Robert and Susan, an affluent Southern Californian couple torn by tragedy, are further afflicted by a visit from Susan’s estranged and strange brother. As the sun sets on the couple’s ocean front home, the fractured family is caught in the shadows of guilt and insecurity. Pacific is a wise and witty look at the nature of responsibility that falls to an unsettling conclusion.

Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye is a story about the tragic life of a young black girl in 1940’s Ohio. Eleven year-old Pecola Breedlove wants nothing more than to be loved by her family and schoolmates. Instead, she faces constant ridicule and abuse. Blaming her dark skin, she prays for blue eyes, sure that love will follow. With rich language and bold vision, this story examines the standards of beauty, a young girl’s coming of age and the devastating events she endures.

Esther, an African-American woman living in the dawn of the last century, makes an uncommon living for herself sewing exquisite lingerie. Her skilled artistry allows her rare access into the private lives of others. This revealing new American drama is the winner of five national awards for Best Play, including the prestigious New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award. Dates Previews: January 13 – 22 Opening: January 23, 6 p.m. Runs through March 13 Performance Times Tue – Sun, 7:30 p.m. Wed matinees, 2 p.m. Sat & Sun matinees, 3:00 p.m.

The visionary director of The Berlin Circle and The Time of Your Life completely transforms the confines of the Upstairs Theatre to stage a new translation of Chekhov’s funny, sensual classic about moving forward in changing times. Tina Landau and her design team put the audience in the room with the legendary characters of Madame Ranevskaya’s estate.
