OUR PHILOSOPHY ........................................................................................ 3

HERE AT EDELWEISS WE ALL ARE VERY DIVERSE, YET ONE THING WE ALL HAVE IN COMMON: MOUNTAINS ARE OUR HOME AND TRAVELLING IS OUR PASSION. BUT WHEN WE SET OUT TO EXPLORE THE WORLD, WE WANT TO EXPERIENCE MORE THAN JUST NEW TERRITORIES.

OUR HISTORY ............................................................................................... 4 WHY EDELWEISS? ........................................................................................ 6

We want to immerse ourselves deeply within each country’s culture, get to know and understand it. We want to meet people and hear their heartfelt stories. We want the scent of nature to guide us to a country’s hidden treasure. We want to explore and experience the country by being active on the road. This not only sharpens our senses but also benefits our health. We want to stop in beautiful and serene places to create an unforgettable memory in our minds and not just in our smartphones. It is important to us to be as non-invasive as possible, yet show others just how beautiful our planet is. And how many gifts there are to be received.

THIS IS EDELWEISS OUR HISTORY

Explore the world in a gentle and calm way – feel the difference

WHO WE WERE. WHO WE ARE. A LIFE-TIME DREAM BECOMES REALITY In 1980, Coral and Werner Wachter decided to turn their hobby into a profession and founded the company Edelweiss Bike Travel. Their goal was to explore the world’s most beautiful places by motorbike in company of like-minded explorers from all over the world.

Fall in love with cities you have never seen and people you have never met. THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR ROOTS Edelweiss’s headquarters is located in Tyrol. With that the company has remained true to its roots and is still a family-owned business. It now employs 23 people in their headquarters and more than 50 Tour guides. All of whom are absolute experts in their field and do everything they can to offer their customers an unforgettable experience every day. Our tours are compiled by travel specialists who know every road, forest and hiking trail of any particular region. The routes are carefully and extensively tested. We don’t leave anything to chance as we plan your tour. Except for the weather, which we cannot influence just yet!

OPEN FOR NEW ADVENTURES Today, 38 years later, we explored more than 80 countries with over 40,000 guests from all around the world. However, this is not the end but the beginning of new ideas. In 2015 Coral and Werner decided to expand upon their well-loved motorbike adventures by adding E-Bike trips to their product range. This decision is based on Edelweiss’s philosophy and desire to truly connect people to nature and culture of each particular country, in addition to explore every corner of our beautiful planet. Biking offers many advantages in this regard and is a lot of fun.

E-BIKE IS ... More than just being active

Life for the moments you can’t put in words.

OF ALL THINGS – WHY E-BIKES? WHY WE USE THEM AND HOW THEY WORK. We can all imagine that traveling by bike allows us to discover and explore foreign countries and cultures first-hand and to enjoy nature in its fullness. But why do we travel per E-Bike? And how does an E-Bike actually work? Anyone who has ever tried an E-Bike knows the feeling of ridding uphill with ease and grace, whilst smiling at the surrounding nature and people. It has never been as easy and as much fun to go by bike, as you do not have to break into sweat reaching your goals. The primary focus of any E-Bike tour is the healthy and enjoyable physical activity without overly exerting yourself! This motivates, is fun and allows the cyclists to actively relax during their holiday, as well as enjoying the surrounding environment and impressions. The E-Bike (Pedal Electric Cycle) has an electric motor that supports the driver when pedaling, assuming of course the cyclist is actually pedaling. However, it does not matter how much or

More than just riding a bicycle 10

how little he is pedaling. The electric motor forms an additional support that allows the traveler to reach a speed of up to 15,5 mph without exertion. You can define the support of the engine by using the switch on the handlebars. Anyone looking for a physical challenge on their vacation can keep the support to a minimum or even disable it. If, on the other hand, you want to enjoy your holiday without a lot of effort, do not hesitate to put the engine on full power. Any climb, no matter how big or small, will then become a breeze. Differences in the group’s performance are thus compensated and the trip becomes a successful holiday for young and old.

Being active without sweating

As with our routes, we leave nothing to chance with our bicycles. We trust in the premium E-Bikes manufactured by Riese & Müller. The unique feel these bikes offer originates in the highest German engineering style. With Riese & Müller Nevo E-Bikes cycling becomes pure enjoyment and you will realize that the way truly is the goal. Convince yourself on one of our E-Bike tours in Europe.

A fun and diverse trip for everybody! 11

9 DAYS VACATION 7 DAY RIDING ROUTE DAY

ARRIVAL IN OSLO Please arrive at the hotel before 4pm for our get-together.

