February 3-5, 2017 Music City Center Nashville, Tennessee
Welcome to the 2017 Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville! We are honored to serve as the General Chairmen for such a tremendous event and are proud to present “Cultivated Style.” Our wish list was granted with this year’s line-up of speakers. Headlined by Nate Berkus, it brings together unbelievably talented and nationally recognized designers and garden experts from around the country. Once again, the Show floor will be home to over 150 dealers and four spectacular gardens designed by some of the Southeast’s foremost landscape designers. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our sponsors whose contributions help support our fundraising efforts for Cheekwood and ECON charities. We are thankful to this year’s Presenting Sponsor, ADAC, as well as Andrew Byrd and TVV Capital for their 27 years of continued support. We also want to thank the over 400 volunteers who have worked countless hours to make this show a success. Whether you attend a lecture, stroll the show floor or enjoy one of the fabulous parties, we are so glad you are here. Thank you for coming!

Founding Sponsor Andrew Byrd, TVV Capital How can one find a better way to enjoy a cold winter day than come inside to enjoy the flowers, gardens and beautiful antiques? Spring is just around the corner. In 1987-1988, the President of the Exchange Club (now Economic Club) of Nashville asked me to chair the Nashville Lawn & Garden Show. That year, it became the Nashville Lawn & Garden Fair. Working with the botanical staff at Cheekwood (Dick Page & Randall Lantz) along with Floyd McDonald, and with the Garden Club of Nashville (Betty B. Graham), we put on one of Nashville’s finest shows to educate all Nashvillians on their gardens and landscaping. Later, when the Antiques Show merged into the Nashville Antiques & Garden Show, I headed Logistics for the first 1990 show at the Nashville Convention Center. I have supported the show ever since. As a result, more than a million dollars has been given by the Economic Club Charities to dozens of social service organizations across our city, bettering many people’s lives. Beauty, education and service to our community, how can one better summarize what our show means? Our sponsorship is a very small part of an extraordinary Show helping to build an extraordinary city, Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you for coming!

Brooke & Steve Giannetti will share the special journey they’ve traveled together working on spectacular projects as husband and wife – she the interior designer and he the architect. One of the Giannettis’ most notable collaborations was the creation of their idyllic European-inspired Patina Farm in Ojai, California – the subject of their best-selling book of the same name, Patina Farm. Design Panel Lecture
The Dream Team Saturday, February 4
•
11:00 a.m.
Four of the top designers in the US today will engage the entertaining wit of author and design panel moderator, Robert Leleux. Robert will guide Mary McDonald, Nathan Turner and Jesse Carrier & Mara Miller through a spirited discussion of these stylemakers’ sources of inspiration – where they travel for ideas, the influence of other designers, eras that color their designs and global style hot spots on the rise today. The team will also discuss the role traditional and social media play in their cultivated styles, lives and careers.
Mary McDonald is an award-winning, internationally recognized interior designer based out of Los Angeles. She is the author of best-selling Rizzoli book Mary McDonald Interiors and starred in the Bravo TV series Million Dollar Decorators and Property Envy. Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Bazaar, Town & Country, House Beautiful, New York Magazine, The New York Times and ELLE DECOR as well as many other well-known publications. Her licensed product lines include two acclaimed fabric collections for F. Schumacher & Company, lighting for Robert Abbey, rugs for Patterson, Flynn and Martin and furniture for Chaddock.
Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller, the principals of Carrier and Company Interiors, are a husband-and-wife duo who create rooms featuring a confident mix of timeless and contemporary design. Always refined and sophisticated, lightfilled and airy, the Carriers’ work ranges in style from elegantly traditional, to luxuriously minimalist, to glamorously bohemian. Their newly published book, Carrier and Company: Positively Chic Interiors, offers tours of the private spaces of highly influential tastemakers in the fields of fashion and media, featuring the homes of Anna Wintour, editor-inchief of Vogue; Jay Fielden, editor-in-chief of Esquire; fashion designer Jason Wu; and photographer Annie Leibovitz, among others. Named to the prestigious Architectural Digest AD 100 and ELLE DECOR’s A-List, the Carriers’ work has also been featured in Vogue, Town & Country, House Beautiful, Oprah and World Of Interiors.
18
Nathan Turner’s passion for world travel and his intimate familiarity with the design heritage of his home state of California have informed his aesthetic. Whether inspiration comes in the form of his unique take on English/ Bohemian style or from his trips to favorite destinations like Istanbul and Mexico City, Nathan’s diverse life experiences give his work a distinctive cultural layering that is at once global in scope and highly personal to each client. Nathan’s designs, parties and products have been featured in major national and regional publications, including Architectural Digest, ELLE DECOR, Vogue, VERANDA, Domino, Vogue Living, Town & Country, House Beautiful, Details, Food & Wine, and C magazine. In 2012, Abrams published Nathan’s popular lifestyle book, Nathan Turner’s American Style. Nathan has also starred in Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators, is a regular entertaining expert on The Today Show, and has appeared on Extra, The Early Show on CBS, TBS’s Movie and a Makeover, Good Day LA and Good Day NY. In 2008 “Nathan Turner for Elite Leather” was launched and can be found in Bloomingdale’s stores across the country.
Design Panel Moderator Robert Leleux is the author of two books, The Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy and The Living End. He was the managing editor of Lonny and the editor of domino. His rich, insightful and often humorous essays and articles have appeared in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine and The Huffington Post. Robert is also the founder of the famed Southern Style Now Festival & Showhouse and author of a new book of the same name, Southern Style Now: Bold Interiors from the New South, forthcoming this year. The book explores regional design and features the work of talented newcomers considered by Robert to be the “class acts of Southern design.”
Purchase books from the Design Panel speakers and have them signed after the lecture. Books are available for purchase in the Show Floor lobby and outside Karl F. Dean Grand Ballroom before and after the lecture. A portion of book sales proceeds go to Show beneficiaries!

