Irrespective of whether you are planning to embark on your first degree, transfer from another programme or return to the university, our approach allows you to study for a world-class degree in Malta, without the necessity to relocate to London. The business world is experiencing rapid technological growth and shifting global forces with the East growing in its importance, businesses in every sector are looking for new strategies to adapt and evolve to these new scenarios. Managers and entrepreneurs are required to critically assess large amounts of information, structure and solve problems, as well as draw on a variety of academic disciplines to inform their decisions.
BSC (HONS) BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT The BSc (Hons) Business and Management programme empowers you to examine contemporary business issues analytically and critically. You will learn how to question and evaluate information, develop informed arguments, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders. This three year programme provides the academic span and rigour that provide the skills and competences that are increasingly sought after by employers. The degree equips you with a rich, dynamic understanding of international management topics and prepares you for the demands of a rapidly evolving business landscape. As a student, you will be able to: • develop practical problem-solving skills by applying theoretical models to real world scenarios; • address foundational and contemporary management issues; • analyse business challenges through the lens of various social science disciplines.

Structure This programme is made up of courses equivalent to 180 ECTS (360 UK credits) read over a period of three academic years as a full time student or five academic years as an evening student. At Saint Martin’s Institute, the academic year is organised in three semesters, followed by semester examinations, with Christmas and Easter recesses in between. The following show the course sequence for a three-year completion timeline (these are subject to change at the discretion of the Institute).
Year One Management and the Modern Corporation SMb10056 This course introduces students to the foundational concepts of modern management theory. Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship SMb10060 This course is one of the core study units that introduces the principles behind founding a business in Malta. Leadership in the 21st Century SMb10062 This course aims to introduce students to the key issues and concerns of leadership and leadership studies. Quantitative Methods SMb10067 This course will provide students with the mathematical tools to enable the study of economics and management.
Basics of Strategic Business Analysis and Decision Making SMb10070 This course will enable students to understand the dynamics of the business world and identify the strategic thinking behind the most successful companies. Accounting Principles and Practice SMb10071 This course aims to help aspiring entrepreneurs to learn and grasp the basic accounting and finance tools required to start up a business.

Applied Statistics for Business SMb10068 This course will provide students with a tool kit of skills necessary to conduct proper market research.
Year Two Introduction to Economics SMb10051 This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of economic analysis and reasoning. It is the course upon which subsequent, more specialised economics courses are based. Core Management Concepts SMb21100 This course covers the main areas of general management and the intellectual foundations of management concepts. It is the basis upon which more specialised functional management courses can be taken.

Entrepreneurship SMb30226 This course is about entrepreneurship both from an economics and practitioners angle and shows how economics can contribute to our understanding of entrepreneurship. The course also sheds light on the societal impact of entrepreneurship and its utility for economic development. It further provides practical elements such as developing business models, designing market research frameworks, product development cycles, and raising seed capital. Marketing Management SMb31208 This course will enable students to gain a broad understanding of the theoretical and practical issues surrounding marketing decision making.
Year Three Principles of Corporate Finance SMb21123 This is a microeconomics course but it is less theoretical than a microeconomic principles course and more attention is given to topics which are relevant to managerial decision making. Management Accounting SMb21127 This course identifies the importance of cost management in organisations, providing the tools by which managers will control the expenses of the firm. The Law of Business Organisations SMb30200 This course provides an insight into business organisations (including formation and effect), and their operations and management.
Management and Innovation of eBusiness SMc30394 This course highlights the importance of business process reengineering to make use of ICT in building innovative and effective business models.

Human Resource Management SMb30203 This course is about Human Resource Management (HRM) strategies, policies and practices. It examines the approach taken by commercial firms and other organisations to recruit, retain and motivate their employees.

Admissions Our students possess varying levels of academic and professional experience. Some students are pursuing their first undergraduate degree and preparing to enter the workforce. Some are seeking to update their skills with an additional degree or embark on a new learning opportunity after beginning their studies elsewhere. Others are returning to university after accruing valuable work experience.

