Welcome to THE 29 TH ANNUAL

ANTIQUES AND GARDEN SHOW OF NASHVILLE! We are honored to serve as the general chairmen for such an iconic event. As the Show has grown over the past 29 years, it has become far more national and even international in scope, but our roots are still in the South. This year’s theme, A Passion for Home, reminds us of that as our Keynote Speaker Faith Hill is a hometown superstar with a passion for home. Together with her longtime architect Bobby McAlpine, and designer Ray Booth, she will share that passion with us. Our entire speaker lineup also reflects a passion, whether for a home in upstate New York, for a dinner party in the Delta or for collections curated over a lifetime. Our 150 dealers may hail from across the country, but they all share a quintessentially Southern passion for fine things. In our four spectacular gardens, some of the South’s foremost landscape designers will share their interpretations of home. We are grateful for the generosity of our corporate sponsors, benefactors and friends, without whom the Show, and its fundraising efforts on behalf of Cheekwood and ECON Charities, would not be possible. We thank this year’s Presenting Sponsor ADAC for their enduring collaboration, as well as Andrew Byrd and TVV Capital for their 29 years of continued support. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the many, many volunteers who have worked countless hours to make the Show a success. Sadly, we lost one of those volunteers earlier this year when Jane Sloan, a visionary friend of the Show since the beginning, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. We have missed her wise counsel and good humor this year, but feel lucky to have known her. Jane’s love of all things floral has inspired the Flower Wall, dedicated to her memory on the Show floor this year. We hope you will stop for a moment to have your photo taken by the wall, and that you will enjoy the color and warmth we hope the Show brings you during this winter season! We are delighted you are here!

How can one find a better way to enjoy a cold winter day than come inside to enjoy the flowers, gardens and beautiful antiques? Spring is just around the corner. In 1987-1988, the President of the Exchange Club (now Economic Club) of Nashville asked me to chair the Nashville Lawn & Garden Show. That year, it became the Nashville Lawn & Garden Fair. Working with the botanical staff at Cheekwood (Dick Page & Randall Lantz) along with Floyd McDonald, and with the Garden Club of Nashville (Betty B. Graham), we put on one of Nashville’s finest shows to educate all Nashvillians on their gardens and landscaping. Later, when the Antiques Show merged into the Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville, I headed Logistics for the first 1990 show at the Nashville Convention Center. I have supported the show ever since. As a result, more than a million dollars has been given by the Economic Club Charities to dozens of social service organizations across our city, bettering many people’s lives. Beauty, education and service to our community, how can one better summarize what our show means? Our sponsorship is a very small part of an extraordinary Show helping to build an extraordinary city, Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you for coming!

Jane Sloan

Our most treasured blessings often come from those who have touched our lives – most assuredly the Antiques and Garden Show was blessed by Jane Sloan. Since the inaugural Show in 1991 when Jane’s role was to scout out and secure the best garden and horticultural dealers in the country, her insight and vision were instrumental in building the Show’s nationally acclaimed reputation. In 1993, she chaired the Show and from then until her untimely death last April, she continued in an invaluable “hands on” advisory capacity. Nancy Deaton, succeeding Jane as Garden Chairman says, “Jane was the ultimate mentor.” Her insight, knowledge, bright sense of humor and contacts in the flower and design communities have been inspiring to all incoming chairmen. It is difficult to imagine A&G without her presence, but memories of her love of flowers, gardens, beauty and her laughter remind us of just how much she touched our lives.

KEYNOTE LECTURE

Designing, Building and Living in Paradise Friday, February 1 • 11:00 a.m. Grammy-winning superstar Faith Hill, alongside interior designer Ray Booth and architect Bobby McAlpine, will bring the tropics to Music City with a cultivated discussion on the design and construction of Faith and husband Tim McGraw’s Bahamian island home and the serenity of living in a private paradise. Leslie Newsom Rascoe, MILIEU’s design director, will lead the conversation highlighting the collaboration between architect, designer and client, as well as the planning process and special challenges posed by the island project. Faith, Ray and Bobby will also share the inspiration behind the design of the several other homes they have built together, including Faith and Tim’s family home in Nashville and other houses that are more than 100 years old.

