GOLF MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF Sean McGaughey, PGA Director of Golf I hope this month’s newsletter finds you warm and surviving the cold temperatures that January brought us. I had a little chuckle the other week when I looked outside and saw a few snowflakes moving past the window at Camp Creek! That being said I think I have to apologize for bringing cold weather from Atlanta. Golf was a little slow this month, but all of the staff is in high spirits for the upcoming season at the Clubs by JOE. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up for the inaugural “Net Match Play Championship,” please make sure to do so as soon as possible. This year long event is a great way to meet new members and enjoy the thrill of a Match Play Format. The Clubs by JOE’s premier Member-Guest tournament, Shootout at the Creek, is right around the corner. This tournament consists of 5 nine-hole matches with a shootout to follow to crown our champion. Sign-ups are still open but with a limited field size of 54 teams, spots are going fast! If you’re looking to beat some rust off your clubs or just want a second set of eyes to look at your swing, stop by one of our Golf Shops so our golf professionals can give you a tune up. It’s always good to get the year started right and our staff is here to help you get straightened out. Keeping track of your scores is a very important part of the game, and making sure your scores are entered following play is just as essential. With 2018 already upon us, make it your New Year’s resolution to track your rounds more consistently. Equitable stroke control is how we measure ourselves and thanks to apps on our smart phones, entering our scores is just as simple. Next time you have a few minutes make sure to go into the app store and download the GHIN app. This valuable tool allows you to save your favorite golf courses and make entering your scores extremely easy. If you’re looking to lower your scores, course management is how good players become great. Next time you are out on the course try to tackle each hole like a puzzle. Strategic play and a well thought out plan will always yield lower scores as opposed to the risk reward theory of grip it and rip it. On the flip side, I still wish I could hit it like Dustin Johnson! As always, I look forward to seeing you all at the clubs and keep on swinging.

Directions: 1. In the microwave melt unsweetened chocolate, 8 ounces of the chocolate chips, and the butter stirring occasionally until smooth. 2. Set aside to cool. In a large bowl, whip eggs and sugar until thick and pale, about 2 minutes. 3. Stir in the vanilla and the chocolate mixture until well mixed. 4. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually stir into the chocolate mixture. 5. Fold in remaining 8 ounces chocolate chips. 6. Cover dough and chill for at least an hour or overnight. 7. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 8. Roll chilled dough into 1 inch balls. 9. Place on cookie sheets with parchment paper so they are 2 inches apart. 10. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes in the preheated oven. 11. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

within me a constant yearning for trying new things. Since putting in my time in a kitchen and becoming a Chef, my life has become consumed with finding inspiration for the next dish. I love taking the time on days off to venture around the area I’m living and seek out restaurants and dishes I have never tried before. From braised beef heart, to the freshest scallops right out of the bay, to squid ink risotto, you just never know what you’ll love until you try it. SO TRY EVERYTHING!

Barry Webb Director of Tennis During the winter months, please be advised that freezing temperatures will often render the courts unplayable. Use of the courts during these conditions will cause damage to the court surface and more importantly, may lead to player injury. You may contact me to verify availability following inclement weather. Ladies team league match play is underway for the Spring season. We will be hosting one home match this month on February 13 at Shark’s Tooth. Each court will be occupied from 8:30 AM — 1:00 PM. If you are interested in joining a team, please contact me for more information and details. Beginner level players are welcome to participate in the women’s Rookie Clinic each Wednesday morning from 10:00 — 11:00 AM. This is an excellent opportunity to get started and involved in tennis. Doubles Drills are held each Thursday morning 10:00 — 11:00 AM. Court positioning and strategy are emphasized during live ball drills. Registration is required for each program. Private, semi-private and group instructions are also available for junior and adult players. If you are ready to take your game to the next level, please contact me to schedule your specific day and time.

I look forward to seeing each of you on the courts!
