20% cheaper in 2022! Where else do you get this in a year of hyperinflation?

As we put the finishing touches to this year's yodel, the team at Switzerland Tourism is about to embark on a trip to Geneva. We love Geneva's urban vibe in close proximity to nature. Many of the wonderful hotels and restaurants are situated at the shore of the lake, overlooking not only the iconic 'Jet d-Eau 'fountain in the lake but also the stunning Alps. The old town is the heart and soul of the city with the most enticing shops. The many parks, quays, lakeside promenades, and lively side streets invite guests to stroll. Swiss cities never fail to impress visitors with their scope. Nowhere are attractions, cultural centers, innovative gastronomy, remnants of medieval times, and, believe it or not, quite a happening nightlife in such proximity to nature. Explore the lakes and mountains of Switzerland during the day and return at night to the charm and authenticity of our boutique towns. Of course, the short distances make it easy to explore all of Switzerland from one base. But the Swiss Travel Pass, our allin-one ticket for trains, buses, and boats, really invites you the explore all of the country hop-on-hop-off style. Not only does it give you unlimited travel on Switzerland's public transport system, but the Swiss Travel Pass also got on average

But I digressed. We are going to Geneva, I said. The entire workforce of Switzerland Tourism worldwide will come together for the first time since the start of the pandemic. As Switzerland is open to fully vaccinated visitors from all over the world, this is now possible again. A lot has changed since we last met, and we can't wait to meet the many new people who joined our workforce at a time when we could not come together. One of them is our very own new District Manager at the West Coast, Oliver Guggisberg. He has joined us from our office in Singapore in August last year and is responsible for all our trade relations at the West Coast. So you will be seeing a lot more of him in the coming month and he looks forward to hearing from you if we can assist. We thank you for being such great supporters of Switzerland and wish you all a successful year. See you soon in Switzerland.

Sustainable Switzerland. We are living in the age of sustainability, and the pandemic has increased our desire for authenticity, proximity to nature and considerate consumption. Switzerland has always taken care to strike a balance between the needs of our guests, the needs of the local population, and the needs of the environment. MySwitzerland.com/swisstainable

"Swisstainable" — the Swiss way to travel sustainably Sustainability has been an integral part of corporate management for many Swiss tourism businesses for years. Our sustainability program "Swisstainable" gives a face to these long-standing efforts and motivates more service providers to make their contribution to a more sustainable Swiss tourism. Swisstainable means caring for the environment, promoting respectful interaction, operating responsibly, and pampering guests with high-quality products and services.

Outstanding low-emission transport options Whether on rails, at sea or in the air – the transformation towards zero CO2 emissions in public transport has taken full speed. Since 2013, the Rhaetian Railway has been letting guests experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina landscape" with 100% hydroelectric power. The catamaran MobiCat, on the other hand, glides leisurely across Lake Biel on 100% solar power, and with the MNE Ceresio 1931, Switzerland has its first fully electric year-round passenger ship on Lake Lugano. Also in the air, alternative drives are attracting more and more attention. The Staubern cable car, for example, is the world's first battery-powered cable car and takes nature lovers from the Rhine Valley to Alpstein. MNE Ceresio 1931, Lake Lugano

Car-free destinations – the pioneers of slow tourism Trade exhaust fumes and traffic noise for the purest Alpine air and complete tranquility. The 11 car-free destinations in Switzerland give new meaning to the term deceleration. In these villages, travelers get around on foot, by horse-drawn carriage or even by electric cab. The sunny high plateau of Stoos, for example, is reached by the steepest funicular in the world and offers breathtaking views of Lake Lucerne. Not completely traffic-free but emission-free is Zermatt, located at the foot of the unmistakable Matterhorn. Strolling through the old part of Zermatt with its centuries-old houses while surrounded by 13'000 ft / 4,000 m peaks is hard to beat. Wengen, Bernese Oberland

Switzerland's holiday magic. Did you know that Switzerland was voted to have the best Christmas market in Europe in 2021 (by the travel website “European Best Destinations”)? During the run-up to Christmas many Swiss cities are illuminated with colorful lights and the aroma of seasonal culinary specialties fill the streets. Discover Switzerland's most enchanting Christmas markets and get ready to experience moments of pure magic. Zurich (November 25 to December 23, 2022) In Zurich, there is a Christmas market to suit each and every taste – from Zurich’s oldest Christmas market in the picturesque Old Town, to the more contemporary indoor market next to the sparkling Swarovski Christmas tree at Zurich Main Train Station, to the urban “Wienachtsdorf” Christmas village on Sechseläutenplatz near Bellevue, located on the lakeside, which annually enchants visitors and locals. Around 100 stalls form a vibrant and convivial Christmas village against the spectacular backdrop of the Opera House. Sechseläutenplatz, Zürich

Montreux (November 24 to December 24, 2022) Considered one of the most fascinating in Europe, Montreux's Christmas market is distinguished by an exotic Christmas atmosphere, among the palm trees of the Riviera. For a month, the shores of the lake welcome more than 170 merchants, artisans and restaurateurs installed in illuminated chalets. An enchantment for all visitors, especially when Santa Claus flies over the Christmas village in his sleigh against the backdrop of Lake Geneva and a magical sunset.

On the shore of Lake Geneva, Montreux

Basel (November 24 to December 23, 2022) The Basel Christmas market at Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, centrally located in the heart of the festively decorated Old Town, is one of the prettiest and largest in Switzerland. Basel, crossed by the Rhine River, offers a special charm during the Christmas period. It's no coincidence that in 2021 Basel was awarded Europe’s best Christmas market! The magnificent Christmas tree on Münsterplatz is an absolute must-see, as it was adorned with unique ornaments by the renowned decorator Johann Wanner. Lake Brienz, Luzern-Interlaken Express

The Grand Train Tour of Switzerland combines all premium panoramic lines into one unique route. Spanning a total of 795 miles (1,280 kilometers), the highlights of Swiss trains can be experienced throughout the year. Travelers can start at any given point along the route – there is no prescribed direction or duration. Best of all: the tour can be experienced with one single ticket, the Swiss Travel Pass. Not only that – on most routes, holders of a Swiss Travel System ticket pay only half price.

Theme trains. Take the Cheese train (all year, except July and August), a truly singular day trip from Montreux or Zweisimmen to Château-d'Oex, and enjoy a delicious cheese fondue. Or take the Chocolate train (seasonal from May to September): This day excursion starts on the GoldenPass Line, connects with the Gruyère region, and ends with chocolate tasting at the Cailler-Nestlé chocolate factory. Cookie Train (all year): A scenic train ride that connects Bern, Lucerne and Interlaken with a visit to the Kambly Experience, a show confectionary, where secrets of the art of pastry making are revealed.