DAY

OSLO – BØ [about 39 mi] We escape the traffic of the capital by train and start our exploration. Kongsberg is first on our list. It is a place of fortune and money, where the kingdom’s hard money is coined. It is also a place rich with silver mines, at least so it was in the past. As we journey further to the east of Telemark, we arrive in Notodden. Here we are awaited by Heddal Stavkirke, which according to the legend was built by Troll Finn in 3 days.

DAY

BØ – VRÅDAL [about 43 mi] Our journey through the Telemark region begins: high mountains, fertile valleys with secluded villages, coniferous and birch forests, lakes, rivers and waterfalls will keep us awestruck. Far beyond the boundaries of the Telemark this region is well-known for its increadible ski resorts.

VRÅDAL – DALEN [about 27 mi] As we journey even further into the remoteness of Telemark, we are surrounded by a wild and surreal looking landscape. A magnificent backdrop for the Stave church of Eidsborg. It is not visited by many tourists, but a real hidden treasure. DALEN – HAUKELI [about 35 mi] We now continue our journey through a very romantic and scenic valley, passing by pristine lakes with snow-capped mountains and glaciers as a backdrop. This is where many of the well-known winter sport resorts are located.

6

HAUKELI – RØLDAL [about 35 mi] Røldal is known for 2 very different reasons. Firstly, it is the rather unimpressive Stave church of Røldal, which was built in the 13th century. The legend says that pilgrims used to travel all the way to this church to receive blessings and healing from the sweat of Jesus Christ, miraculously appearing every night on the crucifix’s forehead. Of course science discovered that it was not sacred sweat but simply condensation. Nevertheless, blessings are still to be received from this place. Røldal is also known and loved for its very tasty and unique goat’s cheese. We invite you to explore the Røldal dairy farm.

RØLDAL – ROSENDAL [about 43 mi] From Røldal we continue our journey per bike. With our E-Bikes it is easy to cycle up the road towards Odda. Turn by turn, altogether 16, we will cycle up to the summit where we are met with the most monumental views over the Norwegian countryside. Right in front of us we see the ice masses of the Folgefonn glacier. This is also the direction we are headed. A shuttle bus will carry us safely underneath the glacier to Kvinnherad. Kvinnherad is a peninsula featuring steep fjords, scenic meadows and gushing waterfalls. Here are the largest stag swirls in the country. ROSENDAL – BERGEN [about 25 mi] We are nearing the end of our adventure. As we travel towards Bergen it seems as though time has stopped a long time ago. Picturesque and colourful little villages fill the sideways of the road we travel. As our view glides into the distance we are stunned by the beauty of the mighty Norwegian mountains. One of the many attractions of this area is the smallest castle of Scandinavia, the„Baronie Rosendal“. The castle is nestled in a large Park designed according to strict Renaissance regulations. The perfect place to relax after a day’s cycling. DEPARTURE FROM BERGEN We will be happy to take you to the nearest train station or airport. We wish you a pleasant journey home.

ACCOMMODATION After a day’s cycling you can expect to relax in a wonderful accommodation. We have chosen charming, hand-selected hotels and guesthouses with high comfort and luxury level.

ROUTES All our routes are extensively tested by our Tour guides. We have installed a GPS device on each of our rental bicycles. Should you prefer to explore on your own, you can do so in safety. There are no limits to your adventure.

EATING & DRINKING Just like accommodations, food is very important and always locally sourced on our tours. Breakfast and selected dinners are included. Beverages are excluded, as preferences vary widely.

LUGGAGE During the tour your luggage will be transported in the accompanying vehicle. We can transport one piece of luggage per person. In your daily luggage, which is attached to your bike, is sufficient space for your camera, burse and rain gear. And of course there is still some remaining space for any gifts and items you may purchase.

TOUR GUIDES A German and English speaking tour guide will not only show you the way, but offer insights into the local culture. They will be available anytime to answer your questions and offer support. Another Tour guide is in charge of the accompanying vehicle overseeing the transport your luggage, spare parts as well as water supplies and snacks.

TRANSPORT There are occasional situations where we cannot or do not want to ride. In this instance we will transport you and your bike to the next suitable location, where we can continue our exploration in nature.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE Arrival at the initial meeting point (hotel) is to be no later than 3 pm. All our hotels are located in close proximity to the nearest airport or train station, allowing for easy access. At the end of the trip, we will take you to the nearest train station or airport, enabling you to continue your adventure or travel home in comfort and safety. BICYCLE Of course you can bring your own bike. But please be aware that we only carry spare parts and batteries for our own bicycles. In case of using your own bike you need to arrange for a replacement battery yourself, as this is a necessity for the comfort and safety of our trips. Our E-Bikes are fully equipped so you do not have to worry about anything. At the start of our trip our Tour guides will help you find the optimal seating position on your rental bike. BICYCLE HELMET To ensure that you do not have to carry a burdensome helmet with you, we will provide you with one on the first day for the entire tour.
