Series - Introduction TO MOVE INDEPENDENTLY THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS “With all the due distinctions and the necessary attention to the specificity of the individual cases, we feel that the product can target those who are affected by spinal cord disease or injury, paraplegias, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or by muscular pathologies such as muscular dystrophy, and those who find it difficult to perform activities that require lifting such as the elderly”. “Tecnologie per l’Autonomia” (Technology for Autonomy) Specialization course (Cattolica University in Milan and Don Gnocchi Foundation) 1999-2000 Academic Year. Essay by Carlo Marchesini
The aid is suitable for users who are 140 to 200 cm tall. STANDING UP:
The user is helped by the tray, the trunk support and the side handles throughout the standing up sequence. These aids support the patient as they stand up, making this activity much easier.
UNAIDED TRANSFERS:
the aids from the STRUZZO Series enable the user to transfer quickly, without help from a carer. Once the upright position is achieved, it will be possible to perform everyday activities and move on a flat surface. It’s easy to get close enough to work tops to make use of them. Learning a technique that suits the user’s physical conditions enables them to perform a variety of tasks, reducing the need for carer involvement.
ACCESSORIES:
The Struzzo models are ready to be fitted with a series of accessories which, should they be deemed appropriate, give the user greater comfort, better and safer restraint and further improve accessibility. (1) (1) accessories are shown together with the relevant aids

Made in Italy
Giliola Manica Rovereto (Trento) - Italy Spinal cord injury at D5-D6 - 32 years She has been in a wheelchair for 10 years as a result of a motorbike accident
“The new Struzzo plus certainly stands out in terms of functionality when it comes to the possibility of adjusting the supports under the patella and the seating tilt, even for positioning very low seats such as sofas (tested during the photo shoot)... positioning the safety disconnect switch on the tray was a good choice as in the old model it could only be reached once you had finished using the aid and already returned in the wheelchair. Overall its movement has remained very smooth and flowing, maneuvering and encumbrance are limited, and it gives a sense of safety and good stability in the transfer to the upright position. … In general, I find this model has been designed with great care and it brings benefits to the circulation and to the muscular and skeletal system.” Note: this lady already had the previous Struzzo Plus model - former product code 09160.A2 - for home use. She is an INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work) patient.

STRUZZO Series - Adjustments Background:
“A strong link between Struzzo’s performance and its adjustments has emerged as a key aspect to the success of this standing system. This essential condition, which is not negative in itself, becomes critical if one thinks they can use and fully appreciate Struzzo without having first adjusted it to the user’s body, or that they can adjust it without fully understanding what they are doing”. by Carlo Marchesini
“Adapting Struzzo to the user is the first and most important operation to carry out, but this must be done by an adequately trained technician only. An incorrect adjustment limits or even prevents Struzzo from being used.” by Francesco Miotto - Technoton Technical Director (Telethon Foundation technical laboratory)
The easy tool-free adjustment on the new Struzzo Series makes this operation fast and easy to carry out even by the end user.
FOR EASIER ACCESSIBILITY:
<1> Access to the aid is made easier and safer by the alignment of the seat with the original seating position. When transferring from the wheelchair to the standing aid, the seat, unlike the old model, can always remain horizontal and align to the user’s seating level by adjusting the aid height.
<2> The sliding footplates, which are independent and adjustable in depth, reduce the distance between the person in the wheelchair — or sitting — and the base of the structure. This helps transfer the user’s feet onto the standing aid. The footplates can be adjusted even when the user is on them.
1 - ADJUSTING THE STRUCTURE IN HEIGHT:
The support structure adapts to the user’s height easily and with no effort as it is electrically operated. Adjustment can also be made by the user in a quick and easy way, with no need for external help even when they are already standing. The knee, lateral and trunk supports are adjusted accordingly, for greater safety and comfort of the user. Height adjustment: 200 mm Seat minimum height: + 380 mm Seat maximum height: + 580 mm Important Notes: 1 - Adjusting the structure in height also enables a similar adjustment of the shin rests, side handles and tray at the same time. 2 - The aid is suitable for users who are 140 to 200 cm tall and weighing up to 140.

