“PERFECTION IS ACHIEVED NOT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING MORE TO ADD, BUT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO TAKE AWAY.”
Hi! I’m an Industrial Product designer who loves working on projects that support humanities, animals, travel , industrial design, interior design and everything in between. I see myself as someone who not only creates products but also creates experiences and positive emotions. My process is a mix of experimenting, researching, sketching and prototyping. PRODUCT INNOVATION AND PRODUCTION.
NOVEMBER 2016 JUNE 2017 The aim of the project was to develop a product for the Designnest crowfunding platform. This project consisted of 2 parts, each having their own focus. The first part revolved around innovation of a product , while the second one focused heavily on the production of a product.

The first step consisted of undertaking a market analysis to map out the different product already available. After conducting several of these analyses for different products, I discovered a possible opportunity in the range of low-budget design cat scratching furniture. design
PROBLEM DEFINITION . IDEA GENERATION . IDEA SELECTION . IDEA COMMUNICATION
PROBLEM. A reoccurring problem is the main focus on the cat without taking into account the environment and interior of the user. The small selection of products that do factor in the user have a steep price tag to along with it. It’s the reason why the market of low-budget cat scratching furniture is totally overlooked, even though the demand is there. To top it off, I noticed during my research that environmentally friendly production is totally being overlooked. Most of the current products on the market break after a short while, leaving them having to be completely discarded off instead of being repaired of partially replaced.

I also started to focus more on flat surfaces.

USER TESTS CAT TESTS. To test whether the product is to the liking of cats, I contacted a local cat café. Their resident cats were very intrigued by the design. The owners of the café were also enthusiastic about the product.
ASSEMBLY TEST Testing the applied velcro for the scratching insert as well as the assembly strips for adherence to the wall.
MATERIAL TESTS DIFFERENT SCRATCH SURFACES. Testing which materials feel most natural and instinctive for cats to scratch.

FINAL CONCEPT KINEKO is a scratching tile system you can hang anywhere around the house. Due to the unique assembly system, it doesn’t leave any unwanted residue when removed and no tools are necessary for installation. The scratching pad in the base system can easily be replaced by a new pad without using any additional tools.

“I believe that too many designers have lost the ability to realize that projects are ultimately for people not the company.”
“Most companies don’t realize that people read words and sentences, not letters. So most companies think they are designing letters.
