News from Etonbury Academy
Leading up to half term we were delighted to see so many of our students rewarded with praise texts, epraise points and individuals achieving ‘Legends of the week’ in department areas. The children have really positive attitudes to their learning and this is particularly pleasing after so much disruption in the past two years. Our Juniors have been designing the most fantastic gardens for Cala Homes showhome garden competition and we are just awaiting news of the winners. In their designs there was no expense spared with pergolas, water features, bird tables, bee nest boxes and raised beds. We are really looking forward to seeing the winning garden created in time for the opening of their showhome.
Mrs Denton has been leading on LGBTQ+ History Month. Students have been learning more about the history and culture of LGBTQ+ in assemblies and participating in a quiz. Mr Bodger has made the news for supporting the community on the crossing located outside Etonbury to help not just our own students but other members of the community to safely cross for the sports centre and bus stop. A big thank you from all of us at Etonbury for going above and beyond.

During the half term break the school remained open for contractors and our site team to work on further improvements for the school including redecorating our main hall and installing new stage curtains, new lighting and painting toilets across the school. Lessons, clubs and our performance rehearsals have resumed. Year 5 has been looking at computer coding and building an electronic music band, their knowledge of technology at such a young age is quite amazing. We have been delighted by the number of students enrolled for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme , you may have seen some of them volunteering in the community and developing their chosen skills.
Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine, and we have been joining the local communities by collecting much needed items for The NEED Project who are so kindly co-ordinating the transport to get these to Poland. Our DT department has also been raising funds by making beautiful sunflower earrings and selling them in support of this crisis.
