The unit aims to cover the most important concepts, including intelligent agents and rationality, introduction to basic search algorithms, logic representation and knowledge bases, reasoning patterns, machine learning and natural language processing. It briefly explains these subfields and introduces simple algorithms that make a computer system learn from the given set of data and/or exhibit some form of intelligence. At the end of this unit the student will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: — analyse the requirements of a given problem and formulate its solution in terms of agents, environment and search; — build the knowledge base to support the given problem ; — apply simple machine learning techniques to solve practical problems; — apply simple natural language processing techniques to practical problems. The assessment for this unit will be computed using the following weighting system: — 30% Assessed Coursework — 70% Examinations
