EXCLUSIVE: An Interview With @sfgirlprobz By KATIE SCHEMBRI ’14

Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye! Ever wondered who @sfgirlprobz is? Well, I’ve got the exclusive interview on the inspiration behind the page and who the Troubie is! M: What inspired you to start the Twitter account? SF Girl Probz: I thought St. Francis should have its own Twitter page run by a student, not a faculty member or anything. I felt it needed its own

inside scoop type of deal from a student’s perspective. M: Were you expecting the response you got? SF Girl Probz: Not really. I kinda thought it would die down, but it didn’t. M: Do you have plans of making one in college? SF Girl Probz: Haha no. M: How did you keep the page a secret? SF Girl Probz: I just didn’t

talk about it or tell anyone about it! When people brought it up in conversations I just treated it and talked about it like it wasn’t my page. I really tried my absolute best to keep it anonymous because I thought it would be better that way. M: Where do you get your ideas for posts from? SF Girl Probz: Sometimes I hear people talking about certain things at school and think, “Hey, that would make a

pretty good post.” Some posts are based off of school events, like assemblies or homecoming week. And some of it I just come up with! M: What is the best tip in becoming Twitter famous? SF Girl Probz: I mean, I don’t really know. I don’t really consider myself Twitter famous, but just be yourself? M: Who are you??? SF Girl Probz: Nina Madsen

A quick glance at the @sfgirlprobz twitter account!

La Boutique: Store Closing!

By KATIE SCHEMBRI ‘14

Fashion styles come and go. There are trends, colors, hairstyles, and makeup that are some years in and then out. Now, since this is my last article of La Boutique, I want to leave with some timeless tips that will help make you fabulous. 1. Enlist the help of others! Go to Nordstrom and get a makeover to see what kind of products look good on you. Get help from employees when shopping. They know the inventory more than you. Do you have a friend that is a wizard with hair? Ask her to help you or to do your hair. 2. Use apps like Pinterest to plan and spark creativity for hair and makeup. What else would you use the iPads for?

3. Be adventurous: Whether you are stuck in rut, or have no experience in makeup, hair, or wardrobe, be willing to try new things, to practice, and explore. 4. Dress for yourself: I hear so many people worrying what others are doing with their wardrobe and whether or not someone would like something. Dress to impress you! 5. “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” -Coco Chanel 6. Seek Inspiration! Whether looking at Audrey Hepburn’s clothes in “Funny Face” to putting tabs on your favorite issue of Instyle magazine, use others’ creativity to spark your own.

7. Confidence is the best accessory. 8. It’s better to overdress than to underdress. 9. Organize your closet. Although it is hard work to go through clothes, it is important to organize and remove clothes not being worn to donate to a good cause. It also reminds us of all the options we have, not to mention de-clutters our life. 10. Be Bold: Stand out. I don’t need to say anything more. Thank you so much for allowing me to take this journey with you. We have watched each other grow these last four years. Keep growing into the beautiful young women you all are. I’m Katie, your tour guide through the fashion world, signing off for the last time.

The Kirstien Chronicles

May 14, 2014

Interviewing the Inspiring Intellectual (Ms. Mari Kirstien) By DIANE MENARDO ’15 Mandolin (M): For those who don’t know, what is your position at St. Francis? Ms. Kirstien (K): I teach in the English Department. M: Who was your mascot? K: My mascot was Mickey Mouse. :) M: What is your favorite food from the cafeteria? K: I am quite partial to the chocolate chip cookies. M: What is one thing you wish SF would bring back? K: I would bring back the animal

blessing at the SF Day Mass. When I was here we could bring our pets to school with us that day, so it was common to see cats, dogs, horses, etc. on campus. It was a good time. M: What is the biggest difference at SF from when you were a student and now? K: We didn’t have detention when I was a student here. I’ve always assumed that was because we were a far more virtuous group of young women. :) M: Who was your favorite teacher at SF? K: This is a dangerous question since I work with many of my former teachers; however, I would have to say Mr.

Weldon. M: What extracurricular activities did you participate in during high school? K: Napping. M: Did you ever think you were going to come back to work at SF after graduating? K: Not even for a minute, but I couldn’t be happier to be back. M: What is your most embarrassing/ funniest moment at SF (as a student or a faculty member)? K: A student accidentally threw a shoe at me in the hallway. It was unpleasant.

being/working at SF? K: My students, no question. I also get to teach Walt Whitman...I love that man! M: Can you give us a fun fact about yourself? K: I like my dog more than most people. M: Do you have any advice for the SF students regarding high school? K: Most situations can be improved by taking a deep breath and reminding yourself how awesome you are.

M: What is your favorite thing about

Above are a few of Ms. Kirstien’s favorite things: labs (#Tucker), Walt Whitman (#SongOfMyself), and The Colbert Report. Photo Courtesy Google Images