Faith Hill is one of the top-selling and mostawarded female artists of all time with five Grammys, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, four American Music Awards and four People’s Choice Awards. She has consistently broken chart records with her No. 1 singles and has had major crossover success with the hits “This Kiss,” “Breathe,” “The Way You Love Me,” “Cry” and “There You’ll Be.” She has had multiple albums top both the Billboard Hot 100 and Country charts simultaneously and, with only seven original studio albums, has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. She has had three network TV specials that garnered top ratings and has appeared and performed on every major award show, including twice on the prestigious Academy Awards. In 2000, Faith performed the national anthem to a global audience of over 88.5 million viewers at Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta and is the only country artist and one of only three artists ever to perform both “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America” at Super Bowls. Faith, along with her husband Tim McGraw, released their first-ever joint album––“The Rest of Our Life”––in November of 2017, and it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Faith and Tim just wrapped up their latest installment of the award-winning Soul2Soul franchise, Soul2Soul The World Tour 2018. Faith is one of the executive producers of the Emmy nominated “Pickler & Ben,” daytime’s “go-to” destination for the best in lifestyle and entertainment television, which entered its second season on September 17, 2018.

Ray Booth is a celebrated designer and is a partner in the prestigious McALPINE firm. He has received national recognition from Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, VERANDA, and MILIEU showcasing his work on their covers. Ray divides his time between McALPINE’s Nashville office and its expanded New York office, which allows him to keep one foot in the city and the other in his native South. In 2018, Ray released his bestselling book, Evocative Interiors to much acclaim. This year, Ray will launch his Ray Booth Design furniture line with Hickory Chair and home accessories collection with Arteriors. Bobby McAlpine is an architect that envisions home as a timeless, graceful and emotionally evocative place. His successful architecture and interior design firm McALPINE has offices in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and New York to provide high-end design on projects ranging from residences and restaurants to private chapels and follies in a public park. Bobby’s critically acclaimed book The Home Within Us quickly became and remains a Rizzoli bestseller. His much-heralded book Poetry of Place was released in October 2017.

M O D E R ATO R Leslie Newsom Rascoe helped launch Veranda magazine with her mother, Lisa Newsom, Veranda’s founder and longtime editor-in-chief. Leslie held various editorial positions including fine arts and decoration editor. Four years ago, Leslie assumed the role of interiors editor of MILIEU magazine. Daigh Rick Landscape Architects

We’re storytellers and landscape architects. At first glance, those things may seem unrelated, but once you understand who we are and how we work, you’ll see they’re one and the same. We tell stories with every landscape we create. The stories we tell aren’t ours, though. They’re the stories of our clients—the homeowners, the property holders, the ones who’ll live, work, play, and relax in the outdoor experiences we bring to life. daighrick.com Anne Daigh, Principal and Founder Anne Daigh is our founder and Storyteller-in-Chief. She’s an accomplished landscape architect, artist, and entrepreneur whose passion for her profession naturally grew into the successful business she leads today. She launched our company in fall 2010 after nine years with Page Duke Landscape Architects. The job with PDLA brought her to Nashville after graduating from UGA’s landscape architecture program. Though a Georgia native, she quickly set roots in Nashville, bringing her love of art, architecture, and the environment to exhibitions at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, the Nashville Antiques & Garden Show, and residences and commercial properties throughout the city and beyond. She’s the heartbeat of our company, and her approachable style and design sensibilities are present in each project we take on for our clients. Wade Rick, Principal and Partner In our business, collaboration and communication are key. That makes Wade Rick an invaluable leader on our team. He’s an expert you can talk to- just as at ease chatting with a client as he is conferring with a contractor or designer. His giftedness in planning and guiding the building process may be a reflection of his early interest in architecture (his first course of study at Mississippi State before deciding on landscape architecture), as well as his experience working for a developer right out of college. With more than a decade in the field, he’s honed his knowledge and the range of skills our business requires. Today, this Nashville native uses his experience to help shape the landscapes and outdoor spaces of the city that he and his young family call home. Natural Creations, LLC was formed in 1998 by Matt Dawson and John Henderson. After graduating from the Ornamental Horticulture school at the University of Tennessee, they decided to take their knowledge to middle Tennessee and start a full service landscape company. The company as a whole focuses on educating its employees to provide the best of services and to create a healthy work environment. The goal of Natural Creations has been and will always be to create and maintain some of the most beautiful landscapes in the middle Tennessee area. naturalcreationsllc.com 29

