News from St Mary’s Academy
February has been an eventful month where we have all learnt more about IT use and E-Safety on our Safer Internet Day held on Tuesday 8th February. We also celebrated awareness of Children’s Mental Health Week by wearing a SCARF (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship) to school on Friday 11th.
We will be sharing ideas once again this year to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. The children will be invited to come into school in non-uniform with their favourite book. They can even dress as their favourite book character if they would like!

Our parent’s association, the SMSA are also hoping to organise a sponsored read with prizes! This is something we really look forward to and every child will receive a free £1.00 World Book Day Voucher.
We have the first of our class assemblies by Opal Class on Friday 4th March. Diamond Class will follow on Friday 11th with Moonstone, Emerald and Crystal holding theirs on Wednesday 23rd, Friday 25th and Wednesday 30th respectively. Hopefully parents and carers of children in these classes will be allowed in to watch and enjoy the performances, if not we will video and share through Dojo.
Class photographs are planned for Tuesday 8th March and Parent/Teacher Consultations are planned for the week commencing Monday 14th March.
We will once again be supporting Red Nose Day on Friday 18th March and are inviting our children to come in non-uniform clothes. We are sure we will find something fun to do on the day to raise money for this very worthwhile cause. Please look out for our donations page!
On Wednesday 23rd March our Year 3 children will take part in a Faith Tour to Bedford. Here the community works together to enable the children to visit a Church, Gudwara and Mosque. The children always come back in awe of their day.
The holidays will then be upon us as we break up on Friday 1st April for the Easter break. We will return for the Summer Term on Tuesday 19th April.
St Mary’s CE Academy has a memory garden at the front of the building which is used by pupils and staff at times of prayer, remembrance and reflection. We are desperately in need of a green-fingered volunteer to help look after this area.
Please contact the Academy if you are interested in helping to make this garden beautiful again!
