2020 in review. Market summary. What a year 2020 has been. With the property market starting strong in January we started to see some early signs of a recovery from the previous two years of decline as we saw increased enquiry and buyer inspections start to happen. Activity was then halted dramatically in March when COVID-19 restrictions took effect. Australia closed its boarders to nonresidents on the 20th March and social distancing requirements became effective on the 21st March. Consumer confidence was reduced dramatically with uncertainty the driving factor as we saw the economy take a dive and a lot of business start to struggle and our daily way of life changed overnight. No longer could we sit at a cafĂŠ, work out at the gym, attend concerts or even watch a Saturday property auction. Early predictions of the property market were decreases of 30% and some even declared we would see drops of up to 50% in the value of property. Looking now from the end of 2020, we have seen a year on year increase of around 19% for Dundas with the greater Sydney market having increased around 3%. With your house being your castle, and now being more important than ever, we have seen the demand outweigh supply in the suburb which has resulted in such growth this year. Looking into 2021, we look likely to continue to see some kind of sustained growth as demand continues to outweigh supply early in 2021. Buyers who have missed out late in 2020 will continue the search for a new home very early in 2021 as restrictions on travel through the end of year period will keep people nearby and actively looking.
