Bull and Female Sale
1 p.m. • Saturday
March 25, 2017 Strafford, Missouri
Welcome to our 3rd Annual Bull & Female Sale! We are very excited about this set of cattle and I think you will be too as you study this catalog. We are especially looking forward to sale day, March 25, 2017 and hope you will join us for our low-pressure, family-oriented event right on the farm. All our bulls are born and raised in Missouri on fescue! Our unique environment of humidity, heat, dry spells, and fescue toxicity means that if these cattle can make it here, I believe they can make it anywhere. e bulls are grown out on rugged terrain to keep them athletic and in condition to go to work. We have cataloged the bulls by sire groups and I like the consistency we have to offer within those groups. If you are looking for larger-framed or more moderate purebred bulls that have built-in calving ease and growth, you will find plenty to choose from. Our Red SimAngus and Red Angus Composite bulls are designed to offer the benefits of Red Angus with a touch of heterosis. Red Angus influenced cattle are highly sought after for many reasons: docility, fertility, carcass quality, maternal traits, and performance. We are offering some younger purebred Cow/Calf Pairs as well as a large group of commercial heifers. We are confident that this female offering is as good as you will find and you will be beyond pleased with your investment in these industry-leading genetics. As a family, God has truly blessed us with His mercy and grace, with great friends, and wonderful land to farm. We are so thankful that we have the opportunity to welcome you to our farm and help you reach your goals with the genetics we are offering. Please don’t hesitate to call if you have question. Videos of the bulls are online via our website. We look forward to seeing you on March 25th! Steven, Jamie, Eli & Ethan Rogers Jim & Jan Lile

What a powerful, larger-framed bull to lead off our sale. A grandson of the cow-maker Mulberry (and the only bull to have an annual sale dedicated to his offspring) and out of a powerful cow that boasts a 101.6 MPPA. This stud is designed to sire powerful, fast-growing calves and excellent daughters. Check out his breed leading WW & YW and don't miss his HPG, Yield Grade and RibEye EPD's. If you need a taller bull to settle cows Lot 1 is a great place to start.

Andras New Direction R240 Sire of Lot 2
Herd Bull Alert!! Chainbreaker represents a lot of what we are trying to accomplish with our herd. Phenotypically he is deep, heavy muscled with lots of rib shape and moderate in stature. Performance wise he is the #1 WW bull with breed leading WW & YW EPD's. Genetically he combines legendary impact sires Andras New Direction R240 and Brown JYJ Redemption - bringing calving-ease, growth, maternal, and carcass traits that few can rival! We believe we owe it to cattleman to produce this kind. He is out of a first-calf heifer that posted a 105 MPPA on Missouri Fescue! A quick note about the HerdBuilder Index (see page 18 for more). When I planned this mating back in April of 2015, the projected CED was 11 and the the projected STAY was 15 – both would have been in the Top10% and would have greatly increased his HerdBuilder Index. Due to the lack of data the RAAA has access to at this time on his sire, the current EPD's are 8 CED and 7 STAY. Just imagine what his EPD's and HerdBuilder Index will be like once we have all the data! I trust that data will be included soon. Either way, CHAINBREAKER is an exceptional bull and we are thrilled to offer him. Retaining 50% semen interest as we want to use him in our herd.

Power! This stud is hard to miss with his depth, muscle mass, base width, a soggy look. He is a larger framed bull and walks on big bone with big feet. His pedigree stacks generations of individuals that have made both the Red Angus and Black Angus breeds what they are today: Cherokee Canyon, Norseman King, King Rob, BJR JR 107, Mytty In Focus and Morgan's Direction. While I don't get to see every calf born, I did get to watch this guy enter the world – talk about an easy birth! I know he has a bigger birth weight, but his 6-year old dam had no problems as he was shaped correctly. She boasts a 103 MPPA and a 359 day calving interval on her first 5 calves. If you need to add pounds at weaning, true muscle mass, and want heifers that will make great cows DOBBS is the way to go! He is the bull on the front of the catalog!
Andras New Direction A080 We are pleased to offer the influence of Andras New Direction R240 and our herdsire Andras New Direction A080. A080 was the second son of R240 to ever sell, and we are thrilled that he walks our pastures. He is stamping his calves with frame, growth, and capacity.

Another example of what we are trying to accomplish by combining the calving ease and moderate frame of P707 with the power and maternal strength of New Direction. Raised by a first calf heifer who was the first to calve from her contemporary group this spring, you know there is fertility and cow-power built in. This bull is already attracting attention and is bound to catch your eye on sale day.

