Holiday Missions Update Wish Tree: 800 gifts were donated to the OCPS social workers to give to families in need and 150 toys were donated for the first Christmas Shop in East Winter Garden! Bags of Grace: 100 food packages that feed a family of four for four days were donated to Mollie Ray and Pineloch Elementary Schools. Coalition for the Homeless: In the spirit of evaluating our short-term relief efforts and by request of the Coalition for the Homeless we switched from doing food gift packages with one pair of socks to a care basket for the men who stay overnight in the Pavilion. Our Children and Youth Ministries, School of the Arts, and the Child Development Center collected over 500 pair of socks, 100 flipflops, and 400 regular sized toiletry items toward this cause. COMMIT CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Hear the latest on the Commit Campaign on January 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. During this time together we will report the outcomes of the Commit Campaign and discuss recommendations from the Church Council. What's up with worship? The Christ Scene Investigation (C.S.I.) begins TODAY! Be a part of discovering the motive, uncovering evidence, being a witness and exploring the implications in this new sermon series that will have you on the edge of your seat. Start at the beginning, go beyond the caution tape, and trace the steps of God on the scene. First week on the scene: C.S.I. Christ Scene Investigation: Bring your Bible and take down some case notes. Second week on the scene: C.S.I.: Motive: Now that you've read the case file, you are ready to establish the motive. Why is God on the scene?
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. INTERFAITH MLK SERVICE JANUARY 12, 2014: Gather at Orlando City Hall at 5:30 p.m. for a brief ceremony followed by a candlelight procession to nearby First United Methodist Church at 142 E Jackson St. for a one-hour interfaith, multi-cultural celebration. The event will conclude by 7:30 p.m. “42” MOVIE NIGHT: The film "42" depicts the life of Jackie Robinson and the racial integration of Major League Baseball. To kick off Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. weekend, join us Friday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Attic of Building C for this movie, snacks, and dialog afterward. MLK CELEBRATION IN WINTER GARDEN ON JANUARY 18: Live entertainment, vendors and children's activities. In Dr. King's honor, a community march will travel from East Bay Street to the Mildred Dixon Center, 309 S. Serve Within Our Community CITRUS TREES AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR GLEANING: Participate in Central Florida’s Annual Citrus Harvest (in partnership with Society of St. Andrew) on Saturday, January 11. BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTY: This research-based training addresses how social class affects people, the hidden rules of class, and how to build relationships across socioeconomic lines. Bridges is a required training for all people wishing to serve as Circles Allies in East Winter Garden, but it is open to anyone interested in learning about poverty, social class and building relationships. The first four hours of this eight-hour training will be available on Saturday, January 25 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in Building C Room 200-202.
