WORSHIP What's up with worship? We have begun the new sermon series “St. Luke’s Celebrates.” This season is all about celebrating and rejoicing in the gift of new life happening all around us. Help us lift up the diverse and unique individuals within our congregation and our community. Each week we will honor a different group of people (i.e. children, women, men, students), hear some of their stories, and find ways we can connect and grow together through St. Luke’s ministries. Baptism by Immersion Next Sunday, May 18 St. Luke’s will "Celebrate U" with a unique Baptism by Immersion service. This service is open to all children, youth and adults who would like to be baptized for the first time or who would like to participate in this special experience to reaffirm their baptism. UNEWS Welcome to the new UNEWS section of your worship guide! Each week we will highlight events, inspiring stories from St. Lukers, and specific ways to worship, connect, grow and serve during this season or sermon series.
United Methodist Women This organized group of women of St. Luke's has several components that are active throughout the year. They seek to realize their own sense of purpose and commitment to God within a supportive community. To get connected contact Debbie McNary at dsmcnary@gmail.com or 407.719.1199. • UMW Board: Oversees events, the Annual Missions Bazaar, and the disbursement of the funds from the Bazaar. • Crafters and Canners: Meet throughout the year creating wonderful items for the Annual Missions Bazaar. People who participate learn new skills while sharing fellowship with others. • Circles: These groups of women meet monthly in people's homes for study and fellowship. • Events: Throughout the year UMW will host a tea, The Great Exchange, rummage sales, and occasional spiritual retreats. • Hearts to Hands crochets, knits and sews baby blankets, hats, sweaters, booties, bereavement dresses, teddy bears, and colorful pillowcases for hospitalized children and new babies as well as prayer shawls for cancer patients. The group offers a free knitting and crocheting class every Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Building B Room 204. Celebrating Women Locally and Globally As we celebrate women today, let’s lift up women in our community, our nation and the world in our prayers! Both at home and elsewhere in the world, women still face the challenges of inequality, violence and poverty. Through our ministries in Central Florida, we come across grandmothers who are the only ones left to care for grandchildren with limited resources and support. The plight of women in extreme poverty in developing countries is still a huge problem. In the face of poverty, violence and disaster, women and children are the most vulnerable groups. And yet, women are the ones who carry the most burden of picking up the pieces to rebuild families and communities.

SAVE THE DATE: Mark your calendars for our big “St. Luke’s Celebrates Church” event on Pentecost, Sunday, June 8, on the front field. The inflatable games (including a giant water slide), kid zone carnival, in-door board games and food trucks will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission to the event is free and you can purchase food from the food trucks or pack a picnic lunch. Join the students of West Downtown and our dedicated volunteers, who journeyed together in this 12-week job-readiness course, in an inspirational and fun graduation ceremony. Within our Church BIG FISH MUSICAL AUDITIONS: Audition for "Big Fish: A Musical of Mythical Proportions" May 19 and 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song, traditional or contemporary, that show range and sustained singing. NO rock/ pop. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided. Come prepared to learn dance combination and ladies please bring tap shoes if skilled. Connection Point Volunteers work together in an effort to welcome people with the love of Christ. The time commitment is ONLY one-half hour a month! Training is available. VBS 2014: Use your heart, talents, and imagination to serve at Vacation Bible School 2014. VBS runs from June 16 to 20 (9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.).