Upcoming at Cheekwood Historic Initiatives - Restoring Cheekwood Opening June 17, 2017 Although the idea of Cheekwood likely brewed in the minds of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, Sr. for many years, construction of the expansive estate began in 1929 and was completed in 1932. Surrounded by a beautifully planned landscape, the four levels of the Cheekwood mansion were adorned with fine, antique furnishings that complimented the historic aesthetic architect Bryant Fleming achieved with the Georgian-style designed structure. Nearly 85 years after the Cheek family moved into their home, Cheekwood will bring the original vision of Mabel, Leslie and Bryant back to life with the Historic Initiative Refurnishing project. Debuting in June 2017, the Ground and First Floor of Cheekwood will feature several spaces that have been diligently researched, scientifically analyzed, and physically reproduced to reflect the original, 1930s design intent. To achieve this great undertaking, numerous original objects were returned to Cheekwood, including carved and gilt wall sconces, multi-generational family portraits, and intimate heirlooms—to name a few. Items that no longer exist were specifically sourced as near-duplicates of the original furnishings or commissioned as identical pieces. For example, the original 16th-century Flemish-inspired tapestry that cascaded the Ground Floor Entrance Hall, based on a painting by David Teniers the Younger (1610-90), could not be located, resulting in Cheekwood commissioning an identical tapestry reproduction, matching the original composition, subject matter, and dimensions. Paint analysis and exploratory architectural work have also taken place. The revitalized Cheekwood will be revealed to the public in conjunction with Cheekwood’s summer 2017 exhibit, the highly-acclaimed Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times, featuring costumes from the acclaimed drama Downton Abbey®. Through the bedecked rooms and bedazzled costumes, visitors will transcend to a bygone era, experiencing early-20th century style in its many forms. The refurnishing of the Cheek Mansion has been made possible by The AWC Family Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Andrews, and the Founding Members of The 1929 Club. Dressing Downton is co-presented by First Tennessee Bank and GSRM Law.

Where We Came From The ECON draws its history and tradition from the Exchange Club of Nashville. One of the largest clubs of the national organization, the Nashville Chapter was chartered on April 16, 1920, to support the national mission: “Exchange, America’s Premier Service Club, working to make our communities better places to live.” This mission resonates with members of the new club, which continues many of the existing initiatives.
Moving Forward ECON will continue in its support of The Family Center as well as provide generous support to many charities in Nashville. In 2014, the ECON formed the Cultural Assistance Program (CAP) to provide opportunities for children and their families to participate in Nashville’s cultural and arts programs. Since 1991, the ECON and Cheekwood have co-sponsored the annual Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville. This show has become the Club’s main fundraising activity, allowing ECON Charities, Inc., to contribute more than $1.5 million to local charities.
A History of Service The Club has been instrumental in helping make Nashville the great city that it is today. The list of achievements in its early years includes: • Widening Church Street west of the viaduct and the extension of Ninth Avenue from Church Street to Union Station, without cost to the city of Nashville; • The increase of parking facilities at Union Station; • The beautification of Memorial Park opposite the state Capitol; • The first overall street marking program in Nashville; • Building children’s playgrounds at the Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital; • Equipping the Vanderbilt band with its first uniforms; • Sponsoring the first successful fundraising campaign for the American Red Cross conducted in Nashville; and • Providing support for the public development of Cheekwood in 1960, transforming the private residence into a public garden and art museum. Today, the Club participates in programs to support NeedLink Nashville (formerly known as Big Brothers of Nashville), The Salvation Army, Cheekwood and The Family Center.

Ryan Gainey was a beloved participant, advisor and mentor to the Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville for nearly 25 years. As an extraordinary exhibitor, a consistent supporter, a member of our National Advisory Board, and a three-time show lecturer, Ryan capitivated audiences each and every time he spoke. In 2010, Ryan masterfully constructed one of the most breathtaking Entry Garden centerpieces the Show has ever seen, dedicating it to the memory of his gardening friend and mentor, Rosemary Verney. Ryan was as creative and flamboyant with his attire as he was with his exceptional craft. After being introduced to him by Nashville Garden Club and A&G Show devotee Jane Sloan, a Show guest turned to her and said, “Who was that masked man?! Ryan Gainey was a unique talent, a man treasured by all of us here at the Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville. We will miss him.
Beneficiaries Now celebrating our 27th year, the Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville has raised nearly $7 million for Cheekwood and ECON charities.
Cheekwood Cheekwood is Nashville’s beloved 1930’s-era 55-acre estate, Botanical Garden and Museum of Art. Awarded the honor of “Top 10 Best Public Gardens” in the USA Today Reader’s Choice Awards, Cheekwood brings art, education and horticulture to hundreds of thousands of visitors, families and school children every year.
ECON The Economic Club of Nashville (ECON) is a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds for more than 20 important charities focused on children and families in the Nashville area. ECON also provides a dynamic forum for community leaders to discuss economic, social and political issues of special interest to our region.
Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville Mission The Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville is an annual charity event whose purpose is to raise funds for Cheekwood and ECON, by exhibiting the highest quality antiques, landscaped gardens and horticultural items and by offering a related educational outreach program.