2 - ADJUSTING THE FOOTPLATES
All upright standers feature two footplates at the base of the frame. These slide independently from each other so they can be adjusted to meet the wheelchair users’ accessibility requirements and improve their posture. Depth adjustment: 100 mm
3 - ADJUSTING THE HEEL RESTS
Independent depth adjustment for each heel rest. A special accessory strap (ref. code AC0047) can be added to safely position the feet in the footplate. Depth adjustment: 90 mm x 2 Center distance: minimum 206 mm; maximum 386 mm
4 - ADJUSTING THE SHIN RESTS
The soft and wrap-around shin rests allow the knees to move freely while the user comes to standing. The possible adjustments are as follows: Width adjustment: 170 mm; Center distance: min. 210 mm; max 380 mm (independent) Depth: 100 mm (independent) Height: 40 mm manually, further 200 mm by servo-adjustment Rotation: +/- 20° (independent)
5 - ADJUSTING THE SEAT
Depth is adjustable in standard seat models. A visual indicator signals the maximum safe adjustment allowed. It is possible to slide out the seat completely if needed. Depth adjustment: 120 mm
6 - ADJUSTING THE SIDE HANDLES
6
The side handles are adjustable in width and can be reversed to better restrain the trunk if needs be. Width adjustment: 110 mm x 2 Center distance: minimum 360 mm; maximum 580 mm Handle reversal: allowed
7 - ADJUSTING THE TRAY
The tray tilt can be adjusted directly, whereas the table height adjustment is achieved by adjusting the support structure. Finally, the thoracic support built in this table is adjustable in depth. Tilt adjustment: 5° x 4 = 20° Depth adjustment: 80 mm
8 - ADJUSTING THE JOYSTICK
The joystick position is adjustable in width, depth and rotation, and it is also possible to reverse it to fit the user’s ergonomic requirements. The joystick allows adjusting the speed of transfers and limiting the maximum speed, and it is provided with an acoustic signal and locking system to prevent use from unauthorized people.

STRUZZO Series - models with adjustable seat AV 23 2420 STRUZZO 2420
This device enables the user to assume and maintain an upright position, and to move around indoors independently without assistance from a carer. The user is lifted into a standing position by means of a (rechargeable) battery-powered electric motor operated by hand control, while the movement of the thoracic support accompanies them throughout the lift. The thoracic support has a safety sensor for the user to stop the standing sequence at any time(1). The aid is also provided with a Joystick unit and two motors that allow for the transfers to be carried out unaided(2). A series of adjustments ensure the aid suits the user’s morphological characteristics. In particular, the main body can adjust to the user’s height electrically by means of a motor unit. To better hold the trunk at the sides, the handles can be tilted and adjusted in width(3). The padded seat is adjustable in depth(4). - “the Standing aid is a key rehabilitation companion - has many, easy adjustments - requires a bit of practice to be used unaided (mostly to get on and off) because the front access isn’t suitable for everybody - its design is visually pleasant and “light”, which is something not be disregarded - the supports for extending the knee are not over the patella, but under the patella, which is very good - many optionals for the most complete personalization - very good finishes - easy to move - provides a very good anterior support when getting on and off, which is not the case with other standing aids” Note: Nicolò is a competitive swimmer (member of the national swimming team) and patient of the Local Health Authority.

Series - Introduction TO IMPROVE POSTURE AND SOCIAL LIFE CLASSIC LINE: The models from the STAND UP Series offer various solutions to satisfy the personal needs of a large number of users, according to the user’s motor capabilities and the availability of assistance.
The standing aids from the Stand Up Series are suitable for users who are 140 to 200 cm tall.
STANDING UP:
Depending on their level of strength, users can assume a vertical standing position manually, or with the help of a gas strut or motor operated seat. If transferring from the wheelchair to the standing aid is more difficult, and if there are greater needs for restraints and stability, the model provided with an electric motor-assisted harness can be used.
ADJUSTING THE STRUCTURE IN HEIGHT: ACCESSORIES: the support structure easily adapts to the user’s height as it can be adjusted by means of a gas strut. This adjustment can also be made by the user in a quick and easy way, with no need for external help even when they are already standing. The knee, lateral and trunk supports are adjusted accordingly, for greater safety and comfort of the user. ( (1)
Each model is ready to be fitted with a series of accessories which, should they be deemed appropriate, give the user greater comfort, better and safer restraint and further improve accessibility. A MESSAGE TO ALL CONCERNED: “There are no precise indications as to the duration and frequency of use required to experience specific benefits from using these tools. Most studies indicated this in 30-45 minutes a day. However, it appears that those who can stay up to 1 and half hours a day benefit from a great improvement with regard to secondary complications. It would therefore appear that the minimum suggested time is 30 minutes.” Thesis by Amon Rambaldini

