About St Luke’s
S
t Luke’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people with advanced or life limiting illnesses. We aim to improve quality of life, by offering practical, emotional and spiritual support. As an independent charity all the care that we provide is free of charge. St Luke’s has over 1,100 committed volunteers who help at the Hospice, Day Hospice, Shops, Distribution Centre and in the community supporting patients and bereaved families. The skills our volunteers bring are valued, varied and vital to St Luke’s.
Can you help? Volunteering for a few hours a week can make a huge difference to the care given to our patients, their families and carers. There are many different opportunities where our volunteers can get involved. We offer training, a chance to make friends, have fun, learn new skills and do something really worthwhile. The hours that volunteers work can usually be arranged to fit in with their other commitments.
Shops and Trading We have charity shops located across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall. We also have a distribution centre in Plympton which sorts donated items and co-ordinates bag drops to houses. Our shops help to provide much needed funds to support the services we offer. We rely heavily on volunteers to staff the shops and distribution centre. So if you would like to spend some time in a pleasant environment, meet new people and really make a difference to your local community, please contact your local St Luke’s shop. Helping the Hospice Without the help of our volunteers, St Luke’s would be unable to make such a difference in improving the quality of life of our patients and their carers. Whatever your skills or experience, giving just a few hours of your time can make a real difference.