We encourage applications from prospective students who are curious about the world around them and eager to apply their knowledge in ways that promote positive social change. Our admissions criteria help us determine whether your academic background is in line with our institutional standards.
Entrance Requirements If you are age 20 or younger, you must have passed qualifications that satisfy the General Entrance Requirements as noted below: • equivalent to 3 UK GCE A-levels in nonoverlapping subjects where grade EED or above is achieved or; • international equivalents to the above requirements will be considered and the decision taken at the discretion of SMI or; • one year of university credits (60 ECTS or 120 UK credits or 30 US credits).
If you are 21 years and over, you may qualify under our maturity criteria: • 1 UK GCE A-level at grade C or above or equivalent, or; • international equivalents to the above requirements will be considered and the decision taken at the discretion of SMI, or • an acceptable equivalent (20 US university credits or 30 ECTS or 60 UK credits). • work experience may also be taken in to consideration in lieu of or in conjunction with academic requirements. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age by the registration deadline. Our Admissions Panel will consider each application on its own merits, and assess whether your other credentials or work experience qualify you for entry. Thus, you may still be eligible for admission should you not meet the above criteria.
Mathematics Requirements You are required to demonstrate competence in Mathematics and as a minimum must possess at least a UK GCSELevel at Grade C or above or equivalent.
English Language Requirements You are required to demonstrate proof of competence in English, such as a recognised test of proficiency, which is acceptable to the Institute. We normally accept IELTS with an overall grade of 5.0.
In-Person Examinations Assessment of your academic work includes examinations, which are conducted in person in Malta or in any of the 500 approved centres around the world. You need to pay the University examination entry fee, in addition to an annual examination centre fee which varies depending on location. Application Requirements To be considered for admission, you must submit a completed Application Form together with the following documentation and settle the one-time non-refundable fee of €125.00: Complete / Incomplete Post-school Certificates or Transcripts We need to see evidence of the relevant qualifications before we can process your application. Option 1 Arrange for the awarding/examining authority to send us a statement or transcript of your results. The statement/transcript should include your name, date of birth and University of London student reference number (if available). Option 2 Have your original documents verified by an official authority, business or organisation. Verification means that your original document has been seen and a photocopy has been stamped and signed to be a true copy of the original. We may ask for further evidence after you have submitted your application. • Personal Statement Your personal statement (100–250 words) at the end of the form should indicate your reasons for wanting to pursue this programme. Please include details about your education, work experience and current responsibilities. • Evidence of your full name and date of birth You need to provide a copy of your passport or national identification card or driving license.
The fees ahead relate to students registering for academic year 2021-2022. These fees are subject to annual review and may be increased by up to 5% every year. You may also need to budget for textbooks (which could amount to around €400 per year) and exam centre fees. Please note: For students resident in Malta, our fees and those of the University of London are exempt from VAT.

An administration charge of €1500 per annum will apply for non-EU students without Schengen resident permit.
The Institute offers the opportunity to EU students to pay the annual tuition fees on a monthly basis, payable by the 10th of each month in advance. The fees quoted on this page are subject to annual review by the Institute. Students who resign following the start of the programme will incur a penalty of 25% of the EU tuition fee due for a single academic year, which will be decreased by the value of payments offered up to date of resignation. Students who default in two monthly payments will need to effect payment via direct debit and incur any additional administrative fees in doing so. Students opting to read for the University of London degree are required to settle the respective University of London registration and examination fees separately and directly with the University. These fees may be attained through the University’s own website http://www.london.ac.uk/fees.

The BOV Studies Plus+ loan offers students a maximum of 5 years interest and repayment free financing to meet institute fees, and other study-related costs. The loan is repayable after graduation.
Stipend & Maintenance Grant* The Government of Malta offers full-time students monthly stipend and grants payable under the Malta Government Undergraduate Scheme (MGUS). For EU students who have been residents of Malta for the previous five years. This also applies to full information check the MGUS website: https://education.gov.mt/en/studentsgrants/
Get Qualified Scheme* The Get Qualified Scheme will reimburse a maximum of 70% of the total fees paid over a period of ten years upon successful completion through income tax credit, applicable to both MQF Level 5 and MQF Level 6. The scheme applies to both EU and third country students and is conditional on the student being employed in Malta after graduation. Parents who are employed and pay income tax in Malta are able to benefit from this tax rebate scheme instead of their child if they are paying the tuition fees on behalf of their children.

In addition to the fees payable to the Institute, the student needs to budget for the cost of textbooks (SMI provides guidebooks but students are encouraged to purchase other reference textbooks) and a laptop/computer with internet access.
Evening Students Students who wish to read for a degree as an evening student while keeping a full time job must be an EU citizen or have freedom of movement in Malta, and be over 20 years old. Specific rules for the classification of awards are given in the Programme Regulations, under Scheme of Award.
• Award Certificate
The Final Diploma indicates that you were registered with the University of London and awarded a University of London degree.
• Diploma Supplement Undergraduate degrees of the University of London are awarded with Honours. Your final award certificate will include the classification of the degree you have achieved, based on the marks you are awarded for all completed assessments. The standard classification system for undergraduate degrees with Honours is: • First Class • Upper Second Class • Lower Second Class 18
• Third Class • A Pass Degree or Ordinary Degree is a degree without Honours.
• Gives the name of LSE as the Member Institution that developed the syllabus and provided assessment. • Features the University of London crest and the Vice Chancellor’s signature. The Diploma Supplement describes the nature, level and content of the programme you successfully completed and includes the transcript of courses taken, marks achieved and overall classification. It also states the role of LSE and the method of study. The University of London and LSE are highly respected by employers, rankings authorities and academic communities around the world
