Our culture defines the church according to a building or the hour of 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning, but what if you could find a community of people who believed church was a catalyst for change? What if Church was more about working together to make a difference in our community rather than just meeting together for an hour a week? As a congregation we value Christ-centered love lived out in acceptance, hospitality, community, discipleship and service. We long for everyone to experience the Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors of God’s Church. If you’re a St. Luke’s member or attend regularly we hope you’ll “Simply Invite” your friends to join you for worship and experience who we are as a Church for themselves. We also offer a free nursery in Building A for babies who are at least six weeks old. A Cluster Group is made up of 20 or more people who have a common interest, life stage or neighborhood. These people gather together once a month around that interest and create an accepting Christ-like community where everyone is cared for and everyone gets connected with the ministries of St. Luke’s. If you would like to start a Cluster Group you will find a table in the welcome hall with people and information to help you get started. DO YOU HOMESCHOOL YOUR CHILDREN?: We are in the beginning stages of developing a Homeschool Cluster Group. Our first gathering with both parent(s) and children will be held on Wednesday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rotunda, Building C with BYO lunch to follow. Children's Ministries will have activities for the kids and Pastor Jad will meet with the adults. NEXGEN MINISTRIES: Ohana means family in Hawaiian. Ohana is a new ministry opportunity on Sunday nights for middle school and high school students and their families. Ohana will be a fun evening for families to participate in board games, video games and sport games while listening to worship music from the student band. SPECIAL NEEDS MUSIC THERAPY: Group and private music therapy sessions are being offered through the St. Luke’s School of the Arts. Led by board-certified music therapist Treva Collins, sessions utilize singing, moving, listening and instrumental exploration to help students improve emotional well-being along with social, communication and cognitive skills. PASTOR BILL’S ANNUAL “JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE” HOLY LAND TOUR: Scheduled for May 15, 2013 for 12 days. This year’s optional extension tour is 6 days spent in Jordan and Egypt visiting Mt. BECOME A ST. LUKER...TAKE THE FIRST STEPS Many people ask how to get connected at St. Luke's, how to learn more about being a disciple and what it takes to be a member. We want to make sure people really know who we are as St. Luke's and as United Methodists as well as how and why we worship, connect, grow and serve in the ways we do! We have developed an entirely new FIRST STEPS PROCESS to learn about Christianity, the Bible, United Methodism and St. Luke's. Step 1: Attend a Welcome Gathering The next gathering will be held Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Step 2: Attend Four Learn Classes Each class is one month long. If you are new or returning to church we invite you to take all four classes. If you are transferring from another church where you have been active, we invite you to take the two classes on United Methodism and St. Luke's 101. Step 3: Attend the Decide Class This one month class will be held four times a year and will be taught by St. Luke's Leadership. We will concentrate on the spiritual disciplines, how we read the Bible , stewardship and missions. At the end of this class you will have the opportunity to consider joining the church and becoming a member on one of our Membership Celebration Sundays. JOBS PARTNERSHIP NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: The Jobs Partnership is committed to helping under/ unemployed persons find meaningful, stable employment. Ten people who are comfortable leading small group discussions are needed to lead groups from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday nights at the Callahan Center. This can be done by one person for all 12 weeks or it can be a shared responsibility between 2 or 3 people. Training is available on January 22. Volunteers are also needed to serve as Job Counselors on Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at HD Supply (near Arena). PRAYERS FOR CUBA TEAM DEPARTING: Our team departs TODAY for Cuba to visit our sister church in Melones. A ONE TIME SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: The Parent Empowerment team of Educational IMPACT is organizing a Community Resource Event on Wednesday, January 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Mollie Ray Elementary School. DIGNITY SERVES TRAINING: This nine-hour training is especially helpful for those serving through Educational IMPACT, Family Promise, Jobs Partnership, Habitat, and FREE. FAITH RE-ENTRY ENTERPRISE (FREE) NEEDS A CLIENT COORDINATOR: The Client Coordinator volunteer serves as liaison for released offenders and reviews the status and needs of the client prior to release/maintain communication after release. MISSIONS MINISTRY SEEKING DIRECTOR OF FAMILY STABILIZATION: This part-time position will work as the liaison between St. Luke's and the Circle Campaign. Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends as well as mandatory training from February 19-23 in Pensacola. Candidates should be organized, able to work without daily supervision, have leadership ability, recruitment skills, social services knowledge, cross-cultural experience, and be an excellent communicator. Formal education and experience in case management or human services is a plus.
