Hollie Parker

In a recent conversation with a Member at Camp Creek, he mentioned how excited he was that he tried paddle boarding for the first time. He explained the reflective views on Lake Powell at sunrise and the sounds of the birds coming from all angles. The joy in his voice and the excitement on his face was enough to feel his enthusiasm for truly living his best life! He is not retired and he doesn’t get to enjoy every day on the golf course, but this is a perfect example of someone taking the time to slow down and really enjoy themselves and their surroundings. So many times we get caught up in our day-to-day schedules and forget to slow down and take it all in. Enjoy the beautiful place we live and have a cocktail at the Beach Club’s Sunset Bar. Laundry and the conference call can wait! We’re coming up on the best time of the year where the crowds on 30A disperse, the air is a bit less humid, and the sunsets are nothing short of perfection. This is the time to live. Don’t wait. Live that lifestyle that you dreamed of and take a day (or two!) for yourself.

GOLF A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF Sean McGaughey, PGA Director of Golf I hope this finds you well and back into the swing of things from the summer months. August seemed to fly by as we did our yearly maintenance on both Camp Creek and Shark’s Tooth Golf Clubs. I have to say both facilities look wonderful and a big thank you to both Josh Parker and Ryan Dykes for doing such a great job. Shark’s Tooth did a more aggressive punch than in years past with a 10” deep core punch to really allow the greens to breath. The end result is firmer more consistent greens and I am very excited to see how they play in the coming months. The Clubs by JOE hosted it’s inaugural “Getaway” at the end of August to the mountains of North Carolina. Ten brave members accompanied both Matt and myself to take on The Cliffs’ Membership in a winner-take-all match play format. The event took place over three days, allowing The Clubs by JOE Members a chance to play three of The Cliffs’ seven beautiful golf clubs. After having a great practice round at Keowee Vineyards, the team kicked it into tournament mode and took down The Cliffs Membership in dramatic fashion. The Cliffs’ staff & Members couldn’t have been any more welcoming and we would like to thank them for their hospitality to our Club. The golf couldn’t have been better but the night life and restaurants really hit the spot. We would like to thank all the gentlemen that were able to participate and hope you all had a wonderful week. These trips are such a great way to build camaraderie while experiencing a new town. Please be on the lookout for more trips this winter! A couple of things to look forward to this month are our Putting Championship at Camp Creek, as well as our final Couples Nine & Dine of the season at Shark’s Tooth. We have also added a fitting day at Camp Creek on Friday, September 14th from 11 AM to 4 PM with PXG, Titleist and Callaway. If you are in the market for new clubs, please come see us then! Last but not least, the shop has received a lot of new product and it’s a great time of year to start thinking about early gifts for the holidays. Both Camp Creek and Shark’s Tooth have introduced a few new lines, and the feedback has been nothing but positive. Stop in to either of the golf shops and let us help you get set for the upcoming holiday season!

CHEF’S CORNER YELLOW HAMMER SLAMMER

WELCOME DAN BOWER!

September in the South means only one thing – football is back. In the spirit of the season, here is our take on Gallette’s famous Yellow Hammer cocktail.

We would like to welcome Dan Bower to The Clubs by JOE team as Executive Chef at WaterSound Beach Club!

The cocktail is named after Alabama’s state bird: the northern flicker of the woodpecker family, also known as the yellowhammer. This state bird also happens to have a distinct presence in “Rammer Jammer”, a popular piece of Crimson Tide game-day gospel. Although this cocktail originated in Tuscaloosa, no “roll tides” are required to re-create this tailgate favorite. Ingredients: • 1 oz. Amaretto • 1 oz. White Rum • 1 oz. Vodka • Equal parts Orange Pineapple Juice

and

Pour over ice and garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and vodka and substitute 1 oz. Amaretto with 1/2 oz. of Orgeat Syrup.

Dan comes to us all the way from Hawaii where he was most recently Executive Chef at The Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu. Here, he oversaw the food & beverage teams of multiple venues to ensure the highest quality dining and special event experience. Dan is no stranger to the private Club environment, having held various culinary and managerial roles across Clubs in Hawaii and Idaho over the last decade. He is also familiar with the 30A area, beginning his culinary career as Sous Chef at Fish Out of Water in the early 2000s. Dan is excited to join The Clubs by JOE team and have the opportunity to return to Northwest Florida once again. We look forward to having Dan as a part of the WaterSound Beach Club team and are confident that his extensive experience in the private Club environment will only enhance the level of service and quality the Beach Club has become known for.
