Supporting an education for life Annual Giving 2016

Supporting an education for life From humble beginnings in 1914, St Leonard’s College has grown to become the choice of more parents than any other school in the Bayside region. Our reputation for providing an exemplary, innovative education flourishes due to the generous support of generations past and present. Indeed, a hallmark of our community has always been that current and future students are supported by those who have gone before them. We are most grateful for the generosity of our community, which has always given freely of its time, talents and finances to ensure the opportunities afforded by a St Leonard’s education can be enjoyed by generations to come. Our Foundation, through its various projects, seeks to build on this culture of philanthropy to secure the future prosperity of the College, and the success of our students into the next 100 years and beyond. We are ever mindful of the need to develop the financial resources to fulfil our promise to provide the facilities, programs and opportunities necessary to enable young people to make meaningful contributions to society once they leave our care. In 2015 we asked our community to support a range of projects by contributing to our inaugural Annual Giving Appeal. In 2016 we are seeking to build on these successes, and again encourage you to consider making a contribution, either to one of the specific projects outlined in the pages of this brochure, or more generally to the Foundation Fund. All those who support the Annual Giving will be recognised in Network magazine. I do hope you will join me in supporting our Annual Giving Appeal 2016.

Learning Futures Library In the 21st Century school libraries need to re-engineer themselves to meet the changing demands of students and educational settings. No longer merely repositories of information artefacts, modern libraries need to become flexible, dynamic learning environments. We are now well advanced in our plans to relocate and reimagine the Cornish Resource Centre (CRC), which will move to the ground floor of the Middle School building. Based on extensive research on the emergence of 21st Century libraries in Australia and overseas, the new CRC will feature distinct spaces for independent study, wide reading and collaborative work, as well as retaining the breadth of the current library collection. All this in a modern, modular and technology rich environment. Drama Theatre The development of a vibrant, purpose built drama and theatre hub will enhance student learning and performance opportunities. The newly designed black-box studios will provide spacious learning areas to explore a dynamic range of physical skills, ensemble building and dance. Built to include a lighting rig, sound desk, mirrors and costume store, the working spaces will allow hands-on stagecraft experience and flexible performance venues. The TCW Theatre upgrade will provide a state-of-the art performance venue, and the new foyer will be an impressive entry point to all of our theatre productions, also doubling as a classroom space which opens up onto a tiered outdoor amphitheatre.

Year 9 Centre Our year 9 program provides students with a rich and engaging experience in their final years of Middle School. It is anchored by the CUE program (Community Service, Urban Exploration and Environmental Sustainability), which offers pastorally-lead and academically-informed experiences and activities to enhance students understanding of their local, regional and global community. Our new Year 9 Centre will house state-of-the-art collaborative learning and pastoral spaces, with a range of learning areas including standing desks, boardroom tables, small screening areas and tiered bench seating. The space will primarily be used for pastoral sessions, collaborative learning/team teaching and elements of the CUE academic program.
