By Bruce Hotchkiss, President of the Board of Directors As we move into November and December, the Holiday Season, the club has many fun and family-oriented events planned. Events like the Boat Parade, Breakfast with Santa, Monster Day and the Portuguese Day Tournament coming back after many years. You can see that even though the club is in Chapter 11 Reorganization, the day-to-day operations have seen little change. Once again this year, you may make a donation to the Employee Christmas Fund. This fund provides a way for our members to show their appreciation for the many long hours and hard work our staff provides us. Regarding the Annual Election of Directors and Annual Meeting of the Club. This year, because of the clubs current circumstances, the Board thought it would be unfair to ask anyone to run for the Board and be thrust into a situation without adequate knowledge of how we got to this point. At the October meeting, the Board unanimously passed a resolution in accordance with the by-laws which reads that the existing directors remain in place and continue to conduct club business pending the outcome of the bankruptcy proceedings or other orders of the court. With respect to the bankruptcy, to date, I along with Rick Schultz have attended one court proceeding in Sacramento in October and there are two more currently on the calendar for early November. We are hopeful the club can have the annual member's spaghetti dinner in early December to inform you where we stand at that time. In the meantime, the Directors are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. On behalf of the Board and myself, I want to wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday and thank you for your continued support of SGCC. Bruce Hotchkiss

Stockton Golf & Country Club FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER By Rick Schultz, General Manager

JULY/AUGUST 2021

Happy Holidays to you and your family and thank you for being a part of our SGCC family. This holiday season I am grateful for all the wonderful members I have met and the fantastic team we have built. We have truly flipped the switch on our course and clubhouse conditions and elevated our food and beverage operations; 2022 was transformational! I am so proud of how hard the entire team has worked to get SGCC back on track. My only regret these past twelve months is that we could not get a deal done with the bank. It is a shame that we have a couple of perfect buyers, that have deep emotional ties to the club, and have the means to get our club back its glory. I know in my heart, that if we, or they, could reinvest back into the club, and quash any future financial concerns, we would see people come back and join. We absolutely have the nicest amenities, so it is just a matter of eliminating the club’s uncertainty to succeed. With that said, I wish we could give you more information concerning the Chapter 11 filing but right now we are in the process of getting all our motions approved and all the proper declarations submitted. We have a motion confirmation hearing on November 1st which should be a formality and then the start of the plan confirmation will begin later in November. We are working on the final details with our legal team and will present the full plan to the entire membership once we have finalized it. While the backside of operations is still a work in progress, the front-side operations are going full steam ahead. This month, we have lots of nonmember revenue coming in and we have our Family Movie Night on November 10th and the Portuguese Day Tournament on the 11th. Chef Corey has rolled out his Thanksgiving Dinner to-go menu and has created new holiday catering menus so that you will be able to host your office or family events without all the hassle of cooking. Look for all those menus and other upcoming member events in this newsletter. Harj and his crew have the greens back in pristine shape and the course looks great. As we move into the cooler nights you will begin to see the warm-season grasses go dormant. Once that first frost of the year happens, that’s when you’ll see the brown patches really start to show. Those brown patches aren’t dead, they just go dormant for the winter. Winter is when all our cool season grasses start to take back over so those will fill in some of those brown areas over winter. Let’s just hope we get some rain and snow this season, or all of California is going to be in trouble. Thanks again, for your support of our club and let’s hope that 2023 is the turning point for SGCC!

Stockton Golf & Country Club ON THE COURSE

By "Harj" Harjindar Toor, Superintendent

Fall is an excellent season for golf. The intense summer heat has passed, and right now you can enjoy some of the best playing conditions on the course. The fall season also brings changes to the golf course; one of those changes is the return of frost delays. While this can be frustrating, it is critical not to walk or drive on frost-covered grass. This will help avoid any unnecessary damage to the turf, which may not heal until the spring of next year. Keep in mind that there may be frost on the course even if there is none on your grass at home. If you are worried about a possible frost delay, give your golf shop a call for current conditions before heading out. We may raise our mowing heights as temperatures get lower to help the grass generate and store energy for the winter. The extra leaf surface will help maintain good playability into the late fall and winter, as turf growth slows or stops. The leaves have started to fall, and the team is working hard to keep playing surfaces clear. However, it can be challenging to keep up with when thousands of leaves may fall from a single tree. Try to be understanding if you see tree debris on the putting surface or

have a hard time finding a ball that’s hiding under some leaves. Traffic control is important during fall and winter, with turf growing slower, recovery from damage is less likely. To help maintain good playing conditions, do not be surprised to see a few more ropes or traffic signs appear on the course. The seasonal changes experienced on the golf course are part of what makes this game fun and challenging. This season is also an opportunity to get some course improvement projects accomplished. One of which is to restore the shape of some of our bunkers. In the following pictures, you will see how much we have lost over the past 12 years. June 2010

Here is another example of an improvement you will see around the course and the miracle of water. This Eucalyptus tree is located between the 14th fairway and the 17th green. The before picture was taken in early 2021 and the after picture was taken in October 2022. If you look at the turf around both trees, you will notice the greener and healthier turf around the after picture. Before

Stockton Golf & Country Club TUESDAY 9 HOLE LADIES GROUP By Janet Salvetti, Secretary, Tuesday Ladies