<1> Access to the aid is made easier and safer by the alignment of the seat with the original seating position. When transferring from the wheelchair to the standing aid, the seat, unlike the old model, can always remain horizontal and align to the user’s seating level by adjusting its height.
2
<2> The sliding footplates, which are independent and adjustable in depth, reduce the distance between the person in the wheelchair — or sitting — and the base of the structure. This helps transfer the user’s feet onto the standing aid. The footplates can be adjusted even when the user is on them.
1 - ADJUSTING THE STRUCTURE IN HEIGHT:
the support structure adapts to the user’s height easily and with no effort as it is operated electrically or by gas strut. This adjustment can also be made by the user in a quick and easy way, with no need for external help even when they are already standing. The knee, lateral and trunk supports are adjusted accordingly, for greater safety and comfort of the user. Height adjustment: 200 mm Seat minimum height: + 380 mm Seat maximum height: + 580 mm
Important notes: 1 - Adjusting the support structure height also enables a similar adjustment of the shin rests, side handles and tray at the same time. 2 - The aid is suitable for users who are between 140 and 200 cm tall and weighing up to 140 kg.

Width adjustment: 90 mm x 2 Center distance: minimum 206 mm; maximum 386 mm
4 - ADJUSTING THE SHIN RESTS
The soft and wrap-around shin rests allow the knees to move freely while the user comes to standing. The possible adjustments are as follows: Width adjustment: 170 mm; Center distance: min. 210 mm; max 380 mm (independent) Depth adjustment: 100 mm (independent) Height adjustment: 40 mm manually, further 200 mm by servo-adjustment Rotation: +/- 20° (independent)
5 - ADJUSTING THE TRAY
The models from the STAND UP Series have a tray that is adjustable in depth, height and tilt. In the STAND UP models, the tray also doubles as thoracic support. Depth adjustment: 140 mm
6
Height adjustment: 300 mm The tray height adjustment can also be achieved by adjusting the support structure. Note: +/- 200 mm with height adjustment of the structure
Tilt adjustment: 5° x 4 = 20°

FULLY ASSISTED STANDING UP THE MODELS FROM THE STAND UP SERIES REPRODUCE THE NATURAL HUMAN DYNAMICS WHEN COMING TO STANDING. Traditional motorized standers apply a compression force on the femur axis at the beginning of the lifting maneuver: this means that knees and hips are loaded while they are flexing, i.e. in a position that is not ideal for the load. That is why applying a load is unsuitable or even dangerous for people with osteoarthritis of the knees and hips, those with consequences of a hip fracture, those with severe femoral osteoporosis and those who have undergone replacement hip operations (sometimes prone to dislocation). The standing aid with seat completely removes this compression force and is therefore particularly safe and comfortable.

Guide to Choosing the Standing Aid The models are illustrated according to the motor and residual co-ordination capabilities of the user Abstract from a medical report written by Dr. Paolo Rispoli - Physiatrist in Venice - Italy (2010)
STAND UP SERIES MANUAL MODEL - UNASSISTED LIFT
AV 11 1110 STAND UP 1110 Users who are able to transfer themselves from their wheelchair to the standing aid and to lift themselves up unaided can use this simple standing aid. Help is needed to close the buttock support (only few users are able to perform this operation by themselves). If efficient and continual assistance is available, this standing aid is also suitable for weaker users who only use it few times during the day. It is the cheapest item in the range. The anthropometric adjustment is facilitated by a gas strut which helps to lift and lower the main support structure along with the leg, hand and trunk supports without any effort.
MODEL WITH SEAT – GAS STRUT ASSISTED LIFT
AV 11 4210 STAND UP 4210 This standing aid can be used by weak but careful and sufficiently coordinated users who are able to transfer themselves unaided from their wheelchair to the standing aid seat, but who are unable to lift themselves up unaided. The gas strut provides a gentle push that integrates that of the user. The same mechanism safely supports the user, who can stop and rest at an intermediate position between seated and upright before completing the lift. The anthropometric adjustment is facilitated by a second gas strut which helps to lift and lower the main support structure along with the leg, hand and trunk supports without any effort..
MODELS WITH SEAT – ELECTRIC MOTOR ASSISTED LIFT
AV 11 4310 STAND UP 4310 AV 11 4410 STAND UP 4410 This standing aid suits those users who are able to transfer themselves from their wheelchair to the standing aid seat unaided, but do not have much lifting strength, as it requires sufficient balance but no lifting effort. If the user is stable on the seat, but is unable to help their own transfer from their wheelchair to the seat, the cushion-pocket can be used (accessory on request). This makes it possible to insert the lifting seat under the wheelchair anti-decubitus cushion without moving the user.
the model shown is code AV 11 4310
The anthropometric adjustment is facilitated by a second electric motor (ref. code AV 11 4410), which lifts the main support structure along with the leg, hand and trunk supports without any effort, or it is facilitated by a gas strut which reduces the carer’s effort (ref. code AV 11 4310).
MODEL WITH HARNESS – ELECTRIC MOTOR ASSISTED LIFT
AV 11 5310 STAND UP 5310 This harness standing aid can be used by those users who cannot cooperate or are unstable when sitting, even when leaning on the handles with both hands; a pocket in the harness helps the carer position it under the user’s buttocks. The geometry of the lifting forces minimizes the load on the knees and hips - often frail in elderly people. However, the load is greater than in the standing aids with lifting seat, where it is almost non-existent. The institutions for the elderly and rehabilitation, where the standing aid is used by more than one person, may prefer this standing aid or a model from the EASY UP Series, as they are helpful for the users and reduce the carers’ workload. The anthropometric adjustment is facilitated by a gas strut which helps lift and lower the main support structure along with the leg, hand and trunk supports without any effort.

