The Choir of Christ Church St Laurence The Choir is one of the oldest continuing choral groups in Australia and was founded shortly after the consecration of the church in 1845. It performs an extensive repertoire spanning over a thousand years, incorporating music from Gregorian chant of the 10th century through to the works of 21st century composers, with a special emphasis on performing music from the polyphonic schools of the 16th & 17th centuries. The Choir sings every Sunday at the 10.30am High Mass and again at the 6.30pm Evensong which uses the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Special music is also provided for all major festivals and feasts throughout the church’s calendar. Apart from this commitment to liturgical worship the Choir regularly gives concerts, is frequently heard on national radio and has recorded a number of CDs. Entry to the Choir is by audition and any enquiries regarding membership should be forwarded to the Director of Music.

Friends of the Choir ‘The Friends’, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009, provides support and encouragement for the Choir’s many activities. Over one hundred and fifty members world-wide currently receive the Choir’s informative newsletter ‘Canticum Novum’. Social activities each year enable the Choir to meet its friends and vice versa. Members of ‘The Friends’ are always welcome to accompany the Choir on its concert tours. The time, skills and finances graciously provided by ‘The Friends’ enable the Choir to grow with strength and to continue the musical heritage at Christ Church St Laurence. Friends membership enquires can be directed to the choir manager, Craig Johnston (02 9212 7776); c.johnston@ccsl.org.au or mailed c/o the Choir. The Choir of Christ Church St Laurence
