President

Dear Parents and Friends of St. Francis High School, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it,” said a renowned writer, “is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Another said, “It’s not what we have in our life, but who we have in our life that counts.” Both of these insightful quotes bring me to the heart of this letter: “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And then thank you again.”

Catholic High School

From

When I began this wonderful journey at St. Francis High School eleven years ago, I could not possibly have imagined the treasures that were awaiting me. As in a kaleidoscope, each new person I met added a hue of color, a unique texture, an interesting design, all to form a stunning pattern that makes up the beauty that is St. Francis High School—all of you, and with you, your beautiful daughters. As each new year unfolded, I realized more fully the great gift that God had

Mission Statement St. Francis High School is a Catholic diocesan college preparatory school dedicated to serving young women and their families who seek spiritual growth and academic excellence. given me. With each new year, my heart filled with gratitude over-flowing, and I began to understand that I would leave St. Francis High School a much better person than when I came: more open, more compassionate, more understanding—more humble. I wish there was some way to thank each of you individually, but since this is impossible, please accept my deepest thanks for gracing my life, for filling my kaleidoscope with patterns untold. You will always be a part of me wherever I go. What a privilege it has been to have known you and to be part of this great community! Once again, thank you! With deepest gratitude,

• Sophomore = 15 hours in at least 2 different nonprofit agencies and types of service • Freshman = 10 hours in at least 2 different nonprofit agencies and types of service 2. Service Agency Requirements: • All service done for the Christian Service Program must be done in a direct fashion (ie face-to-face) with people in need. All service must be done in a pre-approved non-profit agency setting. For a list of approved service agencies please see the Christian Service Pages of our website. If you would like to do service at an agency that is not on the list, please fill out a Special Permission Request found on the website before beginning service. 3. Logging and Turning-in Service Hours: • This year we moved away from our old logging system in favor of an online program. Students are now to log their hours onto Troubieserve (linked on website). All hours must be logged within the 60 day window provided by the program. Once all of the hours are completed students are to have their hours verified by the agencies they served with. This verification can come in the form of a signature, a letter, an email, etc. Students will turn in a printed record of service from Troubieserve and the verification to their Theology teacher. Students failing to turn in their hours and verification by May 1 will receive an incomplete in their Theology class. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Miles Foley, Campus Minister for Christian Service: mfoley@stfrancishs.org.

Easter Celebration Mass • Wednesday, April 18 • 10:35am • SFHS Gym Come celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus with the students and staff of SFHS at our Easter Celebration Mass. As we return to school refreshed from an Easter break, we also begin a new liturgical season - the seven week season of Easter. This season is known as the Great Fifty Days and lasts until Pentecost Sunday which coincidentally takes us through the remainder of the school year. Junior Family Mass and Commissioning Service • Sunday, May 20 • 10:30am • SFHS Gym As members of the class of 2013 assume their positions as upper-class women, we celebrate this transition with a Mass of Thanksgiving and a commissioning ceremony. During this special family celebration, parents will pin their daughters with the school pin representing SFHS’s Four Pillars of Faith, Excellence, Leadership and Service and share with them their hopes for their daughter’s senior year. This Mass celebrates, recognizes and empowers the young women to be the mentors and leaders of the school in the coming year.

Service Immersion Trips Over Spring Break and Summer Break, 65 students from the Class of 2013 and 11 staff members will spend a week in service to communities around our country. They will travel to New Orleans, San Francisco, Winnebago (Nebraska), San Diego and the Bronx (New York) to serve the poor, rebuild houses, beautify neighborhoods, mentor at-risk youth and serve in many other ways to bring the love, joy and mercy of God to those in need. Please keep these students and staff in your prayers as they do this very important work and as they bring their experiences back to SFHS to help form this community. Service Immersion Trips are available as part of the Christian Service Program to students in their Junior year. Applications will be available for the Class of 2014 early next Fall.

Senior Family Mass - Baccalaureate • May 22 • 8:00pm • SFHS Gym Families and close friends are welcome to join in this very special celebration honoring the Class of 2012. No tickets are necessary. Guidance Department Seniors

I am attending” you can select the college you will be attending from the drop down menu. This will let us know where we need to send your final transcript in June.

Statement of Intent to Register

Most colleges and universities require all admitted students to submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). These should be sent by May 1 to the institution the student has chosen to attend next fall. Financial aid offers often do not arrive until mid April, thus it is imperative that students weigh their choices carefully, but quickly, after April 15. Please make sure to go into Naviance Family Connection and input the colleges you have applied to, and/or are planning to attend.

Community College Applicants All seniors who will be attending community college next fall should complete an on-line application by April 1st. Students are also encouraged to take the assessment exams and attend an on-campus orientation session in order to receive priority registration. Please see your counselor for questions or assistance in this area.

Scholarships and Awards We know that you are applying for scholarships and/or being offered scholarships and awards from colleges to which you have been accepted. In order for your scholarship awards to be published in the Graduation Program and in the Awards Assembly Program you must do the following:

Juniors

Academic and College Counseling This spring each Junior will have a one-on-one, block-long appointment with a college advisor to ensure fulfillment of graduation and college requirements, registration for entrance examinations, and to begin plans for their college choices. If students or parents still have questions, please contact your daughter’s College Advisor.

• Log into Naviance • Go to “colleges” and scroll down to “scholarship applications” • Click on “add scholarships” and type in the amount you were awarded and select the name of the scholarship from the drop down menu. For example, if Gonzaga gave you $40K, enter the amount at $40K even if it will be paid over 4 years. So you will enter the total amount of the award. • If a scholarship isn’t listed you will need to e-mail Mrs. Austin and ask her to add it to Naviance (daustin@stfrancishs.org) • All Scholarships and awards need to be verified. You can do this by submitting a copy of your award and dropping it off on in a designated box on Mrs. Rivera’s desk in the Guidance Center. You may also fax copies to (916) 4521828 or email a copy to Mrs. Rivera at srivera@stfrancishs. org.

Free ACT and SAT Test Prep! SFHS has just added ACT Prep onto the Method Test Prep program in Naviance. Students can now take a full 20-week test prep course for the ACT or SAT online for free (St. Francis pays for this service for you). There are lessons to review, full-length practice tests, vocabulary builders, practice questions, and many other features! To access this free resource, simply log in to Naviance Family Connection and click on the Method Test Prep 2.0 link on the left hand side of the home page. Naviance You are encouraged to browse on Naviance: enter activities and awards in your resume, complete a college search and view information on careers and scholarships. We encourage ALL students to note their various usernames and passwords in a document that they save on their home computer. This is especially important as students register for tests in the junior year and begin college applications in the senior year. Also, keep track of the Naviance usernames and passwords. Parents if you have not requested a username and password please contact Mrs. Rivera via email at srivera@stfrancishs.org.

Please submit all copies by April 20 so we can have your information added to the Graduation Program and the Awards Assembly Program. Final Transcripts Colleges need to have your final grades, and we need to know where to send your transcript. Once you’ve decided where you will attend, go into Naviance and click on the “colleges” tab, then click on “colleges I’m applying to.” Under “colleges that

During the summer, SF girls take courses so they can move ahead during the school year or have a free block off in the fall. Incoming freshman get to know the campus and feel right at home once the fall semester starts. Younger students appreciate the opportunities offered and get to know the fun-loving safe campus that SF offers. Summer on campus is a relaxed atmosphere. Students dive into just one or two subjects at a time. There is no school uniform, only a dress code. The cafeteria is open for breakfast and lunch where students can hang out together for a meal or grab a quick snack. Classes and sports are taught by the St. Francis dedicated staff and coaches.
