This unit aims to give students more background into security concepts related to different wireless technologies. At the end of this unit the student will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: — recognise the different types of wireless networks such as WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular and satellite networks; — recognise the architecture of wireless networks; — recognise different technologies in wireless security; — understand security issues and concerns in wireless networks; — recognise relevant standards on wireless technologies such as the IEEE802.11; — understand common attacks on wireless networks and ways of counteracting these; — understand encryption standards in wireless systems, namely, WEP and WPA; — discuss strategies in securing wireless networks; — discuss risk mitigation in such networks; — discuss future trends in the field. The assessment for this unit will be computed using the following weighting system: — 30% Assessed Coursework — 70% Examinations
