Dates to Remember National Diaper Need Awareness Week September 28th - October 3rd - Join EBC as we support this initiative of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) created to mobilize efforts to help make a difference in the lives of the nearly 5.3 million babies in the U.S. who live in poor or low-income families. Diaper Need Awareness Twitter Party October 1st ● 1-2pm (PT) - During National Diaper Need Awareness Week take to Twitter to show your support for diaper need awareness. We’ll be discussing the impact of diaper need on children & how you can help. Follow along using the hashtag #diaperneed.

Salmon Days Parade ● October 3rd ● 10am - We want you for the EBC Stroller Brigade! Help kick of this year’s Salmon Day’s festival and help the city of Issaquah celebrate the annual return of the salmon to their birth waters.

September 28th to October 3rd is National Diaper Need Awareness Week

Did you know? • 1 in 3 families struggle with diaper need. • 5.3 million babies and toddlers under the age of 3 live in poor and low income families. • In the state of Washington, 21 percent of the poor are under the age of three. • Government safety-net programs do not recognize diapers as a basic need. • Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps, and are classified with cigarettes, alcohol and pet food as disallowed purchases.

• Diaper need impacts the physical, mental and economic wellbeing of children and parents. • Most child care centers require parents to provide a day’s supply of disposable diapers (four to six changes during the day) • Many parents cannot go to work or school if they can’t leave their babies at child care. • Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, at a cost of $70 to $80 per month per baby
