The main aim for developing this unit is to develop a sophisticated understanding of the political and moral issues associated with the development and use of information technology in society. With the advent of social media and the voluntary transfer of personal information onto the cloud, it is important that learners are: At the end of this unit the student will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: — develop a strategy to protect privacy as well as decide the legitimate basis for limiting individual privacy; — develop ethically strong systems with the necessary proviso for machine learning responsibility checks; — take the necessary precautions to protect intellectual property; — identify ways how to prevent and whenever this is not possible, minimize the opportunities for criminal activity via information systems. The assessment for this unit will be computed using the following weighting system: — 30% Assessed Coursework — 70% Examinations
