Both safety and aesthetics are important factors to consider when designing a new fire station and also during renovation projects. Lebourgneuf, a part of the greater Quebec City area, became home to a new fire station facility during the summer, 2008. THE CHALLENGE This brand-new facility had a number of areas, each requiring its own unique flooring solution. The garage, which houses the fire equipment and vehicles, needed an extremely durable flooring system that could withstand heavy, abrasive, wheeled traffic and would also be easy to clean. Since aesthetics are just as important as durability in some areas, it was vital that the office, kitchen, hallways and sleeping quarters were addressed with a strong and decorative solution.

• STONTEC EFC THE STONHARD SOLUTION The Stonhard team recommended 3 separate solutions, Stonclad GS topped with Stonkote GS4 in the garage area, and Stontec EFC in the office, kitchen, sleeping quarters and hallways. Finally, Stonkote GS4 coating was used in the mechanical room and warehouse area. Stonclad GS cures to an extremely hard, impact resistant mortar. This general service epoxy system is ideal for applications requiring superior impact and abrasion resistance and also good chemical resistance. Stontec EFC is a high performance, decorative, seamless system that is also solvent-free. Stonkote GS4 is a two-component, 100% solids, general service, epoxy coating. It is formulated to increase abrasion and chemical resistance while improving cleanability. Together, these systems were able to effectively address all of the needs of this diverse facility.
