The Callisto SDI/analogue switcher range
Callisto-R: technical specifications
Callisto is a broadcast specification (SMPTE-259M) 270 Mbit video switcher with DSK and optional chroma keyer designed for studio, edit suite and transmission applications. Callisto can handle fully asynchronous (unlocked) inputs in a mixed signal format (SDI and analogue) environment.
Rack-mount 8-input with Callisto-C RS-422 linked remote panel
Callisto-R Specifications The programme and preview outputs are available as both SDI and analogue composite with 10-bit processing throughout. There are two SDI auxiliary switched outputs for monitoring and routing, and switchers fitted with the composite input option also have a separate composite monitoring output. The incoming sources can be asynchronous as Callisto features dual channel framestore synchronisers. The switcher will operate in stand-alone mode, or may be genlocked to an external reference. A line store (minimum delay) mode is also available via the set-up menu. Operationally, Callisto works in conventional programme/preview bus mode. Installed functions include manual and auto wipe (multiple patterns with normal/reverse, colour border and soft edge), manual and auto dissolve, and auto fade to black. A new feature is the Hot-Cut function, which allows the operator to make cuts directly on the programme bus without the freezeframe commonly associated with asynchronous switchers. Callisto is dual standard 525/625 and offers 4:3 or 16:9 (letterbox) blanking. In conjunction with the Callisto-C control panel, the extensive menus allow the user to tailor the operational modes to suit individual requirements. An internal TSG provides EBU bars and other test signals, and source ident can be inserted. Callisto also features a DSK with fully synchronising SDI inputs for external 'Key' and 'Fill' and a “clean feed” (pre-DSK) programme output. A chroma keyer is also available as an option. Optional analogue composite decoders allow signal acquisition in mixed format environments (SDI digital and analogue) without compromising any of the unit’s other features. This allows the switcher to be used efficiently in today's transitional environment while retaining the necessary specifications and features for the all-digital world of tomorrow. The shift function allows the user to switch formats on any input channel between transitions. Callisto can be controlled via industry standard editor protocols GVG-100 and GVG-M2100, and has a full complement of assignable (take/ftb/source select) GPI functions and GPI high-current output drivers.

...SDI synchroniser Dual SDI frame synchronisers in 1RU with input format options • Low cost, high specification and feature rich • Analogue and digital input options for flexible signal acquisition • SDI and analogue composite outputs • Intelligent switch to eliminate disturbances in dual path applications • Proc Amp and internal TSG • Embedded audio synchroniser and processing options • Industry standard control interface for automation Neptune comprises two fully independent SDI framestore synchronisers in a 1RU chassis. In addition to the standard 10 bit SDI inputs, a range of other analogue and digital input formats is available as options to allow flexible signal acquisition. Outputs are SDI and composite analogue (monitoring) as standard. The unit can be user configured as two fully independent channels or as an intelligent switch that selects the ‘best’ input according to user selected criteria. In dual (redundant) path applications, the dual frame architecture enables a disturbance-free transition from a failing signal to a good signal. There are comprehensive local controls for signal levels and timing adjustments as well as an industry standard control interface for remote and automation applications. Embedded audio synchronisers and level adjustments are available as an option in addition to the standard ‘transparent’ audio processing features. The unit can operate as a stand alone or genlocked to station reference. There are also internal test signal and source ident insertion facilities. This low cost, compact and flexible dual channel synchroniser is designed for use in a wide range of studio, edit suite, OB and transmission environments, and is available at a very competitive price.

Many people prefer to log their rushes after the shoot, but you have to be absolutely sure that the machine you use isn’t going to damage the source tapes. The alternative is to dub to VHS and use these tapes as logging material. However, this can be a time-consuming and inaccurate business, since domestic VHS machines have no RS-422 interface, and hence no transport control. V-Log is designed to provide a simple and efficient way of controlling a VHS machine while you’re logging. Using Phoenix Log software, you can then create your own edit lists by simulating RS-422 control of a VHS machine via the infrared control port. All VHS transport functions are available, including search-to-cue, and V-Log is able to control a wide range of VHS models. Phoenix Log can export the results of your logging sessions to any current EDL format, thus reducing your digitising time and your costs, and a single V-Log/Phoenix combination allows you to replace a broadcast player with a VHS machine. V-Log is supplied complete with universal power supply and a full cable set for immediate connection. How does it work? Just ask for a demonstration!