This can be the ideal model when there are several users over the course of the day that are possibly very weak, bent forward, unable to cooperate much and suffer if their hips and knees are overloaded; it also reduces the carers’ workload. The patient stands up pushed by the electric motor seat, but is also aided by the handles-thoracic support-assembly and tray. This can be lowered down when the patient is seated, providing anterior support to the patient’s trunk when he is already sitting and during the lift by remaining horizontal while the patient rises together with the seat. The lift stop is controlled by the user or carer, but a safety switch stops the motor automatically after the patient is lifted. If the user is unable to help their own transfer from the wheelchair to the standing aid, the cushion-pocket can be used (accessory on request). This makes it possible to insert the lifting seat under the anti-decubitus cushion without lifting the user from the wheelchair. Users who are able to transfer themselves from their wheelchair to the standing aid and to lift themselves up unaided can use this simple standing aid. Help is needed to close the buttock support (only few users are able to perform this operation by themselves).
This standing aid can be used by weak but careful and sufficiently coordinated users who are able to transfer themselves unaided from their wheelchair to the standing aid seat, but who are unable to lift themselves up unaided.
This standing aid suits those users who are able to transfer themselves from their wheelchair to the standing aid seat unaided, but do not have much lifting strength, as it requires sufficient balance but no lifting effort.
This harness standing aid can be used by those users who cannot cooperate or are unstable when sitting, even when leaning on the handles with both hands; a pocket in the harness helps the carer position it under the user’s buttocks.
If efficient and continual assistance is available, this standing aid is also suitable for weaker users who only use it few times during the day. It is the most economical item in the range.
The hydrauic provides a gentle push that integrates that of the user. The same mechanism safely supports the user, who can stop and rest at an intermediate position between seated and upright before completing the lift.
If the user is stable on the seat, but is unable to help their own transfer from their wheelchair to the seat, the cushion-pocket can be used (accessory on request). This makes it possible to insert the lifting seat under the wheelchair anti-decubitus cushion without moving the user.

This can be the ideal model when there are several users over the course of the day that are possibly very weak, bent forward, unable to cooperate much and suffer if their hips and knees are overloaded; it also reduces the carers’ workload. The patient stands up pushed by the electric motor seat, but is also aided by the handlesthoracic support-assembly and tray. This can be lowered down when the patient is seated, providing anterior support to the patient’s trunk when they are already sitting and during the lift by remaining horizontal while the patient rises together with the seat. The cushionpocket can only be used with the long, fixed seat; when the user is able to transfer themselves from the wheelchair to the standing aid with little help, there is no need to use the cushionpocket and the short seat adjustable in depth is preferable.

• ELONGATED ADJUSTABLE SEAT • ELECTRIC ASSISTED LIFT • ELECTRIC HEIGHT ADJUSTMENTS • STANDARD TRAY • THORACIC SUPPORT IN MOTION • UNAIDED TRANSFERS
This equipment enables those users who are plegic but careful and have sufficient control over one hand movement to achieve performances and sensations equivalent to those of an able walker: the pleasure of moving at a fast pace while holding an upright position, of having the same access to high shelves as anyone else and only a little less agility when going through narrow passages. The patient stands up pushed by the electric motor seat, but is also aided by the handlesthoracic support- assembly and tray. This can be lowered down when the patient is seated, providing anterior support to their trunk when he is already sitting and during the lift. The lift stop is controlled by the user or carer, but a safety switch stops the motor automatically after the patient is lifted. If the user is unable to help their own transfer from the wheelchair to the aid, the cushionpocket can be used (accessory on request). This makes it possible to insert the lifting seat under the anti-decubitus cushion without lifting the user from the wheelchair. The cushionpocket can only be used with the long seat; when the user is able to transfer themselves from the wheelchair to the aid with little help, it is not necessary to use the cushion-pocket and the short seat is preferable.
