The Liberty Voices to Perform Free Concert at St. Luke's The of

On Saturday, July 12 and Sunday July 13 at 7:00 p.m., the world renowned a cappella group The Liberty Voices will perform a free concert in the Sanctuary. The group has performed for five United States Presidents, has toured the country, and been featured on national television and various parades. The group will perform Americana, Folk, and Patriotic songs as well as songs from some of your favorite Disney animated movies. Tickets are free but are required. Seating is limited. The cast and crew are excited to be the very first community theater group in the country to bring the story to life since the show left Broadway. Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest! Edward's incredible larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around, most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will is determined to find the truth behind his father's epic tales. Big Fish overflows with heart and humor and is appropriate for all ages. Performances will be Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17 at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, August 21, Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 24 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale July 11. LUKE’S INVITED TO IFTAR, BREAKING OF THE FAST, AT JAMA MASJID JULY 21: Our friends at the Jama Masjid have once again invited St. Luke’s to join in the spiritual discipline of fasting during Ramadan and then breaking the fast with our Muslim friends at the Jama Masjid on Monday, July 21 at approximately 8:20 p.m. To prepare for this experience you are invited to attend “Iftar 101” on Sunday, July 20 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The Iftar and Prayer Service will be held at the Jama Masjid located at 11543 Ruby Lake Rd. GROW SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMMING FOR PRESCHOOLERS: Children: Preschool age children will journey with Peter as we all learn to grow into disciples of Jesus Christ. Stop by the Welcome Window in Building B on Sunday mornings for room assignments. SUMMER SUNDAY PROGRAMING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH: Now through August 17 at 9:30 a.m. only. Elementary: Come and enjoy psalms of thanks, trust, and peace through children’s favorite poets like Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, and Jack Pselutsky who have written current poems with a life lesson. Youth: Learn about the “Armor of God.” 5th and 6th Grade "Merge" will meet in the Attic of Building C. 7th and 8th Grade will meet in Building C Room 204-206. 9th through 12th grade students are encouraged to volunteer with middle school Sunday morning programming and then attend worship at 11:00 a.m. YOUTH GROUP: Youth Group is for grades 6-12 and meets Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Attic of Building C. Universal Studios Day: Feel the need for speed? Well come out with the youth on Friday, July 25 to ride some roller coasters. The cost of the trip is $100.00 for those without an annual pass plus the cost of food. Those with an annual pass the cost is $5.00 for transportation and parking, plus the cost of food. Youth Ministry Parent Meeting: Sunday, July 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. parents of youth should meet in the Attic of Building C to talk about the new and exciting youth program that will launch in the fall. If you have a student in 6th through 12th grade you will not want to miss this meeting. MAKING SENSE OF THE BIBLE: Join this summer Bible study and promote discussion on the Bible’s toughest questions. The cost of the book is $16.00. FAST TRACK TO MEMBERSHIP RETREAT: Thinking about becoming a member of St. Luke’s? Now there’s a fast track option for the “steps to membership” classes. This two-night/three-day retreat will take place September 5-7 at the Warren Willis Camp in Fruitland Park, FL. The sessions will cover all of the “Learn” classes in the membership process (Beginnings, Wesley Way, and St. Luke’s Here and Now). Attendees can then start the “Decide” class on-campus at St. Luke’s Sunday evening (September 7). The cost of the retreat is $75.00 and includes all class material, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. SERVE Within our Community For more information or to sign up for any of the opportunities “Within Our Community,” contact Meg England at mengland@st.lukes.org or 407.876.4991 ext. *238 24 ALLIES NEEDED FOR NEW CIRCLES CLASS: Come join us as an Ally, Circle Leader or trained volunteer as Circles makes an impact in the lives of individuals and communities! We are in particular need, right now, of more allies willing to make the commitment to walk with a family on the journey of leaving poverty. In order to meet the need for the next class of Circle Leaders, we must recruit at least 24 new Allies. All Allies are provided extensive training and make a 6-month renewable commitment to forming a relationship with their Circle Leader, the family or individual in poverty. We meet at our Circles gatherings weekly on Tuesday nights in Winter Garden to address poverty on an individual, institution, community and policy level. BACKPACKS ARE COMING: Every year, St. Luke’s donates backpacks and supplies to students in need that live within the Orange County school district. This year, our goal is to donate over 1,000 bags. There are several ways to donate this year and sales begin next Sunday, July 13 in the Welcome Hall of Building C between worship services. BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTY TRAINING: Learn an innovative approach to reduce poverty at a training created by Dr. Ruby K. Payne’s research group Aha! Process. This is a required training for anyone interested in being an Ally for Circles and recommended for those serving in school classrooms through IMPACT. SAVE THE DATE FOR HABITAT FRAMING DAY ON JULY 26: The St. Luke’s Habitat for Humanity team is in the process of building a home for the Fikes family at 555 Bethune Ave. in East Winter Garden. Framing day is Saturday, July 26 and we need your help! Exterior and interior walls will be assembled and raised.
