Dear St. Mary’s Community The 2019-2020 school year was unlike any other year at St. Mary’s. In the fall, our campus was buzzing with activity, enthusiasm, students, faculty and more.

Parents graciously volunteered at record pace and school events served as positive reminders of the strength and uniqueness of our Falcon community.

Our St. Mary’s Fund saw an overwhelming response and many of our programs were enhanced because of your generous donations.

Then in early spring, everything changed. We could no longer gather in-person and experience St. Mary’s the way we all cherish. Because of this, our faculty and staff pivoted to an entirely new way of teaching and running a school.

Simultaneously, our parents and students shifted to a new way of learning outside of the classroom. Daily, we all experienced trials and new obstacles to conquer. As I reflect back, our school has come so far. Every faculty and staff member acquired new skills and methods we never thought possible.

We have met challenges with solutions and not only did we jump into the pit, we successfully got out of it.

Our community began this school year in a completely different way than 2019-2020. To learn, we have to look back, but to achieve our goals and dreams for St. Mary’s, we must move forward and embrace our realities. While there is so much new, one thing remains the same: our collective commitment to cultivating our students’ world-sized hearts and world-class minds.

It’s because of your support, we are able to successfully continue to adapt to our environment. Your contributions — financial or your time — whether at the Golf Classic or Jog-a-Thon — supports our programs that affect every child at St. Mary’s. From our PTF parents to the St. Mary’s Fund committee, all of your school spirit and fundraising efforts are necessary for us to provide an extraordinary St. Mary’s education. Thank you for continuing to not only support, but invest in our students, faculty, curriculum and campus. We are grateful for your kindness and generosity.

Community Cultivates World-Sized Hearts and World-Class Minds Throughout the years, our entire community has benefited from the generosity of others.

From a capital campaign, like Imagine More to our annual Gala Fund-a-Need programs, our community has supported the needs and dreams of St. Mary’s. We are so grateful and fortunate to have those who have come before us, and those here today, make an impact and enhance the learning of our current student body.

What does it take to develop students’ worldsized hearts and world-class minds? We believe service is a key component of our mission.

We want our students to develop a mindset that inspires them to connect and engage with our local and global community. Throughout a St. Mary’s education, students will experience a diverse array of issues affecting people and the planet. Students are challenged to ask “how” can I get involved and make a difference? We want our students to not only be service-minded, but have a deep respect for humanity and the world in which they live.

Supporting the school financially is our opportunity to partner with St. Mary’s, actively participate in its mission, vision and values and show the faculty and staff that what they are doing matters because they are making a profound difference in the lives of our kids every day.”

The impact our community has had on our school is everywhere and truly makes a difference in your child’s education. When our faculty are empowered and innovative that carries over to your children. This past spring, 80 of our faculty physically stepped out of the classroom and into a new one: remote learning. Because of your support, as we approached the start of the new school year, we were able to extensively train our faculty to feel confident and knowledgeable in a variety of learning environments.

“St. Mary’s professional development program has always provided a wonderful opportunity to improve our programs, and this year more than ever, we learned new ways of teaching in a pandemic. For example, the “Flipped Learning” training enabled me to enhance my teaching skills and better improve my curriculum planning to face the challenges of remote and computer-based learning.

Teaching in 2020 is a new, reinvented profession! This impacts me for more than I could imagine. I feel better equipped and prepared to do what I love best: be there for my students in a creative format. Thank you for the gift of learning and excellence.

Your thoughtfulness and generosity too, models the importance of service. Conviction and service-mindedness affects your children and leaves a legacy for future generations. Every day our parents show service – whether chairing a committee, soliciting funds or volunteering as a room parent – that is critical for our students to understand that service and action are needed and vital.
