EVDirac Pro ENCODER / DECODER
EVDirac Pro Encoders / Decoder 3G / Dual-Link / 2 x 1.5G SDI over 1.5G SDI using Dirac Pro Multi-standard HD-SDI (1.5Gbit/s) can comfortably be carried over an SDI (270Mbit/s) link. Alternatively, 3Gbit/s HD-SDI can be compressed to a 1.5Gbit/s HD-SDI link with very little delay. This means that signals such as 1080P60, stereoscopic 3D production, Digital Cinema or other new formats can be transported over an existing studio infrastructure. The EVDirac Pro allows the transport of a 3G, Dual-Link or two HD-SDI sources using a single HD-SDI link. The encoded output is fully compliant with SMPTE 292M and is viewable using an HD-SDI input monitor for confidence checking. The EVDirac Pro uses the Dirac Core Set supplied by Westwood Rock Ltd compliant with the BBC-developed Dirac Pro compression system. Quality As you would expect of the BBC, quality has been key to the development of Dirac technology. VC-2 Video conversion Video compression over SDI to SMPTE 2042 and SMPTE 2047 Low Delay – only a few lines of latency Uniquely, in the low latency profile a compression factor of 8 times can be achieved with only a few lines of delay. This means that multi-standard HD-SDI (1.5Gbit/s) can comfortably be carried over an SDI (270Mbit/s) link. Alternatively, 3Gbit/s HD-SDI can be compressed to a 1.5Gbit/s HD-SDI link with very little delay and, again, in a small hardware form factor. Of course this means that signals such as 1080P60, stereoscopic 3D production, Digital Cinema or other new formats can be transported over an existing studio infrastructure. Visible picture information over a compressed link: Yet another unique feature is that a real time low-level picture is visible on a standard monitor over the “compressed” SDI link. Low power, low cost The core set supplied by Westwood Rock is the smallest video codec and has been designed to fit into FPGA vendors’ cost-effective families enabling the EVDirac Pro to be a very cost effective solution.

The EV2041-HD is a four input stand alone HD/SD routing matrix housed in a self contained small 180 x 190 x 40mm box. The standard unit comes with four Looping inputs, dual outputs and a local control panel. There is an optional RS232C control module available if required. The EV2041-HD has been designed to full SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 344M and SMPTE 259M specifications, and switches in the vertical interval but will switch immediately if no reference signal is present. This unit employs automatic sample rate detection on the input equalizers allowing a mixture of HD / SD signals in the same unit. Front panel LED’s indicate signal presence and control activity.

Multiple Standard Waveform Monitor The EV4181-HD has been specifically designed as a no compromise waveform monitor, catering for HD & SD, digital & analogue signals. The EV4181-HD is very easy to operate with clear indication of the selected functions. SPECIFICATIONS: DISPLAY: CRT: 10 x 8cm flat faced, P3 (GH) phosphor, accelerating potential 12KV Display controls: Intensity, Focus, Scale illuminations and Trace alignment on front panel. Astigmatism set internally. Display modes: A, B or C selected: Each channel individually displayed at timebase sweep selected. ABC selected (Line or Field): Sweep speed 1: ABC superimposed Sweep speed 2: AB parade Sweep speed 3 ABC parade. Bowtie: Channels A minus B and A minus C displayed for relative timing and amplitude checks. GBR: Converts Y, Pb, Pr signals from (either SDI input or when Y is connected to input A, Pb to input B and Pr to input C) to RGB form using a matrix. Vector (component vector or colour difference) display formed from B signal horizontally and C signal vertically. INTERNAL ILLMINATED GRATICULE: Dual scaling: 0 to 100% in 10% increments and –43 to +110 IRE units in 10 unit increments. 2%/2 IRE subdivisions around the 100 lines assist in amplitude assessment. The graticule has scaling for both 700mV and 525mV signals, together with their half-amplitude references. This simplifies operation with 75% and 100% saturation colour bar test signals. Similarly the vector scaling includes dual reference points.
SIGNAL CONNECTIONS: SDI (SMPTE 259M – SMPTE 292M (270MHz – 1.485GHz) 2 x SDI inputs (SD or HD). 1 x re-clocked SDI output. 1 set SD Y,Pb,Pr converter outputs from SD-SDI in. 1 set HD Y,Pb,Pr converter outputs from HD-SDI in. RGB output. Analogue inputs: Y,Pb,Pr on inputs A, B & C. 75 Ohm BNC sockets allow loopthrough connections to A, B & C. 1 x External reference input BNC allowing loop-through connection. Optional HDMI output from SDI input. Equalization for 270MHz SD-SDI to 300 Meters (Belden 8281). Equalization for 1.485GHz HD-SDI to 100 Meters (Belden 8281). Return loss better than 40dB. Crosstalk >54dB to 60MHz. SYNCHRONISATION: Front panel switch allows selection of an internal or external source. Internal sync from displayed A channel. External reference requires a tri-level sync for HD. SWEEP RATES: Vertical: 3, 2, 1 fields. Horizontal: 3, 2, 1 lines. Two-position magnifier: x 5 increases 1 line sweep rate to 1us/div. x 50 increases 1 line sweep rate to 100ns/div. Accuracy+/- 3% over 8 divisions. DC RESTORER: Each input individually restored. Offset of B and C signals is front panel selectable to set the baseline levels of colour difference signals as required.
Black level changes <1% for 10% to 90% APL variation. 50Hz attenuation <10%. VERTICAL AMPLIFIER: Sensitivity: 1V video signal gives 100% (140 IRE) display. Increased to 200mV full-scale using x 5 gain switch. Frequency response: Component input – Flat filter: 25Hz to 30MHz +1%/-3% SD-SDI input – Flat filter: Y response +/- 0.15dB to 5.75MHz. Chroma response +/- 0.3dB to 3MHz. HD-SDI input – Flat filter: Y response +/- 0.5dB to 30MHz. Chroma response +/- 0.5dB to 13.5MHz. Signal to noise -72dB Transient response: <2% overshoot on 1T pulse (100ns h.a.d) Sin2 pulse LF tilt <1% on 50Hz square wave. LP filter: Low pass filter similar to IEEE standard 205. LIN filter: Bandpass amplifier centred on 500kHz gives 1.5us h.a.d spikes from staircase test waveform for line time non-linearity checks. RGB Waveform Display
