ST GEORGE’S, LEEDS PL ANTING CURATE

ST GEORGE’S is an evangelical charismatic Anglican church, w i t h l i n k s t o Ne w W i n e . We h a v e a s t r a t e g i c c i t y c e n t r e l o c a t i o n , next to Leeds General Infirmary and the University of Leeds, and gather people from across Leeds and the surrounding area.

Average Sunday attendance is about 475 adults (including students) and 45 children/young people, plus a further 80 adults at Lighthouse.

Our vision is SHARING LIFE, LOVING LEEDS – we do this by preaching Jesus, making disciples, serving the city and sending out leaders. Our website gives a good snapshot of what is going on:

I n S e p t e m b e r 2 0 1 7 , o u r n e w Re c t o r L i z z y Wo o l f a r r i v e d , a n d St George’s was designated as a R E S O U R C E C H U R C H . This is a natural development of St George’s existing vision, but also involves a step up in various areas. A church plant to St Paul’s I r e l a n d Wo o d ( l o c a t e d a b o u t 5 m i l e s f r o m S t G e o r g e’ s ) l a u n c h e d in Januar y 2018, with a team of 44 from St George’s and a gift of £ 5 0 ,0 0 0 f r o m o u r s t r a t e g i c m i s s i o n f u n d . We a r e n o w r e b u i l d i n g financial giving and volunteers so we are ready to plant again in 3 years’ time. Our key priorities for the year are I N T E G R AT I O N (of our very diverse church community) and E VA N G E L I S M .

Our new PL ANTING CURATE will join a dynamic and supportive staff team of about 30 people, including 6 ordained clergy.

S/he will have the opportunity to exercise and develop his/her leadership, teaching and pastoral skills in a variety of areas of church life and ministry, whilst also building a team and preparing to church plant. There is a clear expectation (from both the Diocese of Leeds and St George’s) that s/he will lead our next church plant at the end of his/her curacy. A 7 YEAR COMMITMENT to Leeds (rather than the normal 3 years for a curacy) is therefore required.

St George’s is one of 5 Resource Churches in Leeds. These churches are working closely together under the leadership of Bishop Paul Slater, as part of a diocesan strategy to bless the city of Leeds. Being a planting curate here will be exciting and d e m a n d i n g . We a r e l o o k i n g f o r someone with vision, energy, gifts, and some relevant experience, to INVEST IN AND RELEASE – in order to build up the kingdom of God in Leeds.
