Dear Friends of St. Francis Catholic High School, Welcome to An Evening in Wonderland, our Twelfth Annual Revelry Gala and Auction! We are so happy that you have joined us for a whimsical night of fun and festivity celebrating the beautiful community of St. Francis Catholic High School. Tonight is the culmination of a year-long effort by our hardworking Revelry Committee under the outstanding leadership of our chairs, Julie Sandino-Areias and Rusty Areias (Alexis ’18). They, along with all those who have prepared for this evening, have poured incredible time, creativity and passion into this event which contributes significantly to the stewardship of our young Troubadours. We extend a special thank you to our generous sponsors, especially our Presenting Sponsor, The Angelo K. and Sofia Tsakopoulos Family (Eleni Kounalakis ’85, Athena Tsakopoulos ’86); our Mobile Bidding Sponsor, Big Hairy Dog, Sandy & Mick Malaney (Maggie ’18); and our Platinum Sponsors, Julie Sandino-Areias & Rusty Areias (Alexis ’18); The Mimosa House, Lou & Stephanie Dedier (Jordyn ’21); Nancy & Rob Sbisa (Lia ’12, Pilar ’15, Maya ’18); and TeleDirect Communications, Celia Puff (Kristen ’16). We are especially excited to introduce the Spirit of San Damiano Award whose inaugural recipient is Mr. Charles Schwing, retired SFHS Math/Technology Teacher of 38 years. As you will see tonight, Mr. Schwing was passionate about excellence in the classroom and inspired his students to be all that they dared to be. His generosity is felt to this day in the students he motivated, facilities he invested in, and the scholarship support he continues to provide our students. Through the generosity of our Revelry guests over the years, the Hands Up for Troubies items have enhanced educational programs and state-of-the-art upgrades to our campus. This year we ask you to raise your paddle to help us create an outdoor Math classroom, inspired by Mr. Schwing’s love of the outdoors, which will provide our Troubies a green space in which to find inspiration and for our Math instructors to provide compelling Math examples found in nature. On behalf of all the Troubies who benefit from your generosity and our faculty and staff, I offer sincere gratitude. Your support provides our students with a life-changing experience, offering opportunities to know God, appreciate their unique gifts and talents, and understand their responsibility to be of service to others. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our school. We pray for you often, asking the intercession of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. Please pray for us that we continue to be good stewards of your many gifts, including your wonderful daughters. Through your support and collaboration, we continue to “graduate young women who change the world.” In the spirit of Pax et Bonum,

Theresa Rodgers President

Letter from the Chairs Dear Revelry Supporters and Patrons, We are honored to be the co-chairs of the 12th Annual Revelry Gala and Auction. We extend a special thank you to our presenting sponsor the Angelo K. and Sofia Tsakopoulos family and to all of our Gala sponsors. Your support tonight will have a lasting impact for the students at St. Francis Catholic High School. An evening like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication that our incredible committee members and volunteers have brought to the creation of this event—our heartfelt appreciation to all of you. From start to finish, the committee was so amazingly dedicated, creative and filled with enthusiasm. It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside this amazing group. Thank you! To all of you parents, grandparents, and friends, this night is for you and your daughters. And how about our St. Francis Catholic High School alumnae? You are so greatly appreciated for you continue to be ambassadors for the school by sustaining the Troubie bond with your presence here tonight. Finally, President Theresa Rogers, advancement team, faculty and staff, your leadership and exceptional devotion towards our girls in providing the highest quality education and sense of sisterhood is truly special. Gifts come in many ways. This evening is about bringing together friends and local businesses who are gathered for a common cause. We need to take a moment to pat ourselves on the back and celebrate the success of all of our efforts in creating this amazing gift of community for the betterment of all the young women at St. Francis—that is truly priceless! As Alice herself said, “This is my dream, I’ll decide where it goes from here.” Thank you for giving our students the tools to fulfill their dreams! Have a wonderful evening! 2) Exclusive Flight of Three Wines This flight of three wines includes a Joseph Phelps Vineyards 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus, a 2007 Schafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select, and 2009 Harlan Estate Proprietary Blend The Maiden. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard, from a steep hillside site in the low end of the Vaca mountains, across from Rudd Vineyards and Screaming Eagle, boasts an inky/purple color along with remarkably sweet tannins. It possesses broad, expansive flavors, an opulent, full-bodied palate and unreal length. One of the superstars of the vintage, it can be enjoyed over the next 20 years. The 2007 Schafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select boasts a 100 Robert Parker rating. It has a stunning nose of sweet crème de cassis, black cherries, licorice, and toasty oak, a multilayered, full-throttle personality, and a texture that builds and builds. Great purity, fabulous fruit intensity and a richness without heaviness characterize this massive, prodigious effort from Shafer. This wine can be enjoyed for at least two to three decades. The 2009 Proprietary Blend The Maiden wraps around the palate with dark cherries, plums, cinnamon, cloves and new leather. This is a surprisingly muscular style for the year, with quite a bit less of the early appeal than is found in many other wines. The aromas and flavors remain dark, powerful and brooding from start to finish. Donor: Julie & Kevin Sloat (Zoe ’21)

