MINISTRY GUIDE • OCTOBER 18, 2015 OUR PURPOSE

“Building the Kingdom by Building Disciples”

OUR CORE VALUES

At our center is the love of Jesus Christ. We value Christ Centered: Acceptance • Hospitality • Community • Discipleship • Service

WORSHIP Worship

Today's Worship During this series we are diving into Philippians, John Wesley’s works as well as research conducted in positive psychology at Harvard. Each week there will be an action to begin to center ourselves in the spiritual disciplines of practicing joy, gratitude and kindness. Each element of happiness we encounter will give us a chance to retrain our brain and rewire our hearts to consider looking at the world through eyes of joy and hope. Pick up your copy of the "Elements of Happiness" study guide outside of either worship venue. Visit st.lukes.org/happiness to download a copy and find a study group. Continue the discussion by picking up a free "Elements of Happiness" jar full of conversation starter questions. Use the questions around the dinner table, in the car, or at the office. St. Luke's Happiness Journals are also available to help you collect your thoughts. Journals can be purchased for $5.00 in the Rotunda of Building C or in the church office.

November Sermon Series A new sermon series called "What Would Wesley Do? (WWWD) Earn. Save. Give." starts Sunday, November 1. In this series we will explore a four-week church-wide study of John Wesley's famous sermon, "The Use of Money." As the founder of the Methodist movement, John Wesley's writings were both spiritual and practical. In the "What Would Wesley Do?" sermon series we will shift our perspective on stewardship from merely raising funds to deepening one’s discipleship. Wesley offers a liberating word about financial freedom that neither demonizes the earning of money nor disparages the saving of money. We will embrace Wesley's teachings that encourage both earning and saving as a means to generous giving so that we might experience the joy of helping to build God’s kingdom.
