Liturgical Worship Announcement After piloting our 8:00 a.m. Liturgical Worship Service for just under six months, we solicited feedback from the worshipping congregation. The survey responses overwhelmingly indicated that attendees preferred our traditional style of worship. Starting Sunday, August 24 the 8:00 a.m. service will return to a traditional format.

GROW SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMMING FOR PRESCHOOLERS: In August the children will learn about being a peacemaker. Each lesson will talk about how different people in the Bible made peace with others. Happy are people who make peace, because they will be called God’s children (Matthew 5:9). TODAY AT 9:30 A.M. FAST TRACK TO MEMBERSHIP RETREAT: This two-night/three-day retreat will take place September 5-7 at the Warren Willis Camp in Fruitland Park, FL, and will cover the “Learn” classes in the membership process. Attendees can then start the “Decide” class on-campus at St. Luke’s on Sunday evening (September 7). The cost of the retreat is $75.00 and includes all class material, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. BACK TO SCHOOL FOR CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS: Educational IMPACT is ramping up for the new school year. Both Pineloch and Mollie Ray are specifically looking for volunteers to focus on reading and math in K-3rd grade. Mollie Ray is in need of 15 more volunteers. Maxey Elementary School in East Winter Garden needs 7 more classroom volunteers to meet their needs. Training is provided for these positions. ALLIES FOR NEW CIRCLES CLASS NEEDED: The next Circles class is beginning their training soon and 12 Allies (volunteers) are needed to meet weekly with individuals working to increase their assets. This 6 month commitment starts in October. Circles’ families are looking for Allies with the following skills: assisting in developing a new business plan, going back to college mid-career, and setting up a home budget. SHEPHERD’S HOPE ORIENTATION DAY: Volunteer orientation is on Tuesday, August 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Florida Hospital located at 2800 N. Orange Avenue, Room 305 in Orlando. FLORIDA CITY INTERGENERATIONAL MISSION: Everyone (any age and/or experience) can join us, Friday, August 29 to Monday, September 1. Serve our family at the Branches Florida City Community Center by helping with homework, doing service projects, and participating in worship services. This is a great first time mission experience. Cost is $75 per person or $200 per family ($60 if you drive separately). TRAINING OPPORTUNITY: On Sunday, September 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, attend an eye-opening and inspiring simulation called the Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E). Walk in the shoes of families living in poverty and learn the complexities of poverty and the barriers that keep people in poverty (upper elementary age and up). This is required for East Winter Garden volunteers and highly recommended for volunteers of Educational IMPACT, Family Promise and Jobs Partnership. FURNITURE NEEDED: The Florida United Methodist Conference is sponsoring the Young Adult Missional Movement in its pilot year. There will be three house communities throughout the Conference with one in Orlando. Two of the young adults from the Orlando community will be working as interns at St. Luke's.
