Abeel, David: For 20 years, David Abeel has been crafting and teaching Windsor furniture in his free time, which provides a great escape from his day job managing and fundraising for various nonprofit causes, most recently Benzie Area Christian Neighbors. David offers classes at the Home Shop of John Wilson Oval Shaker Box Maker in Charlotte, Michigan, as well as chair making classes in Northern Michigan. Abdo, Grainger Lorrie: Lorrie is colorful -- at least her artwork is! Whether she is printing monotypes with a Gelli-Plate, creating dimensional handmade paper artwork or painting with paste for surface design and collage pieces, she is motivated first by color. Texture is a close second. Working with her chosen materials and found objects she creates compositions with movement, dimension and excitement. Lorrie is the Administrative Director at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center and an instructor frequently teaching papermaking, bookbinding, paste painting, surface design, collage and mixed media workshops. Lorrie is detailed in her instruction and fun with her delivery. She is a member of the Handmade Paper Guild, Signature Artists Cooperative and Southwest Michigan Printmakers. Anton-Coburn, Debra: Debra Coburn graduated from Kendall School of Art & Design and went on to open her own awardwinning graphic design company, which she ran for ten years. During that time, she enjoyed teaching on weekends, which lead to her pursuing teaching certification through Central Michigan University, followed by a Master’s degree. She spent 15 years teaching art at Traverse City Area Public Schools K-12. A new inspiration occurred about 10 years ago when Debra went out to Portland, Oregon, and learned about glass fusing. She proceeded to attend workshops North Carolina, Upstate New York and Florida to fine tune her glass fusing skills. Eventually, she decided to leave a full-time teaching position to branch out on her own as a glass fusion teacher and artist. Her work as an artist keeps her creative fires lit and empowers Debra to show her work at art galleries and at art festivals, while teaching gives her the opportunity to watch the awe and wonder of students seeking a new medium of expression. Brunger, Steve: Steve has 15 years’ experience making jewelry with petoskey and beach glass. He works in art shows from March to December and belongs to two farmer market organizations. His state business license is called Point Betsie Creations and he is from East Lansing, Michigan. David, Douglas: Douglas David has painted his way across the country, capturing the beauty and spirit of the things he loves-tranquil country landscapes; sunrises and sunsets on his favorite beaches; a simple pitcher of spring lilacs or peonies; a lemon, lime or a slice of watermelon on a checked tablecloth. Paintings that reflect comfort, warmth, meaning and simplicity reflect everything important to him--his close-knit family, lifelong friendships, creatively fulfilling work, and giving his best. A recipient of numerous regional and national awards and honors, Douglas’ teaching is a way of giving back and sharing some of his journey with those who choose to study with him. Gianola, Ron: Ron was born in Detroit in 1950, drew from an early age, attended Detroit’s premier magnet Cass Technical High School and the Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, later known as Center for Creative Studies, studying Industrial Design, Drawing, and Painting, and worked throughout the state as an artist and designer. “I grew up in the working-class manufacturing cyclone of 1950's Detroit. Painting called me as a mythic vocation embodying the essential mystery and spiritual beauty of nature and the human psyche. My paintings are the result of my over fifty-year long experience with the Art Spirit, pursuing the possibilities of a personal transformative vision, engaging emotion, expression, and the poetry of visual music. Rather than depict the specific, I work in a more personal, poetic manner using a harmony of forms from observed, created, and remembered sources in their own beautiful color universe. I paint with enough content that the mind and imagination are pleased and with enough literal image that the eye is also satisfied. Hamp, Leslie: Leslie leads immersion workshops that blend the visual journaling and soulful exploration. She is a Master Coach, Journal to the Self Instructor and author of Create the Life you Crave and its companion Beautiful Journal. In her free time you will find her immersed in art journaling, audio storytelling, and crafting her own standup paddleboard. Hayes, Eleonara: “I have been painting and drawing since childhood. In Europe I learned how to draw and paint like the old masters. In USA I was introduced to the contemporary methods and theory. Thus earning my MFA in painting and drawing. My works have been shown in museums, colleges, universities and galleries. In my works I am juxtaposing the realistic and the dreamlike, integrating contrasting criteria: objective and subjective expression. Living in Northern Michigan for about 12 years drew me into the beauty and serenity of the surroundings. I am mostly painting special places where I find peace. I am showing this through the materials and techniques of art what I feel and how important nature is to me. I also have been teaching art classes for kids and adults for 20 years in various organizations: CMU, MMCC, Midland Art Center, Crooked Tree Art Center and College for Kids, TCAPS.” Hunnel, Mike: “I am a retired Engineer living the split life of 6 months in Beulah and 6 months in Fort Myers Fl. My career as an engineer has always been my job but cooking is my passion and strangely there is a connection between the two. They both are creative and both require a good deal of planning to get the optimum results. Growing up, my mother, who was a fine southern cook, took notice of my apparent interest in how the evening meals were put together. Over time she soon had me helping her and I began to learn many of the basics of cooking. At times the opportunity arose to take a cooking class while abroad, what a treat. It was at this time I began to get more serious about cooking and how I could learn more. Although not a formal Chef, I probably by now have 100 hours of Culinary class time behind me with many classes taken from fine chefs at schools such as Northern Michigan College and Schoolcraft College.” Kindy, Cedar: Janet ”Cedar” Kindy has been painting for over 30 years. She is passionate about watercolor and changing its bad rap about being a difficult medium. Using her teaching format, anyone can paint a successful watercolor. A graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago, she has studied with master watercolorists Irving Shapiro, Nita Engles, Alvaro Castagnet, and painted with Gorden MacKenzie. Her watercolor, “Jersey Dunes”, was a finalist in the Artists’ Magazine 2015 Annual Competition. See her work at www.cedarkindy.com. Kline, Steve: Steve made a name for himself as an artist in Louisiana making monumental sculptures for public and commercial spaces. His works can be found at Armstrong Park in New Orleans, Tulane University, a public playground in New Orleans, and other locations. He and his family relocated to Northern Michigan and he manages OAC’s ceramics studio in addition to working in his home studio. Kovan, Jessica: Jessica is a mixed media artist and educator. Her art is characterized as thoughtful, conceptual and layered. Working in acrylic, watercolor, mixed media and collage, she creates layers, colors, patterns and texture that help convey emotions and personal stories. Jessica believes art is an individual journey and creativity should be personal, playful, and insightful. With a PhD in adult education, and as an Artist Educator for Golden Acrylics and as a Silver Brush Educator, Jessica combines her love for painting with her love for teach-
