NOTES FROM Stonyhurst
From the Playroom Leaders
Dear Parents & Guardians,
With the sun shining and the frost glistening on the ground, Stonyhurst could not look more beautiful as we celebrate Campion Day as a community.
December 1st is the feast day of St Edmund Campion and companions. It has been a day of special celebration at Stonyhurst College, since 1886, when the news of the beatification of the English martyrs arrived during Benediction on December 8th. Campion Day has been celebrated here every year since then. The corridors were filled with joy and laughter from pupils who enjoyed taking part in the various activities for the day
As the end of term approaches the pupils have much to look forward to, as alongside their academic and co-curricular timetable, they prepare for their Christmas parties, enjoy some festive school trips and start to think about packing for their journey’s home around the globe.
On Wednesday 11th December we will be hosting our annual Carol Service to mark the end of term, Stonyhurst families are warmly invited to join us at 15:00 in St Peter’s Church.
With best wishes for a wonderful weekend.
Alice McNeill Senior Deputy Head
At Stonyhurst we take pride in our history and being men and women for others. On Friday we had a lovely time celebrating our faiths and our traditions for Campion Day.
We have celebrated Campion Day every year since 1886. The day began with Mass to honour the heroic sacrifice made by St Edmund Campion, who risked and eventually gave his life, enabling Catholics in this country to practise their faith and participate in Mass.
After lunch the pupils participated in a vibrant colour run and the day concluded with Rhetoric Fair, where money was raised for Jesuit Missions.
