DEB BYERS, RN JRMC WOUND CLINIC
For Luke Kramer of Central City, November 30, 2013 was a turning point in his life. He was involved in a farming accident while he was helping with the harvest on his family farm; he slipped and got his leg caught in the head of the combine. “I was pinched in there, my dad reversed it and I got out,” says Luke. After an ambulance ride, several surgeries and over 10 days at larger hospitals, his experience at Jones Regional Medical Center began. His first stop was at the JRMC wound clinic. Luke speaks of his caregivers and says, “Dr. Kilburg, Deb and Laura were especially helpful to me with their advice, words of wisdom and professional opinions when I had tough decisions to make. They always did their best to make it easy on me; they supported me every step of the way. Doctors in the larger hospitals were skeptical that I would ever walk normally again, let alone play football. The caregivers at Jones Regional all believed in me and helped me believe that I could walk, hunt, play football and all the rest of the things that I like to do. The scariest part was the thought of not being able to play football during my senior year.”
