Puerto Rican Portraits Photographs by Todd Smith

In March of 2010, my wife, Debbie and I took a brief trip to Rincon, Puerto Rico to visit an old friend, and to enjoy the area for a few days. On our way home, we spent a day in Old San Juan to experience being tourists and to do what tourists do - eat, shop and take a few pictures. Rincon is an old hippie enclave. Geographically situated on Puerto Rico’s west coast where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Atlantic Ocean, Rincon was ‘discovered’ to be a surfer’s paradise by Californians back in the 60’s. But my experience as a photographer had very little to do with that culture. My ‘goal’, as always, was simply to be in the moment and to respond via camera to what I saw as photoworthy. The following is an album of images taken during our time there. Todd Smith Asheville, NC‑ 2016