M eet Our Inaugural Spirit of San Damiano Award Recipient

Mr. charlie schwing St. Francis Catholic High School is introducing “The Spirit of San Damiano Award” to recognize outstanding individuals who have significantly contributed to our school community by modelling our pillars of faith, excellence, leadership and service for a significant period. We are pleased to announce the first recipient of the inaugural award is Mr. Charlie Schwing. Mr. Schwing taught Math and technology courses at St. Francis Catholic High School for 36 years and retired in 2013. He inspired his students to love Math; even those who felt they could not excel in Math, felt confident in their abilities due to Mr. Schwing’s methods and amazing patience. He was loved for his candor, pragmatism, humor and compassion. Through Math, he also taught our Troubies about life, urging them to pursuits that would allow them to look back on their lives with joy and without regret. His passion for teaching and learning changed lives. Even after retirement in 2013, Mr. Schwing continued to tutor students in Math until he and his wife, Anne, moved to their home in Napa closer to their family ranch. Mr. Schwing continues to support the school’s scholarship fund and most recently, was a matching donor for his students on Thankful Thursday, enabling us to bring in over $200,000 for student scholarship support!

Most High glorious God, bring light to the darkness of my heart. Give me right faith, certain hope, and perfect charity, insight and wisdom, so I can always

The Significance of the San Damiano Cross All Franciscans cherish the San Damiano cross as the symbol of the mission from God to commit our lives and resources to renew and rebuild the Church in the power of God. There is no better way to renew the Church than by educating young women to be models of Pax et Bonum (peace and goodness) while developing their gifts and talents through leadership and service.

About the Spirit of San Damiano Award Recipients of the Spirit of San Damiano Award are outstanding individuals who inspire and empower St. Francis Catholic High School to fulfill its mission of “serving young women and their families who seek spiritual growth and academic excellence.” Their love for St. Francis Catholic High School and our Troubadours is evidenced by their extreme generosity of time, talent and treasure.

24) Hands Up for Troubies: Outdoor Math Classroom For the benefit of all current and future St. Francis Troubadours, and to honor long-term Math and Technology teacher, Mr. Charles Schwing, help us raise the funds needed for an outdoor Math classroom. As Euclid reminded us, “The laws of nature are but the mathematical thoughts of God.” An inclination to observe and understand these “thoughts of God” drove mathematicians to explore and create the systems of logic that we study in high school mathematics today. While our mathematical forebearers found this study as natural as the world around them, our cultural relationship with math has not felt as innate. Learning in an environment that bridges the natural development of mathematics-- with the stress relieving benefits of green space will have a profound impact on our students’ relationship with mathematics. An outdoor classroom would provide an opportunity for our budding mathematicians to learn in the elemental environment that inspired Galileo to proclaim, “Mathematics is the alphabet with which God has written the universe.”

About our Emcee Frances Wang

Accomplished Alum, Frances Wang ’10, will emcee St. Francis’ premiere event, Revelry Gala & Auction, “An Evening in Wonderland.” She brings a bundle of energy and a passion for all things St. Francis. After graduating from St. Francis Catholic High School, Frances went on to become a Trojan at the University of Southern California. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. During her time there, she also earned a second Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Frances dreamed of being a journalist since she was kid after being interviewed by Walt Gray. Currently working as a reporter for ABC10, Frances joined their team in October 2015. She’s always been the most talkative of her peers, so her former teachers and classmates aren’t surprised she became a reporter! Frances’ favorite part of her job is getting to know people she may not have met otherwise. She loves to tell stories about the amazing things people do for their communities – especially her Troubadour sisters (and boy does she have Lady Bird fever - come see her again at next week’s on-campus Oscar party). Prior to ABC10, Frances worked as a morning news reporter for KREM2 in Spokane, Washington, where she would cover breaking news one day and zip line through the mountains on live TV the next. She’s also had internships at KABC-TV, CNN and E! News.
