First, I want to address the recent assessment approved by the Board which is shown on your September statement Our yearly budget was in great shape up until 3 months ago when we started to see the effects of inflation. Our costs rose dramatically, such as fertilizer up 300%, our fuel costs have doubled to $44,000 and food and beverage prices have all seen increases. PG&E has also gone up from $18,000 a month to $38,000. We use the majority of our electric power to run the pumps to pull water from the channel and irrigate the golf course. The major portion of the monies recently has been spent to make the necessary improvements to the course and I believe everyone can see the difference. Thus, the major portion of the assessment will be paid by those members who use the golf course. The smaller portion paid by our Social members will cover the inflationary costs associated with the food and beverage operations and the increased utility costs to operate the clubhouse and pool area. Regarding the sale of our club. Your Board, our broker and attorney have been working diligently the past few months along with several buyers and the Bank of Stockton to try to put a deal together that would benefit everyone. Bank of Stockton has told us that the Bank of the West will not waver from receiving the full amount owed to them, thus the full hit of any write down would be taken by Bank of Stockton. They have not put any additional pressure on us to date, but we are getting our ducks in a row Your management team and Board, along with our attorney, are compiling the necessary information needed if we are forced to file for Chapter 11 REORGANIZATION I emphasize the word REORGANIZATION because that is exactly what it is The members will see no difference in the day to day operations of our club The staff will remain the same, the course and all the amenities will continue as if nothing happened The only difference is we will be asking the Bankruptcy Court to allow us to restructure our current debt We feel confident the outcome would be the continuation of SGCC as a private country club serving our members and the greater Stockton area for many years to come Thank you for your continued support of Stockton Golf & Country Club Bruce Hotchkiss

JULY/AUGUST 2021 July/August 2021 are being challenged on multiple fronts! We have been shopping for better pricing, we have cut back on labor and expenses, stopped new capital investment, and redirected some of the non member capital revenues we received from SJAFCA into operations Elisa is also working at getting one last quarter of employee tax retention credits and got a long awaited state tax refund and has been promised our federal tax refund is on the way it better be with 80,000 more IRS agents
Thanks for your support of the club, and staff, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for SGCC As with any family, we all need to lean on each other in tough times and come together to succeed so, thanks for being part of our family!
Rather than increasing the monthly dues by 5% more, they are asking that you pay an assessment of $250 for all the golfing memberships and $125 for the non golfing memberships to address our budgetary shortfall the past three months This assessment, will quickly get our cash flow in a better situation and stabilize us until our membership levels increase or inflationary costs decrease
All those measures have helped but the Board is once again asking for the membership’s help to keep our club moving in the right direction and addressing the recent inflationary increases
Those inflationary increases have been almost overwhelming but

Reading through my September 2021 newsletter article, it is amazing to think about how much has changed in a year, and how much has not A year ago, Chris, Corey and Matt had just arrived, as well as our new carts We also restarted our fitness programming with Lori and Teri Our club’s accounting and point of sale system with website integration were being rolled out We had received some of our golf course equipment, started repairing our irrigation controllers and signed the contract for the snack shack patio and cover We began painting rooms and repairing our facility with plans to do more With that in mind, the Board had also asked that you support doubling the capital dues and you overwhelmingly supported that request We had also been approved for a $430,000 PPP loan and were waiting for the check to arrive Another major change was to our water rights; by filing for our riparian claim, we saved ourselves from having to stop watering the course per state mandate thank goodness the Board was proactive on that front! The Board also formed a banking committee to work on a plan to address our burdening debt total What has not changed is that we are still waiting on construction of the solar system; hopefully, that will happen before the end of 2022! We are still painting rooms and repairing the facility and our irrigation controllers There is still one last piece of golf course equipment we are waiting on and we are still working to keep what we already had running We are also still dealing with our staffing needs in this amazingly tough labor situation Our debt situation/solution is still not figured out, although we are coming to a pivotal point for the club soon It is a battle on all fronts, every day! So much has changed but there is always more to do and refine We constantly tell ourselves to just think about improving our club each day and for Harj, just keep working on the course hole by hole, project by project If we think about the entirety of the situation, it is too overwhelming, so we focus on the daily items that will heighten your member experience and bring value to being a member I feel confident that the past year’s member events and tournaments, and improved food and beverage quality, have created more value in being a member of SGCC The past twelve months have been transformative and invigorating There seems to be more pride in membership and that has translated into our dues line increasing eleven out of twelve months While our dues line has increased, it has not been able to keep up with the insane inflationary increases we have seen over the past three months and the hourly wage rates we have to offer to attract higher skilled staff
Thankfully, our non member banquet revenue forecasts over the next two months are trending upward and our recent “Member for a Day” and “Aquatics Membership Extension” are already bringing in additional revenues We are pushing as hard as we can on our side and ask that you continue to invite your friends and family to join our club’s family The ultimate savior will be an increased dues line, but that does not happen overnight I told you last September that I did not want to do a full court membership sales campaign until we had a product worthy and I truly believe our club is now worthy of joining With that said, the only deterrent to joining for some would be the uncertainty of ownership who will be the owners in two or twelve months from now? The only thing I can say for certainty, the Board is doing everything possible to keep this a private country club and keep all the same rights and privileges you have now Foreclosure is not an option they are entertaining; they are focused on reorganizing our business model I also believe that Bank of Stockton wants SGCC to survive but is handcuffed because of Bank of the West’s refusal to take less than a full price offer and all of the FDIC restrictions and having to answer to their own shareholders With the professionals that the Board has hired, we have the best representation possible for a positive outcome

FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER By Rick Schultz, General Manager
On the waterside, we are very fortunate that the Board secured our riparian claim out of the Delta so we did not have to adhere to the state’s mandate to stop pumping water To get water our irrigation water, we have two pumps that pull from the Delta and one of them has been rebuilt and reconnected Before the other one burns out, we have sent it to be rebuilt so that once it gets installed, we should have no worries about filling our irrigation lake As an extra precaution, we are placing a secondary screen to prevent any large debris from entering the pipes before they get to the pumps As for our irrigation system, for every component we repair in the satellite controller boxes, it seems 2 or 3 more go out We are slowly making progress on repairing the controller boxes. Rather than buying new control modules, that are in the controller boxes, I have been sending them to a company in New Jersey to
With that said, aerification kicks off on September 13th so expect to see lots of holes filled with sand, seed, and fertilizers. No one likes to putt on punched and sanded greens but this process is vital to maintaining the health of the greens. We appreciate your patience during this process. Putting greens receive more traffic than any other playing surface and aeration will relieve the compaction from all that traffic. A few weeks of bumpy greens are what create a firm, smooth putting surface. Heavy application of topdressing following aeration may appear to make putting greens less playable, however, filling aeration holes with sand helps create a smoother surface That extra sand also dilutes thatch and helps putting greens recover faster by creating a passage for water and air movement
ON THE COURSE By "Harj" Harjindar Toor, Superintendent Stockton Golf & Country Club when they find an open sunny area with soft sand and good water flow, they thrive We are also addressing the large trees that shade our turf and steal water and nutrients in the roughs These trees have lots of roots that damage the mowers and can cause difficult shots for golfers To help our mowers, and your safety, we are pruning the tree roots to about 20 feet from the base of the tree without causing serious damage to the tree. Placing 24 inch root barriers will also help prevent some of the intrusion and damage. The other damage we are having on greens is from some pretty pesky gophers. We chased them off #10 green but now they have taken up home under #17 green We are working hard at trapping the gophers and will address the burrows first thing each morning Thanks for your support and I hope to see you on the course! to have them refurbished at half the price In addition, we are repairing multiple components of individual sprinkler heads Having nozzles that are not performing as they should, cause the struggling turf conditions you see with sprinkler heads sixty feet apart, having proper working nozzles is absolutely vital to get the water to shoot to where it needs to go! We are addressing the intrusion of tree roots coming through the green on #10 Trees are competing for water and nutrients, so
To say the past two months have been a struggle is an understatement! Without my core crew members, Greg, Carl, Susanna and Arnold, there is no way we could have gotten everything mown without them working extra hours. I know you’ve seen the news about us having to cut labor and expenses, but I promise we will get everything done as soon as humanly possible. The small little fine detail work is what will suffer the most, the rest of the course should stay in good shape.
Stockton Golf & Country Club Ode to Summer It’s been a really hot summer To that, no one could contest However, the Tuesday Ladies manage To still come out and do their best. I, for one, can personally attest That my scores were not the best Was it the heat or my skill It remains to be seen for me Remember to keep your eye on the ball That’s the key! We are all looking forward to fall When maybe we better hit the little ball. But until then we will continue our quest To always try our very best! Stockton Golf & Country Club Is it just me, or have we had some rather hot weather the past several months? It sure would be more enjoyable if we could catch a break and see some lower temperatures in the weeks ahead With the kids back in school, it’s been a little quiet lately at the club. I’d like to give a shout out to Mariela, Alondra, and Kadi at the pool this summer coordinating the pool activities and the golf staff for the golf camps Well done!

Our premier event, the “Chip in for the Cure” raised over $41,000 for the St Joseph’s Foundation where monies were earmarked for the Lynn Cook Cancer Exercise Program, the COPE program, and the Breast Cancer “Pink” fund The day paid tribute to those of our group who lost their battle to cancer this year: Darlene Kelley and Aggie Mohrmann along with our other “sisters” in heaven, and those who are currently fighting the battle. Huge kudos and thank you to chairwomen Adrienne Hotchkiss, Mary Westin, and our head professional Kelley Spooner for their hard work and planning that made this year’s event so successful The buzz from our guests is that Stockton Ladies really do things “BIG” Susan Filios and Robin Goucher put together (with donations from members and businesses) some beautiful baskets for the raffle The beautiful decorations and centerpieces were the handiwork of the committee that consisted of Judy Seitz, Jenni Buller, Judy Gerry, Toni Murdock, Nora Wager, Linda Vater, and Sharon Benninger. Thank you to all the generous sponsors, volunteers, and donors for their contributions of time and money The highlight of the day was the heartfelt and inspirational speech given by our own Kirsten Carlson who shared her experience with dealing with cancer She is an