Our group always looks forward to the Play with the Staff Day which took place on Tuesday, September 20th. Our three teams, with the participation of the Staff, had a great time on the course and may have picked up a few tips along the way! Winning the day with a net score of 20 were Laura Iacopi, Judy Green and Kathy Hanley, with the ample assistance of Matt Stewart. Placing second with staff member Greg Christy were Joyce Corrales, Joyce Drew and Janet Salvetti. Rounding out the day were Nancy Sundahl, Lindsey Kauffman, Maryann Cano, and staff member Chris Carroll. October ushered in our Tournament of Champions. Placing first, with a low gross score of 107, was Laura Iacopi. She will have the honor of having her photo on the champion's wall for the coming year. Coming in second was Francesca Vera at 113. As we moved into the middle of October and the much cooler days, the Group hosted the annual Halloween Party and Guest Day. Many thanks to Jan Morrison, Lynn Riggs and Kathy Hanley for organizing the event. I wasn’t in attendance, but I hear the food was great, the company was wonderful and fun was had by all! For the first time, we hosted our annual Buddy Tournament in early November. It seemed to work out well for us with more attendance than we have seen in the past several years. With a theme of fall harvest, the co-chairs Janet Salvetti, Joyce Drew and Joyce Corrales decked out the Founder’s Room in an abundance of fall colors and pumpkins as chef Corey prepared us a wonderful turkey dinner with all the fixings. But first, the group played a scramble format tournament and finished just as the sun was setting. And the winners are: 1st place: Joyce & Lex Corrales, Mary Ann Cano and Ray Lucas 2nd place: Lindsey & Keven Kauffman, Francesca & John Vera 3rd place: Jan& Bob Morrison, Robbie & Rich Before I close out the year, I am happy to announce that we have a very active new player in our group, Kathy Hanley. She and her husband Jim have been members for of quite some time; in fact, Jim’s father was President of the Country Club in the ’60 and his family had been members for many years. Here is a peek at our newest member, Kathy whom I will introduce to you in more detail in our next newsletter. Please say hello to her when you see her around the club! As we close out 2022 the Thursday Ladies Group wishes you all a blessed and safe holiday season!

Stockton Golf & Country Club FROM THE DESK OF HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL By Kelley Spooner, LPGA Head Golf Professional

Fall is in the air and the busy season is winding down as the days begin to get shorter. It is also the time when our hours of operation change slightly. The Golf Shop hours will be Saturday- Sunday from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm, and TuesdayFriday from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm. The driving range will close a ½ hour before sundown. The course is in great condition and we look forward to seeing you at the course enjoying your golf game. October proved to be a busy tournament time for the club with Member events and outside tournaments. We kicked off the month with the 9-Hole & 18-Hole Ladies Championship. Laura Iacopi outlasted Francesca Vera to take the 9-hole Ladies' Championship with a score of 107. A few days later BettyAnne Woods took the top prize as the 18-Hole Ladies Champion. It was a tight race between Woods, Cathy Barnes, and Marcia Stonebarger; posting 2-day total scores of 192, 193, and 194 respectively. Capturing the Net Champion was Trish Delk with a score of 145, just 3 shots ahead of Susan Filios. Way to go Ladies! Congratulations to Bill & Susan Filios for grabbing the Couples Club Championship by a stroke over the runner-up team of Jeff Heiser & Cathy Barnes. The event fielded 12 teams vying for the trophy. Next up was the Sr. Men’s Championship that crowned 6time Champion Steve Peterson with an unprecedented 7th win posting a score of 78. Taking the Low Net Champion title was Jim Dodson recording a net 73. A shout out to UOP Coach John Cook for staging another successful Visit Stockton UOP Invitational. He brought in 15 visiting teams with Grand Canyon University outlasting UC Irvine by 6 strokes with a team total of 830. Jakub Hrinda from George Washington State, captured the individual title shooting a 3-day total of 199 (-14) holding off Parker Reddig from Grand Canyon who finished with 203 (-10). Our Pacific Tigers finished T11, however, Tiger Alex Barclay playing in the event as an individual finished T-16 at 4 under par that included a 2ndround personal best 64. Shots Heard Around the Club: Cheers to Jane Butterfield for recording her 1st Hole in One on Hole #8 while playing with Jana Lane and Bonnie Brown! Awesome Jane, way to go! The leaves are falling, although the temperatures haven’t FALLEN too much. The 18-Hole Ladies ended the summer schedule with our annual Silver/Gold tournament, where the winning team is responsible for providing the goodies for the celebratory party. The Silver team came out victorious. Susan Filios graciously hosted the party at her beautiful house. A big thank you goes to Judy Seitz and Jane Butterfield for making this event so festive.

Our annual Truckee Road Trip was “smoked out”! That did not keep our ladies from getting together to PARTY! Whether it is at Donner Lake or Linden, Marcia Stonebarger is the BEST hostess. We had games, drinks, and delicious food to make our “Staycation” party a special one.

The biggest tournament of the year, our Club Championship, was held over two days. We played the gold tees one day and the combo tees the second day. Coming out on top of the competition was BETTY ANNE WOODS as our Club Champion (gross) and TRISH DELK as the handicap champion (net). Trish beat Marcia Stonebarger in a playoff on #18. The Shamble format is a fun team event and Corey makes sure that everyone goes away full and raving about his food. November will have two special tournaments: DWS is an eclectic tournament that takes place at Del Rio, Woodbridge, and you guessed it…Stockton!
