This unit follows SMc10301: Introduction to Data Communications, building upon the introductory concepts in data communications. It provides learners with a broad overview of the different technologies used in large scale networks and enterprise networking. The unit looks at the devices and protocols used in high-end systems along with concepts and considerations that are important in maintaining such systems in terms of their security, performance, availability and reliability. At the end of this unit the student will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: — analyse and make informed choices among the competing technologies; — design simple enterprise networks that meet the requirements specified; — make the right decisions towards designing an enterprise network; — manage a large scale or enterprise network. The assessment for this unit will be computed using the following weighting system: — 30% Assessed Coursework — 70% Examinations