Cheekwood Estate & Gardens Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, Cheekwood is considered one of the finest American Country Place Era Estates in the nation today. Once the family home of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, this extraordinary 1930s estate, with its Georgian mansion and 55 acres of cultivated gardens and expansive vistas, today serves the public as a botanic garden, historic home and art museum.

February 1 – March 3, 2019

Orchids in the Mansion Large palms, tropical foliage and hundreds of colorful orchids will occupy the historic Mansion’s Loggia as well as additional historic spaces.

Cheekwood in Bloom There’s no place more beautiful than Cheekwood in the spring as more than 150,000 blooming bulbs spill from our gardens creating a color experience you won’t forget.

Enrich your Antiques & Garden Show experience with a visit to Cheekwood, Nashville’s own national treasure. Present your Antiques & Garden Show ticket for half-price admission to Cheekwood through March 3, 2019.

Cheekwood features refurnished rooms to showcase the original design, tastes and interests of Mabel and Leslie Cheek and their collaboration with architect Bryant Fleming, who also created Cheekwood’s landscape and interiors. The Mansion Library (pictured above) is a wood-paneled room lined with leather-bound books. At one time Mabel’s library collection totaled approximately 2,000 books, covering subjects such as philosophy, art, history, travel and the classics.

Sponsoring the Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville Since 1991

Who We Are The Economic Club of Nashville (ECON) provides a dynamic forum at weekly lunch meetings for business and community leaders to identify and discuss economic, social or political issues of special interest to Nashvillians. Members seek to interact with business leaders and government officials and support key nonprofit organizations that contribute to the quality of life in the Greater Nashville area.

Where We Came From ECON draws its history and tradition from the Exchange Club of Nashville. One of the largest clubs of the national organization, the Nashville Chapter was chartered on April 16, 1920, to support the national mission: “Exchange, America’s Premier Service Club, working to make our communities better places to live.” This mission resonates with members of the new club, which continues many of the existing initiatives.

Moving Forward

ECON will continue in its support of The Family Center as well as provide generous support to many charities in Nashville. In 2014, ECON formed the Cultural Assistance Program (CAP) to provide opportunities for children and their families to participate in Nashville’s cultural and arts programs. Since 1991, ECON and Cheekwood have co-sponsored the annual Antiques & Garden Show of Nashville. This show has become the Club’s main fundraising activity, allowing ECON Charities, Inc., to contribute more than $1.5 million to local charities.

A History of Service ECON has been instrumental in helping make Nashville the great city that it is today. The list of achievements in its early years includes: • Widening Church Street west of the viaduct and the extension of Ninth Avenue from Church Street to Union Station, without cost to the city of Nashville; • The increase of parking facilities at Union Station; • The beautification of Memorial Park opposite the state Capitol; • The first overall street marking program in Nashville; • Building children’s playgrounds at the Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital; • Equipping the Vanderbilt band with its first uniforms; • Sponsoring the first successful fundraising campaign for the American Red Cross conducted in Nashville; • Providing support for the public development of Cheekwood in 1960, transforming the private residence into a public garden and art museum. Today, ECON participates in programs to support NeedLink Nashville (formerly known as Big Brothers of Nashville), The Salvation Army, Cheekwood and The Family Center.
