STMARTINS.EDU/COMPUTING

TOTAL CREDITS: 7ECTS

Having addressed the fundamental ideas behind the design of electronic and non-electronic games in Game Design I: Conceptual Game Design and Game Design II: Interaction and Balance Design, this unit covers the practical aspects of game design, such as spatial and task design and their integration together with visual and audio assets. The unit draws reference from real world architecture theory and harmonises the game’s mission with the game’s spaces. This is a unit most intrinsic to games themselves and is therefore in some ways the heart of the curriculum framework we outline here. Contents include: World and Spatial Design; Content Design; Task Design; Design Integration. At the end of this unit the student will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: — analyse gameplay spaces; — build gameplay from within a story and setting; — match level design to game goals. The assessment for this unit will be computed using the following weighting system: — 70% Assessed Coursework — 30% Examinations
