WORSHIP Worship

What's up with worship?

Prelude “Sonate IV in Bb - Allegretto” John R. Mason III, organ

Gathering for Worship Choral Introit Honk If You Love Jesus! Beyond Bumper Sticker Faith You can be a “bumper sticker Christian” but to be a disciple you have to move beyond. This series will take us on a journey through all of the expectations that we put on top of our faith and the cross. We will reflect on the pomp and circumstance, the way we think things should be, and who/what we put our faith in instead of Jesus Christ. We will examine what being a true follower of Christ looks like and sounds like as we move beyond bumper sticker faith.

UNEWS Lenten Offering LENTEN OFFERING SUPPORTS LOCAL, STATE AND GLOBAL MINISTRIES: Advocacy Organizations: These organizations improve access to resources, raise awareness on the root causes of poverty and address systemic issues keeping people in poverty. Bread for the World helps reduce global hunger. Florida Impact is the lead organization for the Partnership to End Childhood hunger for the state. Faith in Florida builds a multicultural nonpartisan network of congregation community organizations that will address systemic racial and economic issues that cause poverty. Global Mission Partners: St. Luke’s has four active global mission partners in Melones, Cuba; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Florida City, Florida. This offering supports special and occasional needs not covered through the Missions budget. Such needs include training opportunities for leaders of our partner churches and projects which require matching funds. Local Community Organizations: Your funds support efforts like the OCPS Social Work Emergency Fund allowing our school social workers to assist families of students with needs like glasses, a refrigerator, or a bicycle. Society of St. Andrew coordinates gleaning of fruit and vegetables left in groves and fields that is donated to food banks and local hunger organizations. Consider giving $1-$2 a day during Lent to serve others. Write “Lenten Offering” in the memo line of your check or on the offering envelope or give online at st.lukes.org/give.

Prayer Labyrinth The prayer labyrinth is an ancient practice of the early church that has re-emerged in recent times. It is a contemplative space intended for personal spiritual reflection as one walks the maze of the labyrinth. St. Luke’s prayer labyrinth will be available in the Attic of Building C Sunday, March 29 through Friday, April 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Holy Saturday, April 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for persons to come and reflect, pray and walk throughout Holy Week. A garden surrounds the labyrinth and will reflect the Lenten sermon series. Children are welcome to experience the labyrinth with their families. We ask that parents stay with their children in the quiet and meditative space in order to maintain the reflective atmosphere for everyone.

FINANCIAL UPDATE Pledged vs. Budget (as of 3/11/15)

Total Pledged Amount

Total Ministry Need*

This graph shows the 2015 total pledged amount versus anticipated ministry need *minus expected other income of $600,000. Expected other income includes but is not limited to receipts from ministries such as St. Luke's School of the Arts, Counseling Center, Child Development Center, sports and vacation Bible school. Our goal for 2015 is that 100% of the congregation turns in a pledge card. We currently have 431 pledges out of a possible 1500. The more pledge cards we receive, the better we can forecast for the 2015 budget. Pick up a pledge card in the campus brochure racks, the church office, or at st.lukes.org/ stewardship and turn in your card TODAY. Place it in the offering plate, drop it by the church office, mail it, or email it to Kelly Smith at ksmith@st.lukes.org. Ensure your giving continues even when you cannot be in worship by giving online at st.lukes.org/give.
