Industrial product design

“PERFECTION IS ACHIEVED NOT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO ADD, BUT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO TAKE AWAY.”

Hi! I’m an Industrial Product designer who loves working on projects that support humanities, animals, travel , industrial design, interior design and everything in between. I see myself as someone who not only creates products but also creates experiences and positive emotions. My process is a mix of experimenting, researching, sketching and prototyping. I love learning new things and expanding my skills. And I also love brewing beer, music and chocolate. Thank you for your attention!

PROBLEM.

“Young children are hard on sunglasses. They usually break at the hinges or they often lose them.”

Luxotica alone produces over 500 million sunglasses a year.

Because of the mixed materials sunglasses are very hard to recycle so most of them end on landfills. “The average lifespan is usually 1 season and then they get thrown away.”

“I believe that too many designers have lost the ability to realize that projects are ultimately for people not the company.”

After conducting several of these analyses for different products, I discovered a possible opportunity in the range of low-budget design cat scratching furniture.

“Most companies don’t realize that people read words and sentences, not letters. So most companies think they are designing letters.

KINEKO: MINIMALIST CAT SCRATCHER

NOVEMBER 2016 JUNE 2017 The aim of the project was to develop a product for the Designnest crowfunding platform. This project consisted of 2 parts, each having their own focus. The first part revolved around innovation of a product , while the second one focused heavily on the production of a product.

PROBLEM. A reoccurring problem is the main focus on the cat without taking into account the environment and interior of the user. The small selection of products that do factor in the user have a steep price tag to along with it. It’s the reason why the market of low-budget cat scratching furniture is totally overlooked, even though the demand is there. To top it off, I noticed during my research that environmentally friendly production is totally being overlooked. Most of the current products on the market break after a short while, leaving them having to be completely discarded off instead of being repaired of partially replaced.

USER TESTS CAT TESTS. To test whether the product is to the liking of cats, I contacted a local cat café. Their resident cats were very intrigued by the design. The owners of the café were also enthusiastic about the product.

COMPONENTS. KINEKO consists of two main components: one reusable base plat and one scratching pad. The scratching pad is available in different materials and colors.

User hangs the base plate on the wall.

User uses one of the scratching pad materials that come with the product

When the pad is damaged it can be replaced with a new one.

PROBLEM DEFINITION . IDEA GENERATION . IDEA SELECTION . IDEA COMMUNICATION

FINAL CONCEPT KINEKO is a scratching tile system you can hang anywhere around the house. Due to the unique assembly system, it doesn’t leave any unwanted residue when removed and no tools are necessary for installation. The scratching pad in the base system can easily be replaced by a new pad without using any additional tools.

DOTT HEARING PROTECTION: ONE SIZE FITS ALL.

NOVEMBER 2017MAY 2018 The goal of the group assignment was to develop a new product for festivals. Stage 1 was coming up with a concept as an individual assignment. Very early on after comprehensive research I made the decision to work on a product to prevent festival hearing disabilities on festival goers. Stage 2 was setting up your own student company and getting the product ready for manufacturing. I was in charge for the branding, communication with manufacturers, material research, technical documentation aswell as leading and motivating the team.

PROBLEM DEFINITION . IDEA GENERATION . IDEA SELECTION . IDEA COMMUNICATION

DISCOVERY. My first step consisted of comphrensive research about hearing disabilities and asking questions to festival goers through a survey.

“I also got tinittus in the right ear. It sucks! I won’t go to a show without earplugs at this point and i am a bit more selective about shows now too just because of it. “

37% Buys their own hearing protection

33% Of the festival goers leave the festival early

75% of Belgian youth do not go to festival because of the loud music

Step 4: Insert the earplug into your ear. If the plastic still feels too hot, remove the earplug from your ears and let it cool a little longer. Mak e as little facial expressions as possible and mold the earplug in your earcup. Mak e sure you get a complete seal. If you didn’t and the plastic isn’t moldable an ymore, put it back in hot water and repeat the previous steps

Step 6 : Put one of the filters inside of the one of the silicone ring. Repeat the previous steps with the remaining earplug and pair of filter.

.

Step 7 : Before you proceed with this step, ensure that both earplugs have dried and are no longer wet. Insert the silicone ring with the filter from the previous step inside one of the earplugs. Now repeat this step for the remaining pair. Now you’ve succesfully made your own custom made earplugs. Enjo y the music with your DO TT’ s.
