr om M r. M anning, too. Wow , is all I could say! Not only for you, our r eader s, but also for us! Tw o gr eat cover s, tw o gr eat inter view s, and their m ar r ied! As Chr istian publications', w e celebr ate that fact and it also speaks volum es to us! So w ithout fur ther ado, M r. Ber nar d "Benni Holiday" M anning Jr. Q: Tel l u s you r n am e, a l i t t l e bi t abu t you r sel f , an d h ow you got st ar t ed. A: M y nam e is Ber nar d M anning Jr. Ever ybody know s m e as "Benni". M y backgr ound, pr etty m uch I
w as bor n in New Yor k, Jam aica Queens, New Yor k . Kind of a r ough neighbor hood, if you w ant to call it that. I lived w ith my father at the tim e. M y m other w as in Atlanta [Geor gia], so I m oved out to Atlanta eventually. M y father didn't w ant m e in that envir onm ent. He w as pr etty m uch in the str eets and he didn't w ant the sam e for m e. So I ended up w ith my m other in Atlanta. I w ent to school out her e. I r eally tr ied to stay out of tr ouble and like I w as r eally infatuated w ith my father and ever ything and he had to say to m e and stuff fr om w hen I w as like a little kid. He w ould tell m e stuff like you know , 'stay in school', and 'get a good job', and you know , 'so you don't have to w or k for people', you know stuff like that so it just stuck w ith m e as I cam e up. So I just tr ied to keep a good r ecor d, you know , like I used to hang out w ith a lot of dudes w ho got into tr ouble and I w ould be like, 'no, I'm a stay her e and just w r ite songs and m usic and stuff like that. So m usic kept m e in the house a lot. [Eventually], I got out of high school, I w or ked, I w or ked, I w or ked, that's all I
did. I just w or ked all the tim e and I still did m usic. So that's all it w as. So, I just alw ays had a little bit of a netw or k because of my m usic. W ith my m usic, I didn't r eally m ake m oney at it, but it w as just som ething that I w as into, and it just still built my netw or k, as I w as com ing up. I tr ied to go to school, but I didn't like school because I w asn't m aking any m oney, but school is so expensive. I didn't stick w ith it, I had to jum p out of that, and I just had to go back to w or k . You know , that's all I did. And I w as still like into the entr epr eneur ship about m usic, so I didn't m ake any m oney fr om it, but I still built my netw or k . So it w as kind of like an investm ent if you w ant to call it that. So now I m eet my w ife. I'm pr obably like 24 going on 25, but I m eet her and she's telling m e like she w as doing her ow n business, and I'm younger than her , so it w as like, 'oh w ow ' that's som ething my father w as alw ays telling m e about. So I w as kinda am azed by that. I w as r eally intr igued by that. You know , it w as like a Black business w om an, that's a w onder ful w om an to have by my side, you know w hat I m ean? Like, I w asn't r eally into all the stuff people w er e getting into at my age.
Like, I w as into it, but it w as kinda...it didn't m ake a lot of sense to m e for som e r eason. But um , I w as alw ays intr igued w ith like an older w om an w ho w as sm ar t, w ho I could lear n som ething fr om , and you know , som eone w ho could keep m e going, w hen I'm feeling like you know , I don't w ant to do nothing. Som eone that could push m e to be better. That's w hat I alw ays w anted. So um , she tells m e she's doing taxes and stuff like that, and at the tim e, I w as still doing constr uction. I w as w or king so I w as like, okay, I hear d about your little pr ogr am , so I used my netw or k, once again. She said she w as doing r efer r als. I w anted to see how m any r efer r als I could get to see a cer tain am ount of m oney. I had a plan for tax season. So, I w as just tr ying to get som e extr a m oney up, and ther e w as som ething w ith her hir ing that didn't r eally w or k out w ith her em ployees. So by this tim e, I cam e to her w ith a sheet of paper w ith about 100 r efer r als alr eady, and I said, 'how m uch can I get for this r ight her e?'. So, I guess she seen that and she said, slash that, do you w ant to lear n how to do taxes? Do you w ant
to tr y it? So I'm like sur e. That's how I r eally got into it pr etty m uch and ever y since then I just been tr ying to follow her lead because she got the exper ience w ith it and all that, but I think I'm doing pr etty good, if I say so myself. Q; Pr ai se God, I w ou l d def i n i t el y say so! How h as God sh aped or i n f l u en ced you t h r ou gh ou t you r l i f e? Trudy, was truly, an amazing girl. I don't know what I was thinking the other day when she asked me if I could hold her backpack. I just froze as if I had entered in to another time zone or dimension. She's truly amazing and beautiful. But every time she goes to talk to me, I get all stiff-necked and nervous . I need to do just like my grandfather told me to. He said "Son, women appreciate honesty, and it's the little things that matter most with them. You know, like kindness, showing up on time, and doing what you say your going to do." And, "Just tell her, you can't afford much today, but I'd love to take you out to dinner and get to know you better." Pop's was right! That's all I had to do, was man up. After all, Trudy was the smartest and
and did I mention the most beautiful woman in my Chemical Engineering class. Surely she understood the life of a struggling graduate student and future scientist, inventor, and entrepreneur, I might add, right? She definitely seems like my caliber of woman...so why am I so nervous. Well, I'm going to have to shake it off. There's nothing to fear but fear itself, and I've managed to save enough money for at least Olive Garden, or the Waffle House, if she just wants something simple like breakfast. Either way, I'm "in like Flynn", or it's "now or never". I'm not going to let another semester pass by without expressing my thoughts or feelings towards her. Besides, the Black Scientist's and Engineer' s Club dinner and dance event is in two weeks, and I don't plan on going empty-handed.

" Waver in g t h e St or m " Sometimes, when life gets tough, you must waver the storm. Pull yourself up by the boots straps, anchor down, and then carry on. God knows just how life can be, however, we must know that in Him, we have the victory. Nothing like a harsh, winter's day storm, but guess what?... you somehow continued on. Yes, life can be real, full of pain and all that stuff, but truth be told, you don't really have to handle this, that and such.
