SENTENCE O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Blessed be the Holy Trinity and undivided unity: we will give glory to Him, because his mercy endures forever.

COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace by the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversaries, for you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

FIRST Reading

Exodus 34.1-8 The Lord said to Moses, ‘Cut two tablets of stone like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets, which you broke. Be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai and present yourself there to me, on the top of the mountain. No one shall come up with you, and do not let anyone be seen throughout all the mountain; and do not let flocks or herds graze in front of that mountain.’ So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the former ones; and he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tablets of stone. The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name,

‘The Lord.’ The Lord passed before him, and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, yet by no means clearing the guilty, but visiting the iniquity of the parents upon the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.’ And Moses quickly bowed his head towards the earth, and worshipped. For the word of the Lord, Thanks be to God. Verses of the psalm are read alternately by a single reader and the congregation. A pause is observed at the colon for reflection. At Solemn High Mass, the choir sings the psalm.

Song of Three 1. Blessed are you, the God of our forebears: Worthy to be praised and exalted for ever. 2. Blessed is your holy and glorious name: worthy to be praised and exalted for ever. 3. Blessed are you, glorious in your holy temple: worthy to be praised and exalted for ever. 4. Blessed are you who behold the depths: worthy to be praised and exalted for ever.

Mass Readings 5. Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom: worthy to be praised and exalted for ever. 6. Blessed are you in the heights of heaven: worthy to be praised and exalted for ever.

Second reading

2 Corinthians 13.11-13 Brothers and sisters, put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. For the word of the Lord, Thanks be to God.

Gospel

Matthew 28. 16-20 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ. The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

As truly as God is our Father William Mathias (1934-1992) As truly as God is our Father, so just as truly is he our Mother. In our Father, God Almighty, we have our being; In our merciful Mother we are remade and restored. Our fragmented lives are knit together. And by giving and yielding ourselves, through grace, To the Holy Spirit we are made whole. It is I, the strength and goodness of Fatherhood. It is I, the wisdom of Motherhood. It is I, the light and grace of holy love. It is I, the Trinity. I am the sovereign goodness in all things. It is I who teach you to love. It is I who teach you to desire. It is I who am the reward of all true desiring. All shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well. Amen. from the collected writings of Julian of Norwich (1342-1416)
