By presenting all OIE programs within a consistently identifiable ID system, greater recognition of the breadth and depth of OIE’s offerings should accrue, paving the way for program expansion when the economy improves or partnership opportunities arise.

Pacific Program

The costs for 2010 are pending budget and study abroad committee approval (please keep in mind that fees will be subject to any increase in costs from our current vendors), but 2009 information is listed below as a tentative guide:

Course Offerings

Info on 2009 Program Fees: The program fee for 2009 was $7995*. Items included in this fee were: • Housing for the duration of the program • Partial meal plan (including breakfast most weekdays and some dinners) • Ground transportation in Australia and New Zealand • Insurance (medical, evacuation, repatriation) • The cost of class-affiliated excursions unless otherwise stated in course syllabi (Students are usually able to use their scholarships or financial aid for study abroad, including the program fee)

Destinations

Info on 2009 Airline Tickets: To accommodate students wishing to use frequent flyer miles, buddy passes or alternate departure dates at the end of the program, we did not include airline tickets in the price of the program fee for 2009.

Pacific 2010 is a 12-13 credit hour program. Although students traditionally have taken 6 credits in New Zealand and then 6 credits in Australia, for the second year in a row, we will offer one course, BIOL 1520, which will run for 12 weeks.

Students who register for this course (it is not required) will take 2 other courses for one of the 6 week sessions (NZ or Australia) and 1 other course for the remaining 6 week session. Students will be taking at least 6 hours in each location, and will receive at least 12 hours total for the program, regardless of the combination.

Classes will meet Monday through Thursday for 90 minutes each. Course times may be altered in order to augment lectures with field excursions. New Zealand | January 9th through February 19th While in New Zealand, our group will reside at the Wier House, a dormitory facility of Victoria University of Wellington. The city of Wellington is located on the southern tip of the North Island and serves as New Zealand’s capitol. The University sits atop the city on a high ridge and offers breathtaking views of the cityscape and Wellington harbor.

Destinations

Transportation to the South Island is available via the local airport or ferry terminal. The surrounding area boasts diverse offerings ranging from seal colonies to wine country.

New Zealand is roughly the size of Colorado and has a population nearly equal to that of the Atlanta metro area.

In addition, almost a third of the country is set aside for conservation. These factors taken together begin to give one a sense of the large open spaces to be found in this verdant nation.

Australia | February 19th through April 7th We will be visiting several of Australia’s spectacular locations during our program this year, including Heron Island for a week (more details on the way!). Each location has something unique to offer regarding the program’s academic purposes.

Our first visit will be to what is arguably Australia’s best known city, Sydney. Next we will move north to Brisbane, a beautiful city with a subtropical climate. While in Brisbane, we will head to Heron Island for a week at their Research Station--located right on the beach.

Classes will be held Monday through Thursday in Australia as they were in New Zealand.

PACIFIC PROGRAM 2010

The Pacific program offers students a truly unique learning opportunity. Participants will spend six weeks in New Zealand and another six in Australia. You will take four classes, attend lectures, visit sites of cultural and historical importance and learn about the places and people you come in contact with on the other side of the world.

• Students could not miss any program activities upon arrival to or departure from program locations. Any delays counted as unexcused absences from the program (students had to keep this in mind when flying standby)

PHYSICS Can I go abroad while pursuing a Georgia Tech degree?

Georgia Tech students have many opportunities to participate in semester/exchange and study abroad programs. All Tech programs offer credit that students use toward their graduation and count as credit in residence.

Students may also choose from other GT Programs abroad offering coursework in other subjects for elective credit. Complete information on all GT programs abroad can be accessed on the web.

Students interested in a non-GT program should contact OIE for more information on the regulations for pursuing programs not sponsored by Georgia Tech.

Most Tech programs charge in-state tuition + $250 for out-of-state students for each term abroad. This is a savings of over $8000 for out-of-state students who participate in Tech study abroad programs/exchanges as full-time students!

In most cases, if students are eligible for financial aid, loans, or scholarships (including HOPE), these can be applied toward the expenses associated with participating in these Tech programs.

Program-specific flyer templates

Programs such as the International Plan have previously created flyer templates or preprinted stationery pages to use when creating flyers. These should be redesigned to fit into the OIE ID System. An example of a redesigned format is shown at right.

Typically, only minimal changes are necessary to bring most existing items into the system.

Undergraduate Tuition Waivers for Spring Semester 2010 Undergraduate international students in F-1 or J-1 status enrolled at Georgia Institute of Technology are invited to apply for the non-resident tuition waiver for the summer semester.

Eligibility Requirements: Enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student in the semester (Fall/Spring) for which the application is made.

Applicant must have been enrolled full-time in their current F-1/J-1 status for two consecutive semesters at Georgia Tech.

Eligibility for the out of state tuition waiver is based on extreme financial need based on emergency or unforeseen circumstances.

Minimum 3.0 cumulative Georgia Tech GPA. Active involvement in student organizations, community service, or volunteer activities while a Georgia Tech.

If awarded the tuition waiver, you must be enrolled full-time in the spring semester. Applicatio can be picked up at the front desk of OIE or you may download from the web site: http://www.oie.gatech.edu/isss/forms/tuition_waiver_undergrad.pdf.

OIE ID System and the Georgia Tech logo The OIE ID System is always treated as a secondary identifier to the Georgia Tech logo.

The OIE graphic should never be directly combined with the Georgia Tech logo.

ÂŤ E-mail headers Zimbra does not make it easy to include a graphical e-mail header. However, if the opportunity presents itself to include an e-mail header, it is suggested that a 600-pixel-wide version of the appropriate program Web header be used. This will promote consistency, especially since so many program e-mails will contain links back to the Web site.