Wow! If you need an age-advanced, meat wagon to get out and breed some cows check out this stud. He is a grandson of Fritz JUSTICE (see Lots 9-12) and out of a beautiful, deep sided cow. He is big footed, heavy muscled and athletic. I was thrilled when Zach wanted to include this guy in the sale and I think he really showcases what his bulls in Lots 27-29 can grow into. Imagine what he could do to help you put pounds on the scale at sale time!

This next pair of Siouxland calves are powerful and would make a great pair. This one has some white on his face and is big boned and thick. His dam is a sister to Lot 10 - another example of powerful cow family that consistently produces quality calves. This kind of quality Red SimAngus are hard to find, but we are striving to provide what our customers have asked for and I think we hit a homerun with these guys.

Commercial Females Group A – Commercial Red Angus Open Heifers Consigned by Lile Farms
8 -12 head of Commercial Red Angus heifers sired by New Direction A080 and LSF RAB AUGUSTUS. These heifers are right from the heart of our herd and most have 1/4 Gelbvieh in them. Born between February 8 and March 27, 2016. They are calfhood vaccinated, will have all pre-breeding shots, and have been grown on haylage and 4#/day of Cattle Charge. They are designed to be easy calvers with excellent udders. Detailed data on heifers will be available online and on sale day.
Group B – Commercial Red Angus Open Heifers Consigned by Rogers Ranch
6-8 head of Commercial Red SimAngus and Red Angus heifers. An outstanding set of replacements that are managed second to none! These heifers should weigh 750#-plus and are right out of the keeper pen at Princeton - we just can't keep them all. They are Feb/March heifers and many will be sired by DJF RED SIOUXLAND. I think their brothers in the sale will get you excited! Calfhood vaccinated and will have all their pre-breeding shots.
Group C – Commercial Red Angus Open Heifers Consigned by Condon's Triple C
6-8 head of Commercial Red Angus sired heifers. Condon's have been using our bulls for the past 5 years and they select bulls for calving ease, maternal strength and low-maintenance. These heifers are March/April 2016 and will be an excellent set of cows. They also will have all their pre-breeding shots. An excellent opportunity to get the industry's MOST favored replacements - Go Red. Right. Now.

Herd Builder Index (Adapted with permission from Andras Stock Farm, November 2016)
Just one example is an Angus sire that ranks #1 for daughters reported, with over 10,000 daughters on record. He is the Angus breed's #4 Pathfinder sire, and has the second-highest daughter qualification rate in the top 20 Angus sires, according to ABS Global. This particular sire's Stayability EPD is a -1 in the current RAAA EPD run. How can this be?
The Red Angus Association of America has always prided itself in providing the most accurate EPDs possible. However, we now find that there are enough problem areas for us, to not include the HerdBuilder (HB) Index our EPD profile. This is a tough decision for us, as we have several cattle that excel in HerdBuilder and we do note that in footnotes. The basis for the HerdBuilder Index is STAY, HPG, CED, CEM, ADG, mature weight, Marbling, YG, and feed intake. Some causes for our concern with in the HB Index are: (1) The calculations are calculated for progeny that are 75% Red Angus, 25% Simmental...not 100% Red Angus. Some of the most important maternal functions, we depend on Simmental to bring (i.e. Milk production). (2) Feed intake calculation is an arbitrary figure. RAAA is only starting to collect and implement actual feed intake data. (3) (and most critical) CEM, CED, and STAY – which are all crucial in formulating the HB Index – are most problematic for us. The most affected group are those cattle that have Angus genetics (the foundation of our breed) in their pedigree. The RAAA is no longer able to obtain the necessary data (from the Canadian Angus Association sending down their black Angus animals) to properly evaluate the progeny of many high-use Angus sires, as we did just a couple of years ago.
According to Colorado State University, the RAAA can no longer obtain or use approximately 90% of this bull's calving ease observations or approximately 90% of his birth records (This information, in its entirety, was available and utilized in RA calculations just two years ago). This sudden data loss caused this particular bull's birth deviations to be 3 times worse than they originally were. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case for high accuracy Angus sires. This poses a major problem, as we see it, for the HB Index. It would be logical to conclude that if some sires' HB Index is wrong – due to loss of necessary data – then the HB Index for all sires must likewise be incorrect. The Red Angus Association of America has acknowledged this data loss and is diligently working to rectify the situation. Obviously, our desire is to see a full correction come quickly. Until then, we have decided to leave the HB Index out of our EPD profiles. We will keep our focus fixed, because we are dedicated to providing our customers with the very best, established, and proven genetics to keep your profitability our top priority.
